THE FORMIDINE RIFT MYSTERY (Part 4)

Maybe the aliens are a distraction. I guess we'll know more in a couple of weeks

Perhaps. The old lady basically told us it wasn't the Thargoids. Maybe it's a whole different bees nest.

Frankly I welcome both. Getting tired of delivering poop and blowing up the same FDL's over and over again.

We should take bets to how many words Salome can type before she gets blown up. The future storyline of this game has been entirely weighted on the internet's ability NOT to troll. I don't think this is going to work out for FD.

Seems SDC guys are going to side on with Salomé for the fun of it. They may be ... whatever they are, but we must admit they have a point at PvP. I bet Salomé (and the other NPCs) will be well protected.

Just been looking up the meaning of the name Zarura, and apparently, it means "necessary". Now, that screams to me that the originators of the mission felt the dynasty exedition to be needed for some reason. More and more evidence for an imminent threat to humanity?
Drew chooses his names well, so there is a hint there.
.
I'm not sure about 'imminent' but possibly 'inevitable'. This mega-ship was sent out in 3270 and it is now 3303, after all. If a disaster were known to be approaching, whether natural or artificial, then steps might be taken to mitigate it or the side-effects. If it is war that is feared, then reconnaissance, espionage and diplomacy might feature, even in the presence of a significant technological disadvantage. If it is a natural disaster, then with sufficient warning an evacuation could take place - even of entire star systems (although I don't think any natural phenomenon would make it necessary to send expeditions into deep space like this). So what might be coming that would take decades to arrive? What other actions than the undertaking of the Dynasty Expeditions would people be taking in the 30+ years since then? When was the 'threat' first identified and how? Are there any other civilisations in the Milky Way and do they know about it (making them potential allies, perhaps)?
.
Added on to all this are the 'Missing'. The Dynasty Expedition crews are some. The Guardians and their Exiles are more - perhaps the Exiles are still around, or their descendants. Are there Generation Ships still waiting to be found? (I suspect so but that's just me speculating). Perhaps there are some lost colonies from (semi) successful Generation Ships and maybe they have learned things that might be helpful? There are mysteries enough in the game and even if Salomé survives, I think she will give us more questions than answers. At least, that's what I'm hoping.

They only way she survives is if she isn't on the ship she claims to be on. That telepresence.

Sure. Till they execute Order 66.

Perhaps it was not a POI previously but it was changed to a POI recently because players failed to find it up to now. When was the comment made that it was not a POI - was that a long time ago?

Also, perhaps the comment that it is not a POI was referring to something else not yet found?

That said, I'm not sure how you would find a ship floating in space without there being a POI given the game architecture as it stands today, unless it was previously placed on a planet surface and moved to a POI when they decided to make it a mega ship instead of a crashed conda or suchlike.

It seems as though there is some confusion over the definition of POI in E D, which has caused some sodium chloride to be precipitated today. I have been going by "Points of Interest (POIs) are random encounters on the surface of planets and moons. They are not always persistent" source: http://elite-dangerous.wikia.com/wiki/Points_of_Interest.

What other definition have people been using?

If anyone want's to help out another ongoing mystery, there's always the Raxxla Thread

Except the whole poiint of the FRift mystery has been in trying to solve the clues. FD have said there will be no clues to Raxxla, altough it is in-game.

lol sure they are. I won't be online that day, but trust me, you'll be better off destroying them on sight before their numbers grow. Because the second Salome shows up they'll have a coordinated countdown on their discord and vaporize her before all her "bodyguards" even know what happened. Kinda tough to defend against 20 simultaneous rails. She'll be dust before you even deploy hard points.

Engage them before she shows up.

"At Phaethon's Reach, Follow the Path of Souls, DB-IB Fi(0) T-1319 SUM(10,7,5,3)"
.
Could Fi(0) mean the start of the Fibonacci series?
.
http://i.imgur.com/jX9uGYK.png
.
If we take the numbers 1319, 1984, 3303 as Fibonacci series, we can extend these as follows, 654,665,1319,1984,3303.
.
If we join numbers 654,665,1319 as follows, 6546651319 we have ten numbers, from this result, we then select numbers according to positions indicated by the numbers 10,7,5,3.
.
We then obtain for position 10 we get a 9, for position 7 we get a 1, for position 5 we get a 6 and for position 3 we get a 4. From this we obtain numbers 9164.
.
Therefore, either the number 9164 represents something as is, OR, we could SUM(9+1+6+4) = 20, which is the Fibonacci position F(20) which equals 6765.

Maybe we need to go back in the Fibonacci series as far as possible, i.e. 11,654,665,1319,1984,3303,5287,8590,13877,22467, now the sum of the 3rd, 5th, 7th and 10th number is 30403. The HIP 30403 is also known as HD 44475 which is a system in game.

*** A CALL TO ALL RIFTERS: ***
If anyone is going to head out to the Rift to take a look at the new discovery, I ask that you grab as many Meta-Alloys as you can and drop them off at the two asteroid bases in the Heart & Soul Nebula's.

I just answered to this call in Farsight. May the small load help to keep it active.

Sorry, my time is limited and bringing more would have limited my jump range too much.

Reboot worked. But my crew-member was klicked at the first message. He did not even get it. I really wanted to show him :/

Well, i'll stay here at least till tomorrow evening. maybe i can get those messages through to him.

That's just it: I would love to get in on this. IF the devs would confirm, in no uncertain terms, that yes, there is something out there, right now, to be found.

All these vagueries though...Getting to wonder whether they are just stringing us along while they work to insert the next Discovery with the next update.

Also, scanners that actually find things would help.

So. Much. This.

The rift mystery has been interesting and fun but for he love of god, it's abysmal game narrative.

The explanation/excuse of "I'm doing so many things at the same time" is just not washing. You either pay someone to do this full time ahead of game launch to get it to a usable point and then on a freelance basis to cater to the developing story and gameplay milestones, or you don't. Anything in between is simply not fair to the paying customers.

I love your work and I am reading your books but FDEV should either hire you fully or you'll have to simply ignore your day job and family for a while ;)

So if anyone is interested, i will head out there from Farsight in a few minutes. it's about 4,7k, so this will be a serious run. I can scan stuff on the way back anyway.

I'll be on "mobius pve" if someone want's to join MC. I'll open it up once i take off, let's hope it's more reliable than during the weekend.

But i'll give note when i am close, cause this will take time. No idea if i even can make it today.

I'm on my way, with a couple of MA as requested. Don't Farsight /Base Camp have UC connections?

CoR did a great job decrypting the clues and finally finding something in the Rift. I feel deflated, but not defeated, because it's the closing of a chapter; but an opening of a new one! Taking a brief holiday in Spirograph and letting the deep teals soak into my soul. After the 29th, back to the Rift for more scans and more adventure.
