Hi there,

The red smilie was just to get you in here.... sure you already understood, that this smilies can't be real ^^

(standard beta - so only singleplayer yet for me, so you know ^^) BUT SOOOO GOOOD, OH YEAh ok calm down, take a deep breath and start from the beginning :D

Well, where to start... the first negative thing I remember, after fighting around, said not versus AI enemies, but with the whole joy and ped configs: was my wife! Why negative? Well... as I saw around 21:00 that the standard beta allowed single player, I had to jump in so I did... you should have seen me: excited like an Elvis fan who you would announce elvis is alive! Excited like a man who did 50 years of prison and would get a night with a lovely girl... errrr.... going too far here.....^^ back to the thing :rolleyes:

D/L started fine, around 3Mb/sec... fastly went down to nearly 0.... so it took already up to 22:30 for me to get into the cockpit and asking what all those controls are for!
The bad part now... well, around 1am, totally focused ingame with my headset, a cold hand touched my naked shoulder... I jumped on my seat loosing at the same occasion ship control! Ah yeah, forgot to told: PilotAids all off... the hand was from my wife, asking what the hell I'm still doing so late, knowing I'm up at 5am!

[redacted] she scared the hell out of me :eek::eek::eek:

Ok, that's done, that night I ejected, into the bed :eek:

Next day... yesterday so!

As I didn't even shoot a space container the night before (or in the very early morning, as you want :D ) I tried to get more into the first mission. Now the control over the ship was covered, lets kick some space-cans!
Now how the hell do I lock those ugly things?!.... Control setup... click click click... back to game... FIIIIIIIIIREE ...... hmmmm, targetting would be nice, before firing....soooo, target locked, fire, aaaah yes, now I see its damage.. BOUM!! Yes, rest remaining! Where are they *swinging my head around with the TrackIR5*...... there you are [redacted], take this!!!!!!!! Well, guess you understood that they lost it all against me ... YESSSS.
Didn't mentioned it before, a bit of a shame, but... the very first time I didn't read what I had to do... so guess what?! I scooped them into my cargo bay, no joke :D:D:D

Being very tired I left this first big triumph behind and jumped into the bed right away (without being ejected from the cockpit this time)!

Tonight... back from work, HELLO DOGS, HELLO KIDS, HELLO WIFE!!!! bye bye dogs, bye bye kids, bye bye wife, going up and fire up ED :cool:

And here we go, the cans died all w/o resistense yesternight, tonight I want to hear some pirates scream!

Next missions... *frustration-on-high-level* missions! Hell, took me around 10 times dying before starting to hit the other [redacted] Then another 10 times to get him finally down, crazy pirate, and said it's only AI... I'm shaking just on the idea going online :eek: (maybe i'll try to run off all the time, errrr, avoiding rocks btw :D )
Oh, btw... forgot one chapter! After the first 10 times of trying to barely hit the enemy, I was sooooo stuck with my eyes on the radar that I forgot to eventually have a look around of obstacles! My son who took a seat just on my left started to yell: hey HEY HEEEEYYYYY! What followed was an immediate BOOOOM... should have known that the turbo pushed, at full powered engine on forward thrust, against a rock, zero survival.

Rock 1, Me 0. (now thinking about it, to be honest, it was more: Rock 20, Me 0)

Ok, next missions... what the hell, now they are more of them??? I mean enemies, the rocks are always overcrowded anyway :D I WANT CANs BACK!!! Ok, frustration-mode-on-and-try-until-win-mode-on-too!

/me is happy!

Yes, around 5 times of trying around (now w/o smashing into stupid debries), I'm getting it now slowly... configured now the buttons on the TM Warthog to manage the power around, I took 'em down (I swear, ALL of 'em)!

/me prefers cans, they don't move, neither do they fight back!

Any way, now all looks fine, 20:30, no cold hand on my shoulder, and learned to sneak around avoiding a ship where I need to destroy other little ones... but still didn't succeded that mission!

After just a couple of playing hours, I just can't wait to master it more, to explore the universe, the milkyway (like the icy-mars just swallowed which is exploring my stomach right now :D )...

