THE FORMIDINE RIFT MYSTERY (Part 4)

That's not bad, actually.
Thanks :)

0. ZERO.

So what I'm attempting now is to see any connections between one answer and the next, using only Greek mythology.

For example;

For the sake of the example lets say the first answer is ACHERON. The river that led to the underworld and the gods name as well.

Next answer if we say is DEMETER connects to the first by "Demeter and the rap[e] of Persephone (APOLLODORUS)" -

"When Zeus commanded Plouton to send Kore [Persephone] back up, Plouton gave her a pomegranate seed to eat, as assurance that she would not remain long with her mother. With no foreknowledge of the outcome of her act, she consumed it. Askalaphos, the son of Akheron and Gorgyra, bore witness against her, in punishment for which Demeter pinned him down with a heavy rock in Hades' realm."
Not sure if it is in fact the way to go but I figure doesn't hurt to try.

I'm not sure I understand why the answer to "Gaia's daughter all unfurled" would be Demeter. Isn't Demeter Gaia's granddaughter?

Ah that is true, so cant be that. Gaia had many daughters though, I think the "unfurled" will narrow it down.

Edit:
ANANKE?

"In the Orphic cosmogony she emerged self-formed at the dawn of creation--an incorporeal, serpentine being whose outstretched arms encompassed the breadth of the cosmos."

Ananke's name means "contraint" ... the opposite of unfurled. Hmm...

Wikipedia has a list of children of Gaia. Have to search them for gender. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gaia_(mythology)#Children

She certainly got around.

WRT Suckling Odysseus from afar

Eurycleia was Odysseus's wet nurse. (According to my wife, I suck at mythology).

Also Eurycleia means "broad fame" and Anticleia means "anti fame", probably not relevant, but interesting.

Also Thetis is not Odysseus's mother, apparently.

Excellent work, fits well -

The individuals were Klotho (Clotho), the "the Spinner," who spun the thread of life (A COURSE TO FOLLOW), Lakhesis (Lachesis), "the Apportioner of Lots", who measured it (POOR MISERS SUM), and Atropos (or Aisa), "She who cannot be turned," who cut it short (A FINAL WORD).

I'm reading through the entire thread and am only on page 247 but something stuck out to me around these pages... someone mentioned that pristine rings were rare. As if... the system was depleted.

Tin foil:
The rift itself is a graveyard. An ancient bubble of another civilization. Possibly a type 2.5 civilization... using their stars as weapons- would explain the lack of stars. A civilization that advanced would hypothetically have the capacity to hyperdict- but I don't believe they're the flower ships. I think it may be as simple as a civilization that just doesn't like us roaming around their "burial grounds" planting beacons. Furthermore, I don't think the Rift mystery has anything to do with the FSD research or Exodus. My guess is Sirius just proposed three areas where they surveyed higher concentrations of ELW's/Terraformables, and I bet they simply routed and destroyed the ships that survived to be saved from paying up. As for the rift... we know that story.

I still have a 100 pages to read so I might have missed valuable information but I couldn't wait to share my thoughts. Love these types of threads when I'm exploring. Keeps it intriguing. Thanks for all the hard work you guys have done to drive the story. Drew and FD should thank you too. You're writing the story for them in some ways.

Looking through, may be safe to say that all the answers are related to Greek mythology, each giving a name? The answers that I can tell are definitely correct all fit this category so far.

Some of these are not as straight forward as others. For instance, "The vain queen rides not forth". Yes, the vain queen is Cassiopeia but that is only part of the clue. What does it mean by her not riding forth? There was the older clue that included Cassiopeia: "The vain queen rides a giraffe that remembers her daughter's hero".

Two references to Cassiopeia riding (or in this new clue explicitly NOT riding) something. Neither clue 100% clear as to it's meaning.

Yes I agree. Another one that's difficult is "Fourth minor bear in vain". I get the fourth minor bear part but what does "in vain" mean here?

Edit: Oh how about "The vain queen rides not forth" to save her kingdom?

Edit: Or maybe its Perseus that rode forth on Pegasus to save the vain queens daughter?

Or Cassiopeia constellation is her tied to a chair, so maybe something with that?

:/ none of that really feels right, I need to think about it some more.

"Cepheus and Cassiopeia consulted a wise oracle, who told them that the only way to appease the sea gods was to sacrifice their daughter.

Accordingly, Andromeda was chained to a rock at the sea's edge and left there to helplessly await her fate at the hands of the sea monster Cetus."

Yes, it could be a reference to Andromeda receiving punishment in her mother's stead.

Just a thought over breakfast, before coffee kicks in. The formula from the trailer clue seems to suggest the original Elite procedural generation algorithm, so perhaps this might be a placename list, with the final word DESTINATION? "Addition is the miser's sum of happines" appears to be an american proverb, perhaps implying add them all together to get a route to follow?

"Fourth minor bear in vain" could be referred to Atlas. He had three brothers and after his rebellion against Zeus and the olympians was condemned to hold up the sky in his shoulders to keep sky and Earth separated from trying to resume their embrace. After this he was named Atlas Telamon, "enduring Atlas". He was also a second generation, i. e. a minor Titan.

If this is a list of systems to be followed like a map ... then maybe that last line about Fibonacci’s Zephyrum is the compass. Instead of starting from the top of the list ... we work our way backward starting at Morai, which is a system in Elite: Dangerous. Remember the CG last August with the payouts in the 100s of millions of credits? That was Morai.

A lot of these names are also systems or planets that can be found in the Galaxy.

I like the idea, but I wonder how we are to know if we are on the right track? What is at the start point to indicate we need to follow the path, and then what's stopping us just from cutting right to the end? Could be something like local new articles or persistent POI, but if we are required to stop at each place there has to be something there to acknowledge our presence.

Could it be that this will be the route the chase on the 29th will follow? Maybe there isn't anything to find there yet, but working out the path can help plan for hunting/protecting Salomé and co. when the time comes?
