I would've quit log ago if it wasn't for INARA and speaking to other wingmates/ friendly wings they all have to agree. INARA created a community. Coriolis makes ship building a breeze instead of wasting precious in game CR and mat's to ultimately get something that doesn't jive the way you thought it would. I use both daily, and view INARA as a space hub of sorts where one can go to get their daily info. No INARA means no wings which means no community...see where I'm going with this?

This is hands down the best game I've ever played and these tools have made sure I stick with it.

ED is fully playable without the big 3rd party tools like EDDB or Inara.
Of course a notepad or spreadsheet to keep notes of what you have personally seen is handy, and tools that are basically glorified notepads are fine (see Genar-Hofoen's Captain's log), but the most popular ones out there go further than that.
The spirit of ED is that of discovery, that of figuring out stuff by yourself. For trade, actually finding a juicy trade route is half the fun, and if you take that out of the equation with crowd sourced information, then the game just turns into a grindfest (because otherwise the gameplay is a bit stale and simplistic). For combat, trying out new weapons and figuring out which one is most efficient against what, and fumbling your way around the outfitting of your ship was supposed to be part of the experience. Etc..

IMO the existence and popularity of tools like EDDB and Coriolis and the absence of these tools IG shows that a significant part of the playerbase simply picked the wrong game.

Finding a juicy trade route is boring as hell. What "fun" is there in finding a trade route so you can boringly fly back and forth. Oh I just don't know if I can take that much fun! :p

Can someone tell me what, in detail, the 3PD's are asking for? What do they think Frontier can offer? I don't understand.

I'm kind of amazed so many here claim these tools are indispensable or that the game is unplayable without them.

I think I must be playing another Elite Dangerous, as I'm doing just fine without them, and have been since original beta - when there were no such tools.

I hate to say it, but the approach being taken leaves a very bad taste in the mouth, timed and co-ordinated to hurt another community event. You claim to support the game and community, and then go out of your way to damage a large community-led event.

The hypocrisy is a bit too much to stomach tbh, and you should be ashamed of yourselves.

...As much as I love the guys who make these tools, they are acting like prima-donnas here. They can damn well get in line with the rest of us who WANT things.

Seconded.

I'm lost in space without EDSM, Coriolis, Inara and EDDB. Hope everything works out soon. I and many others use these tools constantly when playing ED. I didn't use any of them for the first year of play but they add so much to the game. At least ED Market Connector still seems to be working and sending data to EDSM but until this is resolved I won't be able to look at my flight logs on EDSM.

Wow? Are there in game tools for trading? Never found them...
Did you miss how the refineries say they trade with mining stations, then you look and find out the prices are opposite of what you expect, so that the consumer will sell it at lower prices than the producer of said good?

Then just run your trade in reverse. Just like when your bank calls you up and say "its a good time for you as a customer to pin the interrest rates" days before it goes down nationwide. =)
