THE FORMIDINE RIFT MYSTERY (Part 4)

Then why your build includes:
Hardpoints:
2X Frag Cannon (M) (G) G5 Lightweight 1X Drag Munitions
1X Beam Laser (M) (G) G5 Lightweight 1X Regeneration Sequence

Seriously. For all explorers, rifters and whatever beings out there (who don't read the discord-channel):

The PAC has declared the region a Gun-Free-Zone. Anyone with guns will be considered a possible threat (as we all know, the story of the Galaxy is rich in betrayal, murder and assassinations). Yes, there are a few CMDRs at discord, who are maybe slightly exaggerating their pvp-skillz. But if you turn up in the area, carrying guns without being on the whitelist the following will happen:

scouts will spot you, and report you up the command chain as possible threat.

You will then be
a) chain-interdicted by the fast builds (read: you will be chasing the escape-vector for the whole event)
or
b) jumped by complete wing opening up with plasmas, rails, and whatnot. Think CG-gank, but in 'serious'. SO even If you rate your pvp-skillz as en-par with the skillset of the defenders ... It will be not enough too survive a 4vs1 engagement, right?
or
c) you will enjoy the possibilities a) and b)

Additionally, there will be no comms-activity during the whole process. You will not be able to explain yourself. The 'Thing' will be fast moving, and "Ain't nobody got time for that!" So seriously: If you do not plan to shoot at the VIPs, don't bring guns. Except if you are on a whitelist, or a well known white-hat - your chances are slim to ejoy the event.

Yes, I do know, the noises the pvp-crowd tends to make when boasting with their abilities are sometimes slightly irritating. But believe me: the no guns directive is probably the only way for slimming down the chances of some assailant/traitor/whatnot killing one of the VIPs from point-blank range. I don't have a better Idea, and I haven't heard of a better Idea.

TL;TR: If you want to attend the event as visitor, come UNARMED. At least the pro VIP-Side will very likely not open up on you. The opponents probably will, for blowing of steam due to their frustration. Bring Heat sinks, and some decent shields (if you pop a Heatsink when >2km out the attacker will likely lose target-lock, giving you time FSD-Out).

And to be extra clear: anything fitted in a hardpoint is considered a gun. So: no healing lasers, no mines, no missiles, no anything.

And spread the word along your friends: NO GUNS
Always remeber: Friends don't let their friends bring guns to the event!

I'm going to try and help the outlaws, but I'm not part of any big group effort. I will have weapons for my own protection. One sure fire way to make me want to switch sides would be to chain interdict me out of paranoia. That would be very annoying to say the least. Ok I wont hinder the outlaws directly, but you better hope your ship is pretty damn quick if you interdict me. I bet im not the only one that would not appreciate the gesture. Not trying to tell any player groups how to run their show, but if you want to make enemies fast you are going the right way about it. I get you are trying to play it safe in what is shaping up to be a fairly chaotic event, but do try and remember that there are other people who want to participate that aren't part of the player groups or discord channels. As a general rule of thumb in the galaxy: interdiction = hostile intentions. If someone repeatedly interdicts and runs = some may consider that griefing. Should probably make your lackeys aware in case they did not know that they are being ordered to do something that some may perceive as griefing.

Just my opinion of course.

Edit: Also, you can take my guns over my void-frozen corpse. Who are you people to declare a "gun-free zone" anywhere? Good luck enforcing that one [haha]

I wonder how they would take to finding that whilst they were busy protecting some fugitives, their home bases suddenly fried itself and were rendered dead like Robigo for a considerable period of time.

I'm not threatened, I just don't want to accidentally get into the same instance as these people. I'd feel sullied.

Oh, I hope I do.. worst case scenario I get blown up and lose thruppence ha'penny and probably respawn nearer to where the chase is going. Best case I run rings round them and make them look silly - I'll be laughing either way.
Be carefull though as Zaphod Beeblebrox once said -

“I’m a pretty dangerous dude when I’m cornered.”
“Yeah,” said the voice from under the table, “you go to pieces so fast people get hit by the shrapnel.”

It's not griefing (or terrorism) if you're doing it for Salome.
Didn't CoR 'declassify' that rule yet?

That does sound kinda fun. :) The ship rebuy is 470kCr, not even worth yelping about. That said, if FDev decides to slow things down a bit and drops a flower ship on us, all of you without guns will be sad puppies.

This is "Elite: Dangerous", not "Elite: Funny"

To be fair, i don't blame them - they are trying to influence an ending to a good book and interact with their favorite character. So security must be tight. I just think they are rather limiting themselves, in case of surprises, but they probably know more than i do about what's coming and not coming.

@Drew

I'm assuming that this ^ isn't what you had in mind when you planned the event - a bunch of self-selecting 'experts' who are so desperate to 'win' that they assign themselves and their buddies the role of 'heroic protectors' while consigning everyone else to the buckets marked 'cannon fodder' and 'target'.

No guns and no comms -> no roleplay and no community -> no reason to get involved.

Pretty much this.

I expected to be interdicted while I was there, but this is nuts.

I shudder to think all the unwitting independent pilots that will be there to help Salome (or just observe), that will be slaughtered by an organized group of people on the same side, who can't be bothered to at least try comms to work out iff.

