3rd party

Pleases frontier we rely on these guys to give us the data you don't, this is going to frustrate everyone trying to play this game

I wouldn't have been able to make any sort of start in this game without these tools.

FD you need to pull your finger out here, you are way behind the curve on what other developers offer their 3rd party devs.

Good luck with getting the support you deserve. The great collection of third-party tools in the Elite community play an essential role in making the game what it is.

For what it's worth, I doubt I'll be playing nearly as much as usual over the next few days.

Really hope you guys get the support you are looking for. These third party tools are critical to many users enjoyment and are what encouraged me to come back to the game after some time. To hear that they aren't being supported at all by FD is very disappointing.

LOL. Man, there is always one who takes things to the extreme.

Maybe its time for you to move on and find another game to play?

I gotta say that Im seriously wanting to put you onto my ignore list right about now. And before ye repeat the same rhetoric to me, I already have ^

I've been playing Elite: Dangerous for over two years now, through the initial release of Wings and Powerplay, and I find these sites absolutely essential. It's ironic actually that they are down this weekend, when an important in-game event is happening around the new Elite novel. I was planning to use these tools not only to refine ship builds for the event, but to find staging posts, bases, outfitting, and so on.

I would call out eddb, Inara, Coriolis and Shipyard as sites that I use daily. Elite simply isn't playable without them. That is to say, of course it's playable, but it would be horribly inefficient and I likely wouldn't bother. In-game tools are weak; I believe it's a Frontier strategy to allow the game to be augmented with third-party tools -- a strategy that I support, I think it makes sense -- but for Frontier to fail to really support those third-party tools makes no sense.

I fully support these tool makers' in their action to call attention to this issue, despite it hampering my in-game play this weekend.

As someone who loves the game and makes extensive use of a number of the amazing third party tools, I'd like to see this resolved amicably - it does sound like FD have been making life hard for the 3rd parties, which I expect is unintentional, but nonetheless frustrating. FD, please understand that these tools add a huge amount of depth and missing content/functionality to the game, and I would certainly like to see a bit more love for their authors.

Adulting leaves me with very little gaming time. I would certainly stop investing in ED without the 3rd party tools, which I use frequently and make the experience far less frustrating and repetitive. Thanks for all your hard work folks. Some of us need the help and appreciate what you do.

Frontier needs to see this as a wake up call.
Not listening to the community and on top of the that the release for 2.3 was big failure bugs on the PC and the console version.

You guys have my full support !

The difference is, we've given FD money.

The website developers were doing it all for free. (actually at a cost to themselves)

Not sure about you but I donate to any tool like this I use :) I know it is not much but if only everyone donated something...

Anyways good luck with the protest, you are doing a great job and I hope FD will listen.

A fair point.

Pick a time when the dev's are busy sorting out update issues, and with a well-publicised event in the immediate future, and then make demands which they must know there is no likelihood of anybody being free to respond to in a timely manner.

Real classy. [sour]

Timing is never right: FD is always "on the edge of breaking a new release" or "still heavily under dope from their current release" or "busy with planning, holding or evaluating a big event"; all excuses, they are just always busy. So, to make that an argument is plain lame. Where is you real argument to agree with Paroxsym when he stated the timing of this action is childish? I could easily make the same statement and say that holding an event without involvement of the 3rd party toolers is childish of FD...

It makes the 3rd party toolers look bad, just because they did not get the time or tools to properly prepare...

So what? You're going to tell us getting paid was their motivation all along? Let's face it: these kinds of endeavors are passion projects where you do it for love of the creation and nothing more. You want money go start your own videogame development company or buy a seamless raingutter machine.

@OP and associates. Good luck folks. Your sites are an invaluable tool that enhances the ED experience and fills the information gaps that FD refuse to address in game.

Frontier, as a fellow game dev, supporting your community third party developer is essential to fostering a healthy and strong circle of supporters. The efforts invested is well worth the return in a loyal and dedicated community that can only attract, build and maintain a gamer audience.

As a relatively new player of ED, these tools help me tremendously to navigate the staggering array of choices in your game. These tools have greatly enhanced my game play experience and honestly, I don't know if I would of enjoyed ED as much as I do without them.

Look at all the other games that foster third party development, whether it be tools or community generated content. Space Engineers, Kerbal Space Program, Team Fortress. They have all done superbly well with a healthy and thriving community due to no small part with support from their respective dev teams.

Please consider supporting them. They aren't asking for much from a development standpoint and the return is incalculable to the overall quality of life of your player base.

I can honestly say that without the third party tools, my playtime of 5+ weeks would be more like 4 hours. They are the Rosetta Stone for so much activity in Elite, because most of us don't need this to be our day job to "figure everything out." I'm sure some of you prefer it that way, and that's fine, but a large number of us use these tools to make the game enjoyable for ourselves.

I wholehearted agree with the 3P developers. FD must make supporting them "official" business.
