The full game planned for Q4 2014

The standard beta is released on July 29. The anniversary of Elite is the end of September. The Gamma will be released for the anniversary ? It seems likely. The retail version would be released a little before the Christmas season (Q4 2014) ? Other speculations ?

I managed to corner Michael Brookes at Lavecon and asked him about this.

Basically he thought that the anniversary was too soon for a full release, and that it would probably be this year. I know, not definitive but was great fun talking to him :)

The only other thing I pushed him for an answer on was how much more galaxy will we have for the upcoming beta, he was really tight on this but after some arm twisting and threats of atomic wedgies he did say "significantly more". Read into that what you will...

Have to say, what a nice guy who obviously loves his job. Our short conversation was pretty much him coming over for a chat with the EDTracker guys and then just turning to me in the most friendly and approachable way.

"significantly more"

i think he said "significantly larger" in the lave radio recording of lavecon Q&A.

another 200 cubic light year ? xD

errr .... 3 more? i hope at least 20 more but let's wait and see, could be much more than that, i doubt it could be less.

I bet it will be the full galaxy. They've said it is technically already there, we are just limited to these few systems. The very reason for that limit might be the current absence of any fuel mechanic limiting how far we can travel, which would exploration completely trivial at the moment. Since B1 will add fuel, it could open up the entire galaxy once and for all.:)

The game will come when its finished and iam sure they wont release a game that don't fullfill Mr. Brabens visions. Let it be end of this year or next year.
iam sure we have the patience to wait for it.

we have been waiting 30 years for a sequel.

I reckon the Q4 release is the gamma, not the commercial (i.e. retail) release...

Be the first to get your hands on the full game!

Pre-order Elite: Dangerous to have a download of the game available as soon as its released! Elite: Dangerous will be available once the Standard Beta phase is completed.

I don't think that there's much chance of Michael openly telling a group of fans what the companies release plans are without first getting the ok from his boss David. If he did this then there would be very little chance of him getting that pay rise that he mentioned at lavecon ;)

I can't find the link but I seen to remember seeing a thread on here saying that the number of systems we can travel to in the next beta will be increased to 50. I've no idea if this has been officially confirmed or if its just speculation though.

A full galaxy wouldn't make sense. A full galaxy needs all major game systems working, which means exploration, full trade system going, faction AI at full capacity so that it can follow up player pioneers into new systems etc. Not to mention whatever surprises they are planning to plant in there for us to find.

So first they would have to test out faction dynamics and full economy, so my bet would be that faction-occupied space will be made available sometime during the beta/gamma stages. Initially I am expecting anywhere up to 100 systems for standard beta though - we need leg room so we can miscalculate fuel costs and get stranded in deep space. ;)

Or it could be a much smaller number, if they want to stress-test the instancing system by cramming as many players as possible into a relatively small bubble of space. Depends what they want to test really - it is after all a beta.

I hope we get to see some blue/white stars in next Beta.

Is Sigma Bootis nearest to the current bubble or have i missed something closer?

but they also said that it would be opened up in stages ... Edit : ...

We'll need to test the wider galaxy before gamma, but we'll likely do it in stages.

except for lavecon i aint see anything about that. 50 would be "enough" though.

maybe 20-60 systems

anyway I dont think the speed of which earth rotates around the sun should dictate a release date for elite..

So what is being added in B1?

I heard rumours in the /vg/ SC general that ship customisation such as engines, shields, etc is being added. At least to some extent.

Newsletter 31 states q4 2014 for full game release. Not much to speculate on there...yes its just the planned but if the game is ready thats when it will be released. I am confident that unless they run into something major it will follow that release schedule as FD has already surpassed expectations on a regular basis.

I believe this as well. In fact, I believe "gamma" and "commercial release" are the same thing. The way I understood gamma should be content complete anyway, and I honestly can't see how they could pull it for September... very glad if I'm mistaken though
