How did you guys do it?

I'm in the midst of this, started from Ensign as well and have just one rank mission to do. At ensign you get around 15% - 20% for each 20 data drops so ranking is quite easy. At my current rank its around 5% per 20 drops so im going to need to do 200 missions more.

Its been dull in the later stages and its all ive done for a week which is terrible gameplay because it prevents players playing how they want. The system needs an overhaul completely, theres no difficulty to it at all, just vast, dull repetition. I'm fine with the longevity of it, just not the current method of achieving it.

I'm not that bothered about getting a usable corvette out of at the end either, but like Engineers (also now out of the way) I just want it finished. Its testament to how much I love the game of Elite that I'm still bothering with it because the last 10-15 weeks of gameplay have been the least enjoyable I've had since it began. I'm just glad its nearly over!

To answer your question though, there is no simple way, its very easy to do but you just need to accept that you need to stop what you enjoy and throw time at it. Doing it parts whilst you play the game will take years, just get on with it and get it over.

I want a corvette. I am currently an Ensign and it is taking ages to get a little bit of progress in the ranks.

So am I missing like a trick on how to rank up faster? Because it took me 2 days to just get a 15% increase. Or is Ensign a particularity harder rank to progress through?

Any tips on good ways to rank up would be appreciated because this mission farming is getting tedious and ridiculous.

we took advantage of clever gameplay mechanics.

There is that also^

Which was massacre mission stacking and it left you with over 1bn credits to boot. That door is closed now though after 2.3, you can only stack 3 afaik

To add. There seems to be currently something amiss with the mission server that is stopping it generating missions. 90% of stations and bases that I land at have completely empty mission boards, regardless of the system state they are in. Its been raised in the bug section but currently all you can do is re-log repeatedly until it populates properly.

No you don't. You are just confused. What you actually want is a Beluga.

Did you know the Beluga is in the top 1% of passenger ships out there?

Haha, nice one!

Thanks to all who responded and gave advice. i already have more than enough credits so thats not a problem. but ill be looking into some methods you guys mentioned. thanks!

Everyone does to some degree I think. Call it a test of character, or playing your own way, but when you have a big target to reach like this it's natural to try to optimise your approach, and tempting to let your personal morals (how you play games) slide.

I did my ranking up before the progress sliders came in so it was more difficult to know what actions had the most efficient effect, I also prefer to discover things for myself in-game rather than watching training videos, so I missed some tricks but used others that are probably considered exploits (or 'clever' as you describe) by others.

I suppose as long as you enjoy yourself it doesn't really matter what other people think :)

Simple, like many online games they followed a well recognised path.

Find out a loop hole/glitch where it's super easy, but is blatantly not intended

Do it asap, as much as possible

Get silly amount of cash or rank (what ever goal was)

Whine on forum until it's removed

Post about how silly it is for new pilots to get stuff fast and how all forms of income need nerfing.

Bonus points

Get blown up and whine that its now too hard to get cash and how you earned 1bil in a week before nerfs.

After doing the above in a week, spam threads with "game lacks content"

Give it a week or two and new loop hole cash cow, or rank will pop up.

Try not to farm, the Corvette is a good ship but if you just rush to get it you're kind of missing the point of the game.

Play your own way & all that but try to enjoy the journey, and think about what you want to be able to do with the Corvette. You can probably do that in other ships too, & have fun doing the thing you like while working your way towards your goal.

You'll need the cash to buy & outfit it once you unlock it too of course. Budget around a billion including enough to cover rebuys.

There is no "Point" to the game. PLay however you wanna play. If he wants to focous work for the Corvette, thats his goal.
Even grinding rep is a journey. It certainly felt like it for me.

Anyway - did I stop playing after I got the Vette? 7 weeks play time( over 2 years in real life) says no o7

This just seems like another one of those situations where the respondent didn't read beyond the first line.

If we're going to play handbags at dawn I'm currently 35,000ly away from the bubble in a Corvette. It is a versatile ship ;)

Its more like a situation were saying one thing and following it up with a sentence doesnt negate the first thing you said.

On one hand he said DONT do this. Youl miss the point of the game.

Then says - play how you wanna play?

I call B.S on this type of lingo. Like calling someone fat and saying - Just Kididng afterwards.

Well I only have 5% left to do, managed to complete a rank per day in the later stages, not played today as we've been at friends for easter. Will complete tomorrow and wave the Feds goodbye forever.

I donated a shed load of credits for the final rank. The rest is where I got through playing over the last two years (with some grind close to the particular ship unlocks)

My post is there for all to read, no need for you to interpret it, just read it & agree or disagree :)

Elite is more about how you achieve a goal than actually achieving it, because the journey can be so long. The Corvette is a good ship (one of my favourites) but not so good that all else should be put aside to obtain it. Do you agree?

No. I dont agree. And heres why -

I had immense fun grinding rep for the corvette..and when i finally got it.. i continued to play the game.

I LIKED logging in and chipping away..inch by inch. And when i did get it, i felt fantastic.

I would never be so arrogant as to say how someone else should play the game.

I donated and aweful lot of cash to the federation...

I think they've reduced the amount of credits you could donate - I don't know if the respective rep is reduced too. I remember giving lots of 4,000,000 CR donations before, haven't seen anything like that recently.

So we agree then, that's great ;)

This is so gloriously accurate... [big grin]

I just played the game, and took fed missions if I could course, donated whenever possible, no mode switching. Took a while, was somewhere middle ranked when 2.0 dropped and then a few months ... since I didn't really focus on just this one thing it's hard to tell, didn't feel to bad though and I was proud when I made it.

There are few imperial factions close to where I operate from, and I don't want to disturb our BGS plans, so not very high in the Empire.
