THE FORMIDINE RIFT MYSTERY (Part 4)

lol.

Funnily enough, she was online before. I think she might of accidentally came in to Open play because she appeared for about 5 seconds and then switched to a private group.

Location: Tionisla

The fact it was Tionisla is interesting.

She appeared very briefly in open some weeks ago too - that was in Deciat, I assumed accident then (and likely free engineering), but Tionisla could mean something.

Ran is Epsilon Eridani. The closest Eridani star to Sol(heart of the core) and home to two shady minor factions.
- Sublime order of Van Maanen star. An old strange religious sect, with a history back to FE2.
- Independent Flee of Mothership. This one is not listed in INARA. Never seen it before. Might be new in 2.3 as a replacement for the equally strange faction, Worldcraft.

By coincidence I got myself allied with the Sublime Van Maanen people just yesterday. And by coincidence, most of the rep came by selling exploration data, most of which came from systems between the bubble and the Witch Head Nebula. (Seems the increased value of exploration data has an added benefit - it is more useful for gaining rep.)

Unfortunately my curiosity was not satisfied by the game. Though I went to their home system I didn't learn anything about them.

I don't think there is a WorldCraft faction, but there is a tourist beacon. WorldCraft sold atmospheric processors, for terraforming and creating tourist worlds. Perhaps WorldCraft sold their seeders and other equipment to the Dynasty mission. The timeline would be about right.

Yeah, this was an roughly an hour ago, I wasn't sure whether to say anything here in case it lead's to nothing. You think there might be something there? ties to the event perhaps?

I won't go into details, but tactics, meta and over-seriousness. Whilst I get the reasons behind some of it, helping based on the current plan (quite possibly the one most likely to succeed) promises to be a rather dull experience.

Yeah, as much as I wish them success (as an event, no matter what happens to the characters) I'm starting to think that if I do have any time to game on the 29th, International Tabletop Day might be a better, more fun and social option. Of course now that the sun has finally appeared here, I may just spend what free time I might have with the dog at the lake. There is no real role for independent pilots that I can see, at least last time I checked.

Edit: Plus, well, you know, PvP, meh.

Maybe the Tionisla Orbital Graveyard will go live as part of the event? That could be cool.

If it is Tionisla where the chase ends would make sense. Tionisla comms array has excellent range ;) Also, all my disappointment will instantly vanish if the destination were Tionisla, and we were not the only ones chasing Salomé... [alien]

Lave is also a possibility, Acmar, and Prism as well. But ever since i read Incursio I have been dreaming of a recreation of certain events... Just reading and I was on the edge of my seat unable to put the book down, imagination cogs spinning at full speed. Wishing that someday similar events would transpire in Elite Dangerous. Honestly it would be the most amazing incredible game changing event, get shivers when I think about it haha.

Is just wishful thinking on my behalf though. But I mean, how awesome would it be?! :D

I think it's more likely we will be taken to see something to expose the truth.

I think this is a good theory. Originally I thought she would broadcast the information using an unregistered comm beacon. Sol has several and IIRC Drew had said a Sol permit would be useful. But he has since said no permits would be required. So, perhaps there are other systems with unregistered comm beacons?

But back to this theory, Suppose there were an undiscovered installation in some system, possibly thousands of LS away from the outermost planed similar to the generation ship just found. She would lead us there, then we could interact with it with the data scanners to reveal its secrets.

This leads to another possibility: she could successfully lead us to the secret, and also die. The real conflict in this scenario will probably be at the destination, not the beginning. Even after revealing the secrets, where can she go that would be safe?

New California was a famous touist world and probably still is.
Disciption under Epsilon Eradini: http://www.dream-ware.co.uk/frontier/books/gazetteer/

It was terrafomed by Cisco Corporation that probably changed name to Worldcraft. They make stuff an escaping elite would want in their new region.

Worldcraft is no longer pressent, but is still listed in the 3rd party tools.
The mothership blokes are new.

Back when the game launched Van Maanen was the first ever permit I got, right after exploring Tionisla looking for derelicts (dragons domain anyone ?) and exploring everywhere that the Alliance had, or might have had their thargoid tech hidden.
Ever since 84 I've been looking for generation ships, stations in asteroids and anything Thargoid - been looking a long time.
Seems I might be in luck.

I'm still bothered by the Generation ship stopping at an asteroid. The whole premise of the Generation ships is that they don't stop until they reach their destination. Stopping would have added months to years to an already incredibly long journey. It doesn't make sense. A much better scenario would have been that the ship was impacted by an asteroid, and while making repairs, the crew member was exposed to the pathogen.

From the looks of it, we independents would actually be unwelcome.
However, I still have faith that there is more planned than a simple Buckyball for Salome - so I'll be in-game and watching the forums, hoping for something to do.

Some of the experts certainly seem annoyed to have so many amateurs underfoot. But the strategy that they came up with may be the only realistic way to make SOME use of the hundreds (thousands?!) of us volunteers they received, given the ~30 ship instance limit.

I'll also be trying to help, but following one of the semi-official livestreams... hope the organizers are kind enough to put them in wings with the main characters.

Edit: If it weren't for the limits of game mechanics, I could really see us little guys coming together :p

Man that Salome discord is packed! I thought we might get away with a mega instance for all of us but there's no way.
