No more camera shots from me ...

I LOVE the new camera it's truly amazing, the default bindings could be better, but do some tweaking and you can create some amazing stuff

I haven't had time to clip all the videos together but they're amazing!!

I'm slowly getting the hang of it, having tried various combinations of stick, keyboard and mouse bindings. I'm leaning towards total keyboard but learning to love it...

I'm not a fan. Lot of key binding and i haven't refound yet my "old habit".
It's probably a good camera suite for good and creative user/filmaker, but for my lazy ... I prefer something simple.

Why can we've both ? The "debug camera" was good for me (and other). The "camera suit" is probably awesome in pro hands... But why delete something that work ? We've billions of controls in elite, we can have another set for the old debug cam'...

And the new camera suit is... dangerous *obvious pun*
Even in "Free camera", my piloting keys do things. Like deploying heatsink. Or throttle up into a sun (i haven't mapped "go forward camera" on the same key. Now it's done).

But you can just set it exactly the same as the debug camera, it can work exactly the same if you set it too!!!!!! reset your controls to default if your having issues they're not that bad from the off

I think this new camera suite can be very powerful. But it is also very complex and clumsy. I need several clicks/buttons to achieve even the most simple tasks.

...why are people surprised though? Mind you, we scan an astronomical body and then need several clicks + system map to see details about what we just scanned. We need to look sideways and go to sub-sub-menus to see what objects/ships are present nearby.
And all that time 1/4 of ship's cockpit shows amazingly useful info like:

NONE
UNKNOWN
NONE
NONE

[blah]

Unfortunately usability is very low in the priorities list of the team responsible for interface :(

You can simply bind a control for free vamera use and then set it up for the same controls as before - i.e. access the same fuctionality with 2 commands.
The previous system was very-very basic and most images had unpleasant distortions at the side, resulting in egg planets and stuff.

Yes, it looks intimidating, but the upgrade was sorely needed. Best additional exploration tool since... ever. :)

It would help a lot if they included something like little images showing what each camera control does. Small arrows shoing the dirtection or movement of the camera. Or at least include some bloody defaults, so that one can understand what the camera is supposed to do!

I am at a total loss at the pitch/yaw/XYZ axis/yaddayadda terminology and I have no idea what each of those is supposed to be. Last time I tried to wrap my non-native English brain around the meaning of the controls I got a headache. Yes, a headache. I literally had to stop playing for the evening.[sad]

But ... there is default settings you just need to restore to default, if you have custom settings fd are going to find it hard to set them for you ;)

I switched to the camera mode and most of the functions are unnbound. Yes, my HOTAS bindings are custom, are you saying that I can choose to either rebind all flight/SRV controls again (probably spending an hour at it) and rebind the camera too (spending more time at that) or simply not be able to use the camera?

If so, I currently feel like I won't ever be able to do external screenshots ever again then.

No don't be so negative Jesus, some friendly commander could screenshot the default settings for you and it would take you 5 minutes to put them in if you didn't want to reset everything, I'm on Xbox otherwise I would do the above for you! But that said if you want Xbox screenshots of controller settings I'm happy to help

I reset all my settings back to default then spent 20mins max reconfiguring my preferences ( I wrote them down with a pen and paper!)

I don't know it seams a lot of impatient folk around would rather moan and bLow things out of proportion than ask for help, hopefully someone will help you out with PC screenshot settings and you can enjoy the new camera

Good luck CMDR

I am not trying to be negative just for the sake of it.

I didn't joke about the headache. I meant it. I don't know if it is the language barrier, but I am really at a total loss at the controls terminology and I seem to understand the meanings wrong or not at all.

I think you are getting a bit over the top here. Yes, clearly some people have found settings that work - some, like me, haven't; not without trying.
The camera just flies off and I can't control it!
Yes, we are used to FD not giving us any instructions, but to expect a complete re-set of all the commands in order to use the camera seems a bit cruel.
Yes, they can't set defaults when they could conflict with our custom settings, so why not leave the 'old' camera available for a while?
It seems I already have to turn down my resolution in order to work around the GalMap bug, so yes we are feeling a bit negative :)

ROLL was added for MOUSE in Beta 4 and it worked but then they INVERTED ROLL (put a spanner in the works before holidays) in Beta 5 and ruined it. Also you can not get MOUSE ROLL at all inside the cockpit. They ruined what already was working. Too many chefs or a traitor in camp!

