Ship Name Profanity Filter is Too Strict?

I beg to differ; people need to stop being so bloody precious about total inconsequentialities. Whatever happened to "sticks and stones may break my bones...". Swear filters are for the mentally inadequate, frankly; easily circumvented if you're the kind who wishes to offend, and otherwise pointless.

I don't quite get this argument. I mean ED has a PEGI 7 rating.

Some parents simply don't want their kids being exposed to it, and that is nothing to do with being mentally inadequate.

Some folk would say adding a swear word to a ship name is mentally inadequate.

Who is the most mentally inadequate!

And why is that?

But they're totally fine with random murder, slave trafficking and drug running. Ok, whatever.

This PC just stinks...
Sweden where I live, normally takes the prize, but this is insanity. Killing people on tv and utubes of beheadings are ok , but a pair of female upper parts gets everybody upset. Victorianism in 2017, and she was not even a prude, See that what Brexit got you, slow drifting towards the United States of Ignorance and Superstition.
Soon UK will be arming kids also, but no beer and female upper parts...
I wonder if my ship names will go through, I cant see anything "dirty" in them...

Cheers Cmdr's

Cant even write that!! ha! Here is latin:2 x Mamma :D

thats how it is with PC games nowdays... errrrrr :)

My IMO probably not-obscenely named Imperial Cutter, the CNV EMBASSY, appears on other player's UIs as the "CNVEMB***Y"..

I guess it thought I was referring to bottoms, and not to diplomatic things. Sigh.

Any chance FD of toning down the swear filter there? It's also truncating the space between "CNV" and "Embassy" parts of the name, which is annoying.

Cheers

Update 2:

I got a response to my Support Ticket, and "" is apparently not on the profanity list, so this shouldn't be happening. It's been passed up to the devs. I guess if anyone else has this issue you should log a support ticket too :)

have u tried spell it embarsy? :)

What? Oh wait, you`re one of those people who believes that words cause harm to people, but showing violence, murder, slave trafficking has no effect?

Very selective logic there.

Eh?

If it's not clear, I am saying some parents don't want their kids exposed to it.

You can tell that's what I mean because if you read back you'll see I said :

"Some parents simply don't want their kids being exposed to it"

Right here : https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showt...s-Too-Strict?p=5379711&viewfull=1#post5379711

Where is the break in logic?

Does anyone know why they went for PEGI 7 in the first place? The different ratings are 3,7,12,16 & 18.

Was it a case of the rating they were given at the time of rating was based on current content, and then were stuck with it? Could you even request higher ratings if you wanted.

+ According to the PEGI website elite received it's rating because of "It contains: Violence that is not shown but is implied". So no problems with drugs or slavery..

Fear of profanities is based on nothing but the imagination.

Where's the fear? I think you're reading a bit too deeply into this.

As I say, some parents don't want their kids exposed to it.

Which if you're a parent, is fair enough.

I am arguing against the silly point the grown up made earlier that...

"Swear filters are for the mentally inadequate"

all jokes aside, i can fully understand the reason to have silly filters... however... how about a user setting for such filters, ranging from none at all to strong
i can take a few not PC, harsh, profane even hateful words...
im personally imune enough to profanity etc that i take much bigger offence from censorship, and i really dont like to be told what i can read or see and what not (note this is NOT a complaint on FD, if u think so u really dont get it :) )

What makes a parent want to "shield" a kid from "bad words"?

Not sure what point you are trying to slowly work your way to, but parents have a responsibility.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with not wanting your kid being exposed to profanities and offensive words.
