You are missing the point. Go ahead name your ship Stalin's Gulag or whatever fine. I even find it funny myself. But someone actually trying to make a real name for their ship should not get censored because 3 letters look naughty together. Nothing should be censored. Except for blatant isolated profanity.
But if you are going to play this censorship game play it right. As it stands this is just another form of Dark Souls 2 "Knight" debacle. And just like in that game all it takes is a clever swap of letters. "N"word becomes spelled with Qs. The ,3 letter word for buttocks can be spelled with as AZZ. And people who just want to name themselves "Knight whatever" or in this case "Assault or Pass" get punished unjustly while the trolls skip free.

Played some dark souls back at the start, but didn't get along with it. Still, I do agree that filters that work on letter strings alone are bad.
For instance... a 5 letter word b___h (do we mean a female of the genus canis canis, or are we peeved that a young lady just bested us)
or a 5 letter word starting with N and ending in r... are we being racist, or referring to a river in Nigeria?

We need some intelligence behind it too.a human would take a fraction of a microsecond to realise
A half decent current AI could do it...
but the kind of filter we use here assumes the worst, and then punishes those who maybe want the USS Sc___horpe etc.

I beg to differ; people need to stop being so bloody precious about total inconsequentialities. Whatever happened to "sticks and stones may break my bones...". Swear filters are for the mentally inadequate, frankly; easily circumvented if you're the kind who wishes to offend, and otherwise pointless.

I know what happens, the swear filter is totally bloody mindless, and you have easily circumvented it. I find it interesting that of localish placenames S c u n thorpe requires idiocy, yet Wetwang and Penistone do not; lunacy.

They are investigating the filter issues as some of what they are looking to censor is not getting censored. Just put in a ticket to get yours taken care of

Tbh i like the games were you can choose to switch off the profanity filter. I understand some are easily offended or might have kids, hence the need for one. However, I personally fine them irritating, on several points.

It's condisending, aww dont worry about the bad words we'll protect you. A company moralising about language when we can kill and sell slaves. The fact language changes so much not just overtime but between contries even with the same primary language eg us english and uk english has quite a few I can think of off the top of my head.

Anyway at least it sounds like they will take a look at it and hopefully long term add some common sense or a whitelist for words that are innocent but contain banned words, like a Assault or should that be ***ault.

It initially censored the Hell in my ship names. I sent in a ticket because it was patch day in the beta I first saw it. Support told me they had no problem with my ship names and if it was censored still in live let them know. It was and I let them know. They fixed it manually for me and said they hope to have the problem fixed for others soon as they are investigating the problem. They told me to send screenshot of the censor issues (either names that should be censored or ones wrongly censored) to help them in determining the issue.
