THE FORMIDINE RIFT MYSTERY (Part 4)

What did the coded text say on the nile?

Éridan (constellation)
WIKI :
This constellation of the southern hemisphere owes its name to a river of Greek mythology. It is sometimes said that it is the Po or the Rhone, but some Greeks, including Diodorus and Theon of Alexandria, assert that the name of Eridan replaced the name of the Nile, Eratosthenes even says that Aratus calls Eridan the river of 'Orion.

It was listed for the first time by Ptolemy, but it was William Herschel who cataloged it in 1783. It ended in Acamar.

This constellation of Eridan offers the peculiarity of presenting an empty zone of any galaxy over a billion light years, making it the largest "void" known in the universe.

The story goes that the son of the sun God "Phaeton" had fallen into this river and since that river bears the name. The Heliades, sisters of Phaeton, caused their sorrows to burst, and were changed into poplars.

The systems you are referring to were only colonised in 3301, as a result of the first exploration CG in Lambda Andromedae. It is certainly interesting that they point towards the Rift (and that Sirius was behind the construction of the stations) and in hindsight could be taken as a hint to explore further in that direction. The names of the systems (changed from what they had been prior to the CG) might also provide a hint as to the nature of the Rift. The Zurara was lost 30 years before this, though, so there's no causal relation there.
.
The 'Galactic Hyperdrives' from the first Elite are, I think, canon (as they are mentioned in Drew's lore summary of Hyperspace https://www.drewwagar.com/lore/elite-dangerous-lore-hyperspace/ ) but they might have led to other parts of our own galaxy, rather than others. No one knows where those destinations were/are in relation to the Elite: Dangerous galaxy, although permit-locked sectors might provide possible locations.

I didn't know those systems had been renamed, that was before I started to get involved with the game. Perhaps that's one of the clues that we missed.
I'd still like to know why TOW's Cobra sent out the message EAFOTS rather than "Syreadiae" !

YOUR interpretation is that it's something worse. Other interpretations are available.

Your second point appears to agree with me.

What other interpretations? The phrase used is specific in its meaning. My second point doesn't.

Well here is an example.

What is the reason for Dynasty? What if it was something so bad, that if it came out it would cause mass unrest and violence, and may lead to the breakdown of order. Over thousands of worlds, that might lead to billions of deaths. Something like a plan by a major organisation like Sirius to wipe out whole populations. Some thing that would make the previous encounters with the Thargoids look trivial. But the plot might have nothing to do with the Thragoids or any other aliens and by a purely human affair. Thus something that makes the trouble with the Thargoids look a small matter.

That literally agrees with me...

Could be anything, could be a malfunction of the navigation computer which just repeats the sector names of a part of the navigation log. I guess Drew will come up with an easy enough explanation.

Got a rep from Drew for the Portuguese bloke. :)

His opus magnum, "Crónica do descobrimento e conquista da Guiné", was a chronic about the Portuguese discovery expeditions. For me thats reason enough to name a ship after him...

I'm going to go out on a leap and say that maybe it was a pointer to look in that direction, not necessarily search those systems, as if you pass the Heart and Soul Nebula you do eventually come across the rift from there, I guess that was also the idea between the Heart and Soul 'gateway/entrance' :)

The beacons and bases were in EAFOTS. It's not just a POI. ;)

I see this comment coming up a lot. You guys are thinking about it all wrong. If grievers show up with the intention on killing Salome, they're not going to get into a fight with you, her bodyguards. They're not going to stick around to win the war. What they'll do is sit there, looking all innocent and wait. When Salome shows up, they'll probably be all on the same discord with someone counting down and when the clock hits zero Salome will be hit by 50 rails at once. She will blow up instantly before any of you even know what happened. Then they'll high wake out before your hardpoints are even deployed and log out when they get to the next system.

If they want her dead, there won't be a battle.

If you want to protect her, form a sphere of shield tanking ships all around hers with all pips to SYS.

Given how much attention the majority of grievers seek it may be possible to spot them based on notoriety alone.

Some of Zurara's chronicles where considered suspect because they where written by asking the person the story was about. Therefore, could be considered somewhat biased (history is written by the victor). This might indicate that this whole plot could be misdirection

The line Elfiono observed goes right through between the Heart and Soul nebulae on its way towards the Zurara. Would it hurt to assume that this is the line they took, with stations being put up along the route of habitable systems. What do we know of the Zurara's cargo it was carrying and offloading? These beacons may of been just pointers for Sirius to follow and colonise, but then I think "Why would they keep this a secret" so I guess this isn't a thought worth keeping.

That's a good point, but personally I prefer not to discard the Sirius theory. Those systems are very close to the bubble to say that the "RR line theory" is something evident. Perhaps Sirius changed its mind while colonizing. At a point they decided to keep it secret. When I have more time I want to read the history of those systems.

Haven't tried a DBX yet. Can you post a link to your loadout in http://beta.coriolis.edcd.io/? Would like to compare one against my armed AspX build

Here's a 55ly, combat ready build. It's min/maxed on stats.

http://beta.coriolis.edcd.io/outfit/diamondback_explorer?code=A0p0tdFfldd8sdf40u1a1a0208080245320jv62i2f.AwRj41Ko.CwBj4zXI.H4sIAAAAAAAAA2PgnSDFwCAYwcTAoPKFkYGBew%2BQ9Z9RbA0vkGISDeFmYJBQYGZgEOH59%2F%2F%2Ff2aRDmGggA8LA4PQBXagClauI5wMDJw2%2FEA2h9CNO0A1nBCKC0JxCx14AKR4JO6wAg1%2FBNQoCCJUQMR%2FXrAoQgAs%2F58PooVfEGSlSoE4UOg%2FAKcaY1anAAAA.CwegTCAMUgHDBLAtgBwKYCcEEMA2B9AYwHsBXLTEEARkjqA%3D

Things I might do differently if I built it again:
-You might want to go with the best charge enhanced power distributor instead of the lightest that will let you boost once moded for engines. Weapons drain pretty fast!
-With full sized full tank it will still jump 53ly. Was 2ly worth it? Meh.

Sorry for my previous comment, I have been reading backwards after answering Tansky, I wasn't in front of my computer and I couldn't read you before.

That's interesting. Perhaps Sirius was trying to repeat the failure that took place 30 years ago. But why?

Emissive munitions is what is currently keeping silent running out of the PvP meta, as I understand it. One hit from a weapon with that special effect and the ship will be easily visible and trackable until the effect wears off. Salomé flies a Clipper, so if it has been properly modded, then speed is her best defence, although hopefully she has an ECM and a suitable array of defensive modules. She's supposed to be running, not fighting, right? I got a bit worried when the clue29c trailer showed a Clipper with large cannons in the nacelle hardpoints...

Indeed. Emissive is just a stupid effect to put into this game. It's very unbalancing (which is why I avoid using it, even though I've gotten it by chance on several weapon rolls)!

I think they were just preparing some departure points for the upcoming Exodus.

Note: the EAFOTS message was on 3302. Aug. 5, and the bases and beacons there were added later, for the exploration CG on 3302. Nov. 17.
It was simple misdirection, which Mr. Wagar did say he used. To be frank, if I were in his shoes and I knew that Frontier would make the Zurara POI much better in an upcoming release, I probably would have done the same too and only pointed people towards the exact location after the update was done. After all the hype, the original version would have been a much bigger letdown.

Engineered modules screw up balancing IMHO. And the side effects even more so! It's like someone had Top Trumps and Magic The Gathering in mind, and created some unbalanced, ill-considered ED bolt on in a rush!?
