Community Event / Creation E:D can do 133 megapixel (16K!) screenshots!

When I heard about the 4x screenshot capability, I foolishly assumed it would quadruple the pixels. No, it quadruples both x and y axes!

I just got access to the solo game, and took the first screenshots. Since I'm playing with a 4K monitor, the resulting image is a whopping 15360x8640 pixels, or 133 megapixels!

Below size comparison. I don't know where to post 16K images, so if someone wants to host drop me a PM. The full size JPEG is 8MB.

edit: the game saves screenshots as BMP, I converted to JPEG, as the full-size BMP is 398MB

edit2: , credit to Dante80 for the hosting link!

Nice representation,

I wish they saved them as PNG so there is no Loss in quality, Seems silly to offer such high resolution screenshots if they are saved as JPEG.

(I am assuming they are JPEG's from your post).

I thought they were all BMPs. Even the normal F10 screenshots make pretty large files on my PC.

They're saved as BMP, all 398MB of it... I converted to JPEG to make the size manageable.

PNG would be better, though I didn't bother to check if the BMP is compressed or not.

Excellent post. Shows the comparisons very well...

And yes, the original screenies are in .BMP format rather than .jpg

This is a seriously cool picture, that also shows some of the techniques used by Cobra to render the game. Take a look at those very, very dim stars for example that are impossible to see by a naked eye. Its almost like looking at a developers telescope..XD

Please post as many and as varied screenshots you can/want in that resolution, I would really like to see a red dwarf star up close for example. And thanks a lot for that man!! :D

I'm glad you like it! I'm planning to do more for sure, after I have some time to learn to fly.

There's some bugs going on in the asteroids, it looks like some of them are spinning.

I just wish they'd freeze the frame (note the motion blur on the asteroids in the foreground) before taking the screenshot. Lots of detail lost in that picture unfortunately. If it were a static image it would be frame quality otherwise.