Elite just rocks! For the first time I really feel the enthousiast back I was in the early 90ies playing elite frontier! The last past years some games where promising, but.... no :rolleyes: Even if there's SC coming out somewhere which I get too, as the last X-rebirth is just a hudge deception and piece of space-can, ED is just THE space sim I was waiting all thoses years along (+2 years of EVE-online).

So... THANKS to the devs, keeping up alive ED, HELL IT ROCKS (<- until they got me, the rock... ok I stop being stupid :rolleyes: )

and i agree, i don't really care about other games, i will get hands full for many years with ED and with each new expansion it will be like new game...

Be said, maybe a ton of non understandable stuff, english isn't my mothertongue (even if I think I'm good at ^^)... now maybe written in german or french, translated through google thingies back to english, might have given another strange result :D :D

i can relate to many things he said :)
remember how much time i spent on elite on zx spectrum and how i missed all that for many years and then when fired up ED single player build how perfect all is, you can change many things but none will make it better, just different.

i tried to scoop in first mission containers too - we just never read what we are supposed to do because we do what we want and not what we are supposed to :D

also i tried to imagine his wife's reaction and that is hilarious too, man should be kids all their life long - after all what is happiness if not what OP experienced and i also have it every time i launch ed (well, there are some frustrations that tend to kill you, but that is what the game is about - over coming obstacles and getting better), also he expressed his emotions in a manner very rarely we can see on internet - very openly and even childish and that was hilarious too - i am no kid but i am excited as one when play ED and that IMO is the top level that any game can ever achieve ;)

so well done Frontier - you turn grumpy old men into kids!

LOOOOL, and I though I was alone (in the dark ^^).... took me already 10 minutes to get 'em scooped anyway... finding out the cargo thing, then how to approach that thing and suddently *SWOP*, YESSSS, in the carg!
Yes, 'bout reading... no-time, wanted to see the game finally ^^


Now for the rest, my style of writing... I always try to imagine it the cartoon way. Of course, this sense doesn't always fit with anyone :D So sometimes it's good for the one, boring to death for the other (maybe only a pirate^^)

:D Glad some enjoy anyway, and... sorry for the other then :D

You are soo Right :smilie:

I played Elite 1987 on a Commodore Amiga 500 and Elite makes me a Gamer (Zocker). The first Game that i played 6-8 Hours in One Piece.
I loved Elite.

Elite Dangerous is the best Space-Sim for me. The HUD, the Cockpit, Supercruise and the gigantic Milky Way. I can tell you that the Online-Universe is great and a great fun to see when other Players docked and Launch and see this Ships in a Station like a big Lakon or Anaconda :smilie:

Im a German and my Heart pumps for the German Team an on Sunday the 13th THIS German Soccer-Team Shows all over the World that THIS Team is the Best in the World. Thumps UP

yeah, me 2, wanted to finally see it, luckily i have good internet connection (while Latvia is a Republic of Bananas in most areas the internet speed is 6th best in the world) and it took me just 5 minutes to download ;)

keep the spirit, emotions are only real thing worth living for anyway :)

I miss that excitement, been playing for 4 weeks roughly and love E:d but having reached the Cobra my interest has waned, I'm banking all my excitement for the Standard Beta updates, I hear they were going to be big, we already know a couple of things. I feel ashamed and dirty after all the excitement (and being a £ton down) that I've lost my pioneering passion.

I have the attention span of a goldfish.

I'm hoping we'll get exploration and mining on SB and much much more of the Elite universe for some proper exploring. We'll see, but getting psych'd about the SB, for now I'm counting the days.

Looking forward to being as excited as the OP again, roll on those SB updates. :D

You might have to change your vision about ED, when you're playing.

I fully understand what you say, and why it happens, as I'm going through on nearly all games (even Watchdogs and GTA5)...

I try to get back to my love for games back in the 90ties, and can feel back how it was when I played Elite, the white polygon only game ^^
That time, our imagination brought us all we needed, the game physics where there, and we just applid in our head the graphics, no more needed today.

Try just a time travel back, and get out of the game what gave you full satisfaction in younger years ^^ For me, ED is special, in the way that I don't play it like other games, damn come on, it's ELITE we are talking about (some kind of that way) :D :D
