THE FORMIDINE RIFT MYSTERY (Part 4)

Okay, since we've got nothing constructive to do for a couple of days, let's have your predictions of where Salome is aiming for in the Bubble on the 29th.
You all get two guesses and if anyone is correct, I'll give them 1MCR - unless you're on XBox, in which case you're hosed.
You can't use the same system as anyone else, so get your bids in early.

I'll update this post with the taken systems if anyone else chooses to play.

My bets are Ishtar and Tartarus.
TiberiuS: Acamar and ...
BuddyE: Tionisla and Reorte
L.S Algir: Lave and ...
G4RY: Persephone and Eurybia

Sheela Na Gig. No reason, I just like the idea of things going down at Sheela Na Gig...

Or Hutton Orbital at Alpha Cantauri. That could cause a real chase to get there :D

Ahhh yes, Tira Flirble!
I'm trying to remember which system has the awesomely named station "Glenn's House of Lambada".
I remember it's somewhere close to Persephone (where my fleet lives).

Haven't came across that one yet.

LOL the description for Eurybia is a funky....

'This system contains the central manufacturing plant for Devastator & Sons'... 'Guaranteed Devastation'

Maybe i should of picked something else, knowing my luck this is where Salomé dies :x

Also, if her crew dies... her information dies with it, lost! I seriously hope she gets to here destination

I recall reading somewhere that Ishtar is the precursor to Persephone and/or Aphrodite - so I'm claiming there's still a Greek link there ;)

Just to play along (I don't think this is it) I will nominate Lethe and Hecate. Because Lethe is about forgetting (so perhaps this is about remembering) and because in some tellings it is Hecate that showed Persephone the way back from the Underworld.

Quick question for those who can clarify - how is this event going to work with regard to instances? What if Salome survives in one instance, but gets waxed on Xbox or something?

Imma go out and say Cemiess and Prism. Cemiess because it's Aislings home system, no real reason other than that and maybe an attempt at grandstanding in Aisling's backyard, and Prism because, well, she'd be returning home as it were, even all things considered re: Prism bombing and ceding senatorship and whatnot, it's still her Home system if I've understood anything from this dang thread series. Would have said Sol but no permits.

Wouldn't the opposition be in a big disadvantage? Salomé and her aides will have a clear plan/course, but the dark side has to patrol many systems and I think that there is a big chance the they won't even meet her. In this case, this will be pretty one sided event. Some approximation of her planned route would be fine for us heretics.

As BuddyE has dibs on Tionisla and Reorte, I'll have to go for Epsilon Eridani or Ran as it's called in RL these days.

@DrewCarnegie - Ishtar is not Greek. You are abandoning your raison d'etre. YOU'VE CHANGED!

Interesting point and one I discussed last year when it became clear that the legend of Persephone mattered at some level.

There are two primary causes for the tight coupling of mythology.
  1. It's mythology playing out in that Salome really is Persephone re-incarnated and the story is following that arc. That's interesting from a story telling perspective but not from a practical one. It raises a ton of questions about how people 3000 years ago could anticipate events in 3303. If this is the case then to further the story it makes some sense for her to return or be revealed in a system whose name would match that revelation in mythology.
  2. It's code. Salome and or the Dark Wheel are using mythology which is probably larely forgotten in the ED World. This is much more likely. It gives them a reason for using terms from mythology to discretely pass information. If this is the case then the system would make sense from the ED world perspective not mythological perspective. It may be that a hint is dropped with a mythological reference but there's no reason to believe the system itself has mythological significance.

I believe it's the 2nd option and therefore something in or around Lave makes much more sense than something like Ishtar which would represent the first case.

So what happens if she gets waxed in one PC instance, does she just disappear in another player's instance?

She will only be in a single instance. She's been called an "advanced NPC" but that probably isn't the best term. Think of her as more of a stage character. There is a real person who is the actor/actress behind the character that we'll be interacting with. Normal rules that apply to any player in the game also apply to her ... with the exception that she will be playing in a self-constrained "Iron Man" mode which means that the character's game save will get "wiped" if someone kills the character. Same for the other three Imperial fugitives.

Everyone seems focused on Salomé but what about the other fugitives? Who are they and what are their background stories?

They can't all travel together because one will be in the Xbox universe. Maybe they will all take different routes. Why put all the eggs in one basket if the important thing is that the message gets out?

It's definitely the second option.

When Salome was rescued from the prison transport, the ships that were destroyed (ie. her escort) all had names associated with the idea of the Seven Veils.
I hypothesized that this indicated that an external faction (ie. not CoR) was involved and that the ship names were their way of sending a message to the rest of the galaxy (at least those who were able to understanding the message) that they had Salome.
Drew confirmed this (in a PM).

Given that the faction supporting Salome has used the Seven Veils concept as their 'calling card', I feel that Ishtar is still an 'in play' location, despite not being Greek.

I always felt that the Dark Wheel was too 'easy' - in much the same way that a 'Thargoids' story would have been too obvious (again, as confirmed by Drew) - so I don't feel they are significant.
The amulet found at Kahina's initial disappearance is (very effective) misdirection.

Edit:
I just got back from a lunch which involved far too much Yuengling. Any mistakes in the above are to be blamed on that.

You're welcome :)