I participated in one of the Discord-organized practice events, and I'm gonna try to help with the coordinated effort on the 29th, so I suppose I'm one of the lackeys. ;)

But if I interdict you for any reason, feel free to shoot me! Or curse me, or return my salute, or whatever comes naturally and helps you enjoy the event. We all know that most of us will not see any of the VIPs, so the sum of all the little player interactions IS the event of the 29th. You should feel welcome to come play in any form, so please ignore the Serious Voices that suggest otherwise.

Drew set the stakes a little high by letting this event play such an outsized part in the ending to his story. And the PvP role is an awkward fit for independent explorers that have embraced his lore. But darned if it isn't making me try new things that I enjoy more than I ever expected. How are VIP escort missions not a thing in this game? I'm gonna have to try some Hutton Trucker convoy events after this. :D

or b) spend the entire time in a starport reading the rebuy screen. While you remove your weapons, might as well rename your ship Sharkbait while you're at it.

I'm sorry I must have missed the memo. Who died and left PAC king of the galaxy? Declare an entire "region" whatever that is, as a gun free zone? Except for them of course. Only They are allowed to have any role in protecting the VIPs? Is PAC trying to make the event as unpleasant as possible?

They probably think having a bunch of unarmed muppets flying around will keep some gankers busy. Might be right about that.

Their downfall will be in believing their own shtick and missing the real threats. Like how many people are on their "whitelist" who are really working for the other side? Would you like some names? PAC will end up wasting time chasing down people who either don't submit to their presumed authority, or didn't get the memo either.

I'm honestly glad that you've found something new you enjoy and I hope you have fun on the 29th.

However, I should point out that organized PvP events weren't exactly hard to find before now :)

Sadly, it really does look like I'm not going to be able to participate, despite making quite an effort to free up the time slot. There is still a slight chance, however, unlikely.

Enjoy ladies and gents, I hope to hear all about it the the next day, and I truly hope it is played through with minimal issues and bugs.

Z...

Well that sucked. Moving my long range Asp close to 46 Eridani system so when I die I will have a choice between my lower jump range iEagle and the Asp. Docking computer takes over I move the throttle out of the way for better keyboard access and the ship suffers a major control malfunction (in other words the cable from my x52 pro throttle to joystick comes loose). So in the middle of the station random control impulses turn off flight assist, deploys weapons and fires randomly into the station interior. I got the cable back in tight but didn't even try for the slot it was too late, rebuy screen.

Well I hope everyone is prepped for Saturday whichever side your on.

As you may or not know I've been following the rift mystery for a year and was asked to set up Sap Core's Black Net Squadron dealing in Mystery and Aliens etc.

As it has turned out this has gone beyond mystery and lead us directly into what Sap Core as a whole is about and the reason why people join our group.

Here is our 'mission statement -

" *******************
Greetings Commander,

If we are having this conversation, you no doubt have something to hide. And here in the Alliance, we have offered new beginnings. Whether you did something dirty for the Federation, heavy guilt laden Imperial woes, maybe someone hates you enough that you don't want to be found.... a clean slate. You may end your days mining our beautiful blood moon...... or be part of something greater. Give back what you have taken. Here at Sap core, we do what must be done, no questions asked. We will keep our part of the galaxy clean, no matter the cost. So others may have the peace that we all dream of but can never grasp. We only ask one thing, full disclosure.

Let our secrets be your secrets.

************************

Welcome to the first official Alliance Group on Xbox one. Come be part of a great community of brothers in arms, willing to maintain the only true voice of democracy left in the cosmos. The People deserve the right to speak truly and maintain their individual rights and cultures, to the true continuity of peace and prosperity. We are a bruised and batter peoples, but still we stand on our feet to maintain our freedoms taken back from the never ending struggles between the Federation expansionists and Imperial agendas. We vow never to fall to imperial slavery, and never give what was rightly ours to the Federation vaults. "

So as it happened this started as a Black Net mission but it has now turned into a fully blown Sap Core mission which is why we were prepared to offer serious creds for the protection of an important witness.

It's now become bigger than individual players or groups as the Galaxy's fleets ready themselves.

We will have a lot of wings for the event as the Salomé fever has got people back in game after they went awol for months.

Whatever happens on Saturday it will be a very interesting event and a first for the game.

As a little extra incentive if you find and kill me I'll reward you with 40m creds. ( I can't see this happening )

Evaldo10 in game on Xbox.

I'm mainly coordinating in my Ninja stealth FDL so I won't be visible but I may flash my lights now and then. ( Ps killing me in a fighter doesn't count as I will be taking over people's fighters a lot ).

Good luck to everyone on Saturday and have fun in Open. Remember don't fly without a rebuy.

Oh, this must be one of those PvP threads I've heard so much about. Scary stuff going on here in the bubble. Need to go back to where even the USSs get rare.

*withdraws silently and softly closes the door again*

@DrewC: see you at that bar.

Instead, you can find me at that bar in Persephone (you know the one), feet up and watching the show. If you're in the area, the Anlian gins are on me.

Excuse me, Sir. What ? At the bar when you are supposed to be riding the stars searching for the FR Mystery ???
Maybe you believe that Raxxla will show out by herself ?
Anlian Gin ... aw ... It's Anlian Gin which erased Rebecca's brain.
Not a supposed shadow organisation. Drunkard's excuse !
