Wow – Rebecca. Should have seen that – next one Weston?

Huge reps to everyone who figured out the message, I was working on it, but frankly couldn’t keep up (even enlisted the help of one of my smaller hedgehogs who’s really into the Greek legends).
Anyhoo – just wanted to make sure the facts were really clear.

The forum post clue points to one location (and apparently, we’ve all missed a bunch of galnet clues here)
The video clue points to another location. And they are different.

Things I still can’t fathom. Why clue 29c – how many other clues did we miss? The Galnet clue only has 21…

I agree with a bunch of stuff already alluded to: Salome has not always demonstrated the greatest decision making, but I ask all those doubters this… Seriously would you really throw your lot in with Petraeus, Aisling or Hudson (who let’s face it either had Halsey murdered or conveniently looked the other way). All I’m saying is this: Salome has made mistakes, but she’s motivated and moving in the right direction. Do we really think leaving it to the status quo is benefiting anyone? I'm only a relative newcomer to the Rift mystery, but does this clarify what was in the Rift to find? Ship log 3/4 makes it sound like they had already started prepping terraformable worlds. Since the megaship itself would only have been added in the latest update, are the worlds what was findable in the Rift before now? Terraforming candidates showing something extra in their description?

So maybe I've had this the wrong way around all along.... This isn't a race TO somewhere, this is a guarding missing FROM Syreadiae JX-F c0. At least I hope so, there's no way I can get even my explorer ASP out there in the next 11 days...

The letters that forms "Rebecca" were just interleaved within the SRYERBEEACDCIAAEJXFC0 string, as in, letter 2,4,6,8,10,12 and 14. When we extracted them all we were left with just the system name.
In essence we didn't really looked up to the clues to be led toward "ho, there's a relationship with Rebecca there", it just ... popped out

To clear things out, nothing in the clues really made us think of Rebecca as such. Sajime happened to play a bit with the string, trying anagrams and whatnot until Lyrae pointed out that not only "Rebecca" could be read within the string with what Sajime had ended up with, but also that the interleaving to get it was exactly every two letters.

Following that we stayed stuck for nearly one day because for some reason we were cutting the string out in separate chunks, as shown below :

In the end I tried to recombine the entire string as one while still keeping the "Rebecca" part filtered out, and then pinged the galmap with SYREA, SYREADI, SYREADIA, and finally SYREADIAE, which pinged. As you can see in the above screenshot we also had a few letters wrong or misnoted, and even flipped in the wrong order, but after some poking over different iterations, Jackie Silver got it right.

It was dangerous from us to stick with this theory since we had barely anything to back the "Rebecca" bit up (except that she's the one who spoke to Salomé about the Rift, and who owned the Cobra MKIII that is in the Tionisla Graveyard now, that very one who sent the encoded transmission), but it paid off !

My 2 cents

Drew says don't over think it. So Fibonacci’s Zephyrum refers to zero, or the origin. That could mean the origin of the galactic coordinate system, or the origin of mankind, or both. Either way it means Sol.

So, why would Salome go to Sol?

As I understand it, she plans to release some great secrets to the Bubble. How is she going to do this? She needs a transmitter, and not just a ship transmitter. Presumably a ship transmitter isn't very powerful and the message has to go through relay links to go long distances. Otherwise, just broadcast from wherever she is!**

But she cannot use any official comm link because they are compromised by TPTB (The Powers That Be). Message goes in, gets encrypted and sent only to TPTB and no one is the wiser. So, she needs to link into one or more unregistered comm beacons.

And, if I recall, there are several such beacons in Sol.

This also probably relates to the ancient artifact found on Mars, of which we know nothing about. My guess is this is part of the mystery to unfold, and probably has to do with the Guardians.

So the rest of the message probably relates to the route she will be taking.




** OK lets forget for a moment that every ship has such impressive telecommunications capability that it can telepresence an entire crewperson into any other ship anywhere in the galaxy.

In fairness, the idea of vital information being only transportable via physical media was somewhat resuscitated by the ending of Rogue One!

Rebecca Weston is a known character from Drews "Oolite" saga, which is semi-connected with the Elite lore (Drew has stated before "parallel universes will often share a lot in common" concerning these intersecting storylines.)

I presume on decoding all the systems, the word 'rebecca' jumped out, and it was a short leap from there to separate it from the rest of the string.

We managed to overpower the invaders. but not before
they took out the main reactor. We're dead in space. with
twenty minutes of life support left. Didn't get nothing out
of them before they died, but clearly it was all planned.
They took a drug which killed them. Doc says it's
nicknamed 'Hexedit'. First it kills your memories, then it
kills you. Neat and tidy.

So we're dead, just waiting for the end. This will be the last
log from the Zurara. Some of the crew have already killed
themselves. Others are praying to whatever deity they
believe might help them. A few are drinking themselves
into oblivion. I don't know what will get us first the lack of
oxygen or the cold. Battery power is about to die.

signal out. but I don't know if anyone received it. It will
probably freak them out. I don't think they know we're
here.

We dropped a series of beacons out here, all targeted
around Earth-like or terraformable worlds We prepped
some of the terraform candidates with seeders and
biofilters. No one can figure out why it was necessary. but
that was the mission. Just as we were turning back...
boom, those cargo-handlers went nuts.

So I was partially right. The contract issuers were the ones that ensured they never returned, and the common theory that the beacons were being placed for the event of evacuation. Hence, exodus. Now I think the question is redirected to... what in the world is about to happen to our bubble?

Well, awesome job solving the puzzle!

The stories have been developing slowly and for a long time. One of my decryption attempts on that string of characters contained carrot stick, got a laugh out of that. That is what many of these things feel like, just enough to keep people like me scouring planets in the deep. The meta game is entertaining for sure but I also hope we see events that have a more visceral impact on gameplay soon.

Ok so now let's resume the video riddle shall we .... we still have to find where Salomé is heading to voice the truth about something she has found regarding this issue.
Sol is a great candidate . Perhaps because she might use voyager probe to broadcast.
Achenar also as she perhaps knows a way to use impérial broadcast system.
Or Prism or Lave for reason I don't know .
(Thus i think that so far the only system which links nowdays and first Elite lore is Tionisla)

Of all people to recognize that SYREADIAE was a system name buried in there, I am SO not surprised that it was the genius Jackie "Decoder of the Procedural Naming System" Silver who pulled it off.
