How Long Have You Been In The Black?

Hi Fellow Cmdrs.

Looking back through my logs I see I left space dock back on the 21st of Feb last year and haven't landed on/in space dock since. Have been out mapping complete systems ever since! have landed on the odd planet to have a look around but other than that, nada, nothing, haven't seen a living soul since. So far have visited/completely mapped a 'shed-load' of systems, all pristine!

Hull is down to 84%, 2 really silly mistakes took me to that point:

1) Found myself as a filling in a binary-sun system when I jumped-in. By the time I figured-out which way was out I'd lost 6%

2) In the words of Duck Dodgers' "Oops, had the silly thing in reverse!" By the time I worked-out why my ship was playing Pogo Sticks when I tried to lift off, I'd lost another 10% hull

Question, is there anyone out there been out as long/longer?

Clear Skies

I believe CMDR Tootiny (posts as Osser) is 70 days out from the bubble after an eighteen month trip!

I lasted a week before suiciding just under half way to Colonia!

And here I thought my 7 weeks out in the inky darkness was a long time. Thinking of heading back out. Would love to look you up Cmdr Mograt.

My longest journey was 4 months and covered a distance of 74.000 ly, while playing on a daily basis. Went to the core and then took a large curve back to the bubble, scanning everything that came before my scanner... i was promoted from Aimless to Pioneer in simply one go, as it was my first big exploration tour. I plan to go further out, once 2.4 or 3.0 hits, because my guess is, that we will see much more types of different worlds and encounters then, that i dont want to miss. Until then, i will undertake a few 25kly tours or so.

So far longest was a month trip to 7k lys, not very far out but did over 600 jumps. Of course I was only looking for first discoveries. Been logging all of mine and someday may get to a million. The first 100k are the hardest since I haven't achieved that yet, still have 78k to go for that, but someday. Gonna do a long trip soon. Got bout 200 systems that I am revisiting because I didn't scan them fully the first time, once that's done I can really go deep exploring. Been out on several trips and I have been fortunate not to damage the ship or overheat in a sun. I take an AFM with me for emergencies, but rarely use it, just need it now to fix the FSD from neutron overcharges. Got the Orca out, since the update made it a viable exploring ship now, went from a 22 ly jump range to 37lys overnight, and it is combat fitted, so it has shields and guns. Could take those off and the pass cabin, probably be in the 40+ ly range, but am happy with 37, that way can hopefully fight off any aliens that might wanna probe me. Also with dirty drives, the Orca boost 575, good for a fast getaway or outrun a scan, you know those stupid passengers still get hemrrhoids if you get scanned. Can only stay out 4 weeks this trip, that's the time limit the passenger gave me, but I get the last laugh, I already completed his mission in 1 day, now he gets to tag along while I use up the last of the time limit exploring whatever I want.

iain666 has been out 18 month: https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php/331688-Closing-the-circle ... and returned!

my longest trip personally has been 3 1/2 month or something :)

moving to exploration subforum

Kicking around the edge of the bubble at the moment, I don't look for stations to land, if they are there I may or may not decide to land, but as far as seeking out a station, I just don't really bother. If I die and select rebuy I have really no idea where I will end up, I think that sums up an explorer more than anything else!

Left the bubble back in October heading for Colonia them SagA.

After Colonia, I took a "quick" detour to Beagle Point, and have just started heading back to SagA.

So that's 7 months ago far, and probably another 5 till I get back to the bubble.

I've seen / met up with only 2 CMDRs in that time, so getting back will seem very crowded / scary :S

35 days until I land which will put me at exactly 18 months. I left the bubble Nov 21st 2015 (3301)
I have a thread that I update every 2 weeks called "Coming Home"
It's been fun.
I just wish the bad dreams would stop...

557 days in the end, now running round the bubble. Got my Imperial rank up to Baron (I wanted a Clipper) and now I'm unlocking all the engineers. Then I'll be seeing how much range I can get on the Clipper and be off to the core for at least several months...
Ooh, a fellow Clipper explorer! Excellent choice. Let me know the end result, will you? Good luck with the rn engineers!

As for my longest trip: I'm not even sure. I don't think I've ever been out longer than three months. There has always been something in the bubble that drew me back there - and a couple of weeks later, there has always been something in the black that drew me back.

My longest trip so far was the Distant Worlds Expedition, where I was out in the black for seven months. I took the long way home from Beagle Point, flying out and exploring the Abyssal Plains to their edge and then fighting my way into the New Outer Arm through very sparse star density. After the Silly Ships II Expedition I'll probably head out again for an extended trip.

Flying happy

I did a year from December 23rd 2015 to December 23rd 2016 and detailed my journey in this thread with some nice screenshots along the way.

I loved how beat-up my ship looked after I got back but have since upgraded with the Asp kit - it looked daft after that as the wear didn't extend to the new parts and the support team couldn't fix it so it's all shiny and new again now :)

Pretty much since I paid off my student overdraft!

Never went past Colonia, but have been out that way a few times.