For Zoom and DOF to function you need a toggle between them plus set BLUR=ON and DOF=ON in graphics settings.

The new camera takes getting used to for certain. I’ve got mine all configured and now that I’m more used to it I like it much, much better than the old debug cam. I’m not entirely happy with my control setup though, and I might play around with that. I’m actually considering using my Xbox pad just for camera control, but I also kind of like using the HOTAS too, as currently I can quickly switch between camera and ship control which is very nice.

I still keep trying to clear the fracking “are you sure?” window from the old camera though, LOL!!!!

It takes some time to get used to, and yeah, setting it up is some work. (Just be glad you've been spared the 'throttle full range/forward only' debacle it had in the early beta, that was a pain.)

I had an old X-Box controller lying around and bound the camera controls to it. (Gives a nice 'flying a camera drone' feeling.) I promise, once you've set it up properly, it's worth it. It really helps appreciating Elite's scale and beauty.

I like that we have the new camera suite, but I'm not a huge fan of the overly convoluted control method for it. There's a bunch of stuff I wish wasn't even in there (like the zoom blur thing which I find useless and annoying, having had to bind keys just so I can kill the useless blur each time I zoom). I'm starting to think a simpler method for making use of the new holo me feature and checking out our bridges would have been to just let us get up from the chair and walk around the bridge. I mean that's what we're in effect doing with the new camera suite, just in fairly complicated way.

I tried getting someone to screenshot for me, pity they weren't using the exact same controller I have because what they posted made zero sense for my controller. Look I land a lot to take pictures of features, most of the times it's pretty simple shots for informational purposes.

In the old setup it was ctrl/alt/space, move forward and down, take screenshot, job done.

What happens now? I press control/alt/space, H to remove hud, C for free camera, it drop straight through the planets surface. I now have to wrestle with the controls to get it the right height, I have to press the key to slow it down otherwise it jerks all over the place, then the landscape is treacle creeping across the screen for a few minutes because I don't dare speed it up in case I lose it again. Then I screenshot, in a hurry because it' s already creeping away from the position I put it in.

Finally I exit the camera, phew.

Yes I get that a lot of people wanted a new camera because the old one sucked for cinematics, it's great that we have one, I don't do cinematics, I want quick simple screenshots, and I am not going to spend four hours working on the camera settings to still have something that sucks for my purpose. I said at the time in beta they needed a simple camera for people who want basic camera usage and an advanced camera for the creative people who want to do stuff. I don't enjoy playing with the camera now, I hate it, and that's not a good outcome. They could have done it easily, it appears the camera now has more binding than the entire set of controls for running your ship!

I had to set the deadzones to get rid of the 'camera floating away' problem.

And still have to tweak around with the settings.
But although I also most time just do snapshots I like this new feature a lot, even dedicated a roundtrip to this new camera suite (and to my new orca) :D

Ntl, one of the preset cameras should be "same view as Cockpit view without the Cockpit" for a simple screeny :)

Part of the difficulty for you (as a non-native English speaker) might be the fact that the wording for the controls in the Options does not match the wording in the Camera Suite's UI in a number of cases. I had to go back into the Options a number of times because of this, and I am a native English speaker, so I can only imagine the difficulties this might cause for someone who isn't.

My only issue with the new camera is that fact that I have so far failed to set it up so that I can easily pan around the ship using the damned mouse - I had to revert to using the ship flight controls on my HOTAS (like I did with the old camera) to be able to use it in a way that works for me. I am hoping the issue is me, rather than HOTAS = no easy mousing around the ship. In any case, this camera moves significantly faster than the old one, so I can roll with the current setup, and get the shots that I want.

I have the same feeling you have and then, I am not even sure if... I can make the same kind of screenies I used to make. Let's make a few examples:

Here is one picture of an earth-like pre 2.3:

I even wonder if I can still make the same kind of picture. I kinda tried on a different kind of planet. Perhaps I should try some more but yeah it didn't quiet work out.

Then here is an ammonia pre 2.3 which is in the same kind of position for the next one which is post 2.3:

And yeah, here is the one post 2.3.. egg like ammonia much?!:

I am sure I am doing things "wrong" but really.... I have to discover what the benefits are.
