Prey - out 05 may.

https://prey.bethesda.net/

Anyone else here massively looking forward to this one??

It's by Arkane, makers of the recent dishonored series amongst a whole lot else. Game was originally being made by Human Head studios but they done fubared it up and Bethesda gave it to Arkane who completely reimagined the thing. The game is set aboard an orbiting space station which houses the research into the alien life called the "typhon" - a malevolent shape changing alien life form.

Naturally things go wrong and you are placed into the position of figuring out what it's all about and trying to escape. All the while using standard methods to achieve your aims or using alien powers or combinations of both.

I get massive system shock vibe from this along with a healthy dose of bioshock and dead space.

Looks great...pre ordered.

The videos alone says yes. Dishonored is a good enough resume to make games by Arkane an instant buy. I will definitely get it and enjoy it, whether it turns into a moviegame or a real challenge. I could use a break from my second run through ME4.. ;)

Looks good, thanks for the heads up.

No problem. It's a bit of shameless plugging but I really like Arkane as a developer I think they try hard to break a few of the generic tropes in gaming. Plus they put a lot of effort into nice stuff like voice acting. Dishonored 2 wasn't a massive seller for them for some reason. It was a really good game and this game I think deserves some shameless plugging :)

I do look forward to this game very much.
First I was skeptical after it got canceled and rebooted as an entirely different game.
Then I heard it was Arkane Studios making it.
These people are so talented.
I am in love with their Dishonored universe and the very strong gameplay they designed for it.
I hope they will release new Dishonored games until the sun dies. I will buy them all.

Nothing whatsoever. Completely new IP.

Annoyingly I can't play it on release I'm out of the country for a few weeks the day it releases.

Yeah I think this could be one of this year's surprise gems. IF they get the setting and atmosphere right and it isn't a mess on PC it could be stunning.

Mac from Worth A Buy discusses what it might... be.

Well it seems that any worries about poor pc performance have been quashed. Fair number of sites at this early stage are reporting no problems at all with frame rates topping out above 100 on higher spec machines and 60 plus on lower specs.

They are using cryengine so I suppose its to be expected that its running fine as its a well established engine unlike the in house Void engine which caused dishonoured 2 launch problems.

I watch Mac for entertainment, but I don't actually care about his opinion on most reviews. He often can't see past his very limited understanding of what a good game is.

Played the first 2 hours or so. Have to be up in 4....oops.

My system is running this at stable 60fps all max settings. It's not the prettiest game ever made but its still a looker.

The setting is very much like system shock bioshock as reported. Map design and atmosphere are top notch. The story has totally hooked me I'm gathering a few side missions also that I haven't looked into just yet but the introduction to them has me dithering about coming off the main for a bit to develop them. A good thing.

Neuromod system seems a fairly typical way of giving you abilities and improving on them. There are a lot of options here for this and I'd imagine a bit of specialisation might be required as I'd think it will be hard to max out.

Combat feels a little clunky and in a small way reminds me of how it might have felt in system shock series. It's fine though and I suspect that combat can be avoided by using stealthy options if you wish. Melee you start off with and gradually you'll find better ballistic weapons which can be upgraded also by finding kits lying about normally behind areas that require a bit of thought to puzzle out.

Speaking of which there is plenty of puzzling out and exploration is rewarded. The videos of using the GLOO gun to get to hard to reach places has helped. Basically you can make stairs out the stuff by firing up a wall at an angle.

Very very impressed so far overall after a few hours. The voice acting is top drawer so far complemented by solid writing.

It's a buy from me.

CryEngine is famous among console owners for the bad performance. PC does seem to handle things better.
There's a demo on PS Store but I didn't try it out.

It's drawing inspiration from a few big FPS releases but then many games do this. The important part is that this game is implementing those inspirations excellently.

I've played about 5 hours so far not much because of real life stuff. But I can say it's one of the best games I've played in recent years probably longer.
