So at this point what's the general consensus? is it still worthwhile searching the firt for other POI's? or move on to explore other regions? Any point in sticking around in the rift? What's next?

I think the mega-ship is the answer to "What" (at least it was/is what R. searched out there).
The real mystery, in my opinion, is now "Who" and "Why".

The whole Formidine Rift story got much more interesting for me now that the "what" is out of the way.

I've made a imgur album with some pics of the Zurara, nothing fancy, just high res screenshots to give a sense of scale and to identify the main parts of the ships, bridge, living area, main engines, etc. The asp in front of bridge it's there to give a sense of scale. Spoilers obviously.

The event on the 29th is being organised by CoR.

If you want to get involved you need to contact them and they will assign you a wing to fly with.

There will be istancing problems with servers etc but the idea is you protect Salome on the PC and Yuri on Xbox.

They will be in their own wing with CoR everyone else will be supporting the wing

What? Where do you get that info from? As far as I can tell this event is open to everyone, regardless of CoR affiliation. Btw, they aren't accepting any new recruits until May '17.

I think some clarification might be useful at this point. Why do we need authorisation ('cos that's what it sounds like) from CoR, to participate in whatever happens on the 29th?

What happens if players don't contact CoR? Shot on sight? Not in the right instance?

Some of them, long-time-players, don't even know what this thing is about. Or that there is an event upcoming on the 29th. I try to get the few i know involved, but when people with billions on their account have no idea there is even an event, Frontier has to step up their game. How many people will miss out on this, because they might not even read Galnet?

I too am very curious to know what was there to find from day one. And if there is still things to find. I was going to take another trip out there after the 29th, but it seems it would now be a sightseeing trip as opposed to one of hopeful discovery. I will certainly still go but it would be nice to know there are still things to find, probes, unique planet descriptions. You did say it was not a POI. Would an Anaconda not be a POI? So was the Anaconda in from the start or was that added in later to flesh out something else, and FDEV have just improved things as they went along?

Can't rep ou again at the moment but have some virtual +rep.

Of course what would that trouble be? The revealing of something that the powers that be, were so worried about that they would hatch this whole black ops programme and happy kill to hide. That knowledge would probably cause mass hysteria and panic. You can almost see why they would do things this way. They are looking at the big picture. And the big picture is a few dozen deaths vs millions of deaths. And some of humanity surviving vs possible extinction (depending on what is going on)... Almost.

But Rebecca said this went above the Feds, Imps and Alliance. Who is that? Galcop? INRA? Sirius?

Some other candidates which fit the description to some extent: The Pilots Federation, The Elite Pilots Federation, The Dark Wheel, whoever it was that arranged the assassination of Jason Ryder.

And a few with nothing to back it up other than, for want of a better phrase, threads of the tapestry that should be there but aren't: the missing that came back and the AIs that went nowhere.

Maybe I can help:

1) You don't need "authorization" from anybody to participate - all are welcome to participate in any way they want, for any side, on any platform. The event is not being organized by CoR at all - even our leadership is fairly in the dark with regards to details. The event is being organized AFAIK by Drew & FDev.

2) There are discord servers set up for allied coordination of VIP defense, If you would like to get involved I recommend stopping by and saying hello - The people on these servers comprise both independents, and pilots from a variety of groups . CoR have a presence as well as people from both empire and Fed aligned groups, PvP groups, explorers, Canonn people, you name it (As i said earlier there's also SDC members helping with build loadouts, engineering advice, and PvP tactics and coordination)

It's here, if you so wish, you can get as involved as you would like. either as little as just declaring support and then just lurking to stay informed, or as far as joining a wing, taking part in training, etc... it's up to you how much or how little.

Try contacting them, it will be hard to join in without CoR due to instancing and CoR are organising the wings.

We at Sap.Core on xbox have registered with them and as far as I'm aware it's the only way to get involved properly.

Like I say it's not a closed event but with instancing prioritising CoR wings alongside Salome on PC and Yuri on Xbox I can't see any other way of doing it.

Random observation, I just noticed Rebecca Weston's ship is in the multi-crew ED training video, isn't she The old woman Salome spoke to? A possible clue in there or just a random NPC?
