Devs, we need an EDDB type utlity embedded in the ship`s computer...

At first there were 3rd party apps that directly connected to ED but Frontier had those shut down. Now it's a player account requiring actual play in the game to indirectly download the data or something like that. Doesn't make a lot of sense why Frontier did this as it does frustrate many sites supporting and enhancing the game at no cost to them.

For those who don`t know EDDB is Elite Dangerous Database. It will give you info on where most commodities are and what are the good trade routes. It has been extremely useful to me on long tourist missions where I get a guy wanting an obscure comodity and I can relatively easily detoiur to get it. Previously, I failed missions charging around the universe trying to find an obscure item or just gave up, making the customer mad.

Also it`s not perfect, if the info is old, items may no longer be where it indicates, which I like. So a mechanic where the info is sometimes incorrect would also add to the gameplay.

It`s really not a cheat in my view, but like some have siad, it`s more like a catalogue browser that you could get on the internet today or a magazine A-Z.

We should have something like this already embedded in the ships we use or as a module we can buy with ingame credits and attach.

Maybe you guys should get in touch with the guys who make EDDB?

I agree very much with this.

As far as I can tell, Elite dangerous is only playable because of sites like EDDB, Inara and Coriolis.

Without them, it would just be too frustrating to bother with.

I agree. EDDB may be the single most useful tool I use in all its ways. I very much dislike having to leave the game environment to browse a web page in the real world. The info EDDB should be accessible from within the game's ship's computer.

It's entirely sensible that the game should have this built in, like other features that aren't there that we'd take for granted IRL now or in the near future, never mind in a millennium.

However I like having things like EDDiscovery and EDDB open on my other monitor. Having it in game would have to be done really well to not cram even more into the UI without being able to see multiple pieces of information you might want to look at at once. E.g. comparing missions and trades to a particular destination.

FDev pushing prices/outfitting straight to EDDN when someone docks somewhere, or nightly en masse maybe, might be a nice start though.

Remember guys, forum 101: replace any instance of "we need" with "I want".

I've not ever, ever thought about this being necessary and with the proposition laid in front of me I just can't express how remarkable unessential this is.

No skies gonna be falling over this not happening.

Having another full-screen interface for an in-game EDDB wouldn't be that jarring;

You already have full-screen interfaces for Powerplay, Outfitting, Engineering, Commodity markets, Galaxy/system/planet maps... What's one more full screen interface going to do?

For PC & Mac players, I agree with you. It would be a nice addition for EDDB-like functionality in-game, but it's not exactly hard work to ALT+TAB to a browser and back again.

For XBox and PS4 players, it's nowhere near as simple. I'm sure I don't speak for everyone, but the concept of having to balance a laptop or tablet+dock on the arm of the sofa whilst playing on my console is enough to just make me get up and move over to the desktop PC instead.

I'd advise you move to PC anyway ;)

In any case, the main issue here is the assumption that everyone has the right for this to be implemented. When FD wrote the game, they created a BGS with states, visible states on the map, directly visible trade routes, the ability to BUY info on those trade routes...need materials? DSS shows the mat contents of an unknown body and they're shown for known bodies.

To the guys that actually made the game, that's your EDDB.io right there. There was clearly consideration on the topic and a method of finding trade routes etc. to anyone with five seconds to work it out. The ability to read the trade routes then develops with you as a player, and you find the most profitable routes more easily.

It's not FD's fault that third parties took all this out the mix by letting you click one button or two, and the most profitable route possible is magically revealed to you. Notably by extension it's not their fault when people complain about the lack of depth in trading, and while FD may or may not have the good grace to say "yeah guys use whatever you want, no skin off our nose", I personally see it as insulting to physically ask FD to have all that effort stripped out in favour of "click one button for instant mindless profitz".

No wonder players are getting bored...lol.

Careful what you wish for. If they did implement something like eddb, the interface would be horrid (it just would) and eddb would then probably die due to lack of data

Lol, 'depth'.

What is in-game: Economic state and type, with commodities linked to both. Specific tradelines and intensity can be shown on the map.
What you think is 'depth': Go to arrow for big money.

Its okay you want easy, no-brain gameplay to see a variable go up fast. Its just a game, so if you find that to be enjoyable, fine. Just dont pretend it has anything to do with 'depth' when all you want is some app to tell you where to A-B grind.

please try other games, your lack of game design is hilarious

Don't worry, my XB360 was retired in favour of an i7/GTX970 HTPC with a quartet of wireless XB360 gamepads. I enjoy sofa gaming but I'm no longer a console peasant :p

I expected this answer. I would use it. I prefer something that`s less accurate, not totally accurate. Reality is never perfectly accurate, ask any economist. Too many people turn their games into sterile spreadsheets rather than an immersive experience. In rpgs, when everyone else is getting obsessed over numbers of a weapon that does 4+5+10+50+ fire damage, etc, etc, I`d be like "Just give me a decent sword and point me to the enemy!" You as well as some others likely won`t get it. It`s just how I roll.

I know exactly how you roll, cuz I'm the same. I'd forsake a Godly Sword of Excellent Maiming +50 to grab that Uncommon Katana (that does only a +2 to rats), only cuz it looks cool with my character's outfit.

I would be happy with a trade computer that shows you the commodity prices of the places you have been to. They wouldn't be the current prices, just the prices they where when you left there.

This wouldn't replace EDDB as it will be limited to the stations you have actually visited. It would also be great for VR users like myself who can't actually alt-tab out of the game.

Then checkout TCE Mk.II, it's the tool, you are looking for, until Frontier decides to make it in game.

IMHO most of the Data available on 3rd Party sites should be done in-game via the Ship's Computer. Or no later than docked (Allied Station or owned by a Special Faction/Company).

However, it would be limited to whatever onboard Scans were conducted by the individual CMDR or what that Allied Faction/Station knows about the local area - which is perfectly okay and still limits it all.

In my books, Universal Cartographics, the Universal Geology Institute and the Universal Mineralogy Institures would all be a thing - and have special places & Service Stations.
Places you can dock and request Information based on Rank and/or Reputation.

Other than that, we got that new "Contacts History" Tab, right?
How about issuing public Information Requests and permit Player-Player Information brokering, if available. Can be anything... Known locations of Volcanism, Materials on Planets or System Maps, Pristine Metallic Rings for Mining. Anything.
That'd put that "Contacts History" Tab to good use. Meet alot of Players? Better chances someone has the Data you need and accepts the offer (all pricing set by Frontier).

You're an ELITE Explorer and want to look at the Galaxy through the eyes of Universal Cartographics?
Dock at their place and visit their "Galactic Database Stellarium", allowing you to see everything they know. Including tools to triangulate or perform Deep Space Analysis based on powerful Filters.

You just returned from a large Exploration Trip and scanned alot of Objects?
Well, if you're lucky you get a notification Minutes after your Map Data sale... because you found a new UC Galactic Stellar Record Breaker entry. And are now in the Books of Galactic Discovery Records, which you can review at anytime.

There's tons of stuff that could be done with Information that all readily exists.
Unfortunately, noone at Frontier realizes the enourmous potential this has for Player-Player interaction, Data Brokering and i.e. the enhanced Realism of entities like UC - who for the 1st time could become actual Service Providers.
Arguably, Players could and should be the most interesting and comprehensive Service Providers amongst themselves. But I guess since it doesn't involve shooting each other, it isn't deemed of any use.
