THE FORMIDINE RIFT MYSTERY (Part 4)

I don't get the angst about player behavior, humans are what they are, they'll behave in whatever fashion suits them, some of them have free will to pretend they have something resembling authority and everyone else has the free will do ignore them. So if you want to be involved just go get involved, friend Salome, follow her and do what you want.

The Feds have cap ships so in game presumably they're an authority yet we as players regularly blow their ships to dust, so why on earth would we pretend that RL humans who are fictional in the game world (Salome is real in the game world, fictional in the RL world) have any authority.

In all of this, it's important to remember that it's the players who are the reason that the event is becoming increasingly unappealing to some of us.
Drew and FDev have done what they can, within the constraints of the game mechanics, to allow us players to influence both the future direction of the game and the novel that goes alongside it.
This is something that hasn't ever been attempted before [citation needed], so I think they deserve credit for taking a risk and making the attempt.
Either the event will go well, and people will have fun, or it won't - either way, FDev will learn something from it and the next event will be (even) better.

I've already thanked Drew and FDev in a previous post, but in addition, I'd like to thank my fellow Rift explorers and theorycrafters.
Remember, FDev had dropped the Rift storyline and I doubt very much that they would have resurrected it if there hadn't been 3 huge, multipage threads showing that there was still player interest in the mystery.
So, success or disaster, exciting or boring, WE made this happen, and we should be proud of that..

I finally can rep you again.
I've been following Drew's work since I started playing Oolite and I really wish him the best of luck for the upcoming event.

And i want to thank you all for this. This mystery, and the dedication people showed for it, made me work hard to get out there once i can. I did not even know what it was about and still wanted to help. I got the audio-book Reclamation just days before the Prism-CG hit, so i worked hard for it, just to get involved. And then, when i go out to get serious to help in the Rift, the Zurara is found 3 days later. Sometimes you just have bad timing. :D

Yep, based on the recent announcements, I would say PAC have, regardless of intentions, outright declared themselves as organised gankers.

I'm wondering this too, aside from helping those wanting to multicrew choose a side.

What would actually be more helpful is if tomorrow, we could choose something in the "Faction" setting like you do in a combat zone.

If almost all participants are banned from equipping weapons, on pain of "violent unscheduled disassembly", then we can use multicrew to observe interdictions, followed by rapid retreats.

Wow... I thought it was a joke
But what does this mean in practice?

It allows someone to join your ship, so if you are one of the pre-approved chosen few who are part of the pro- or anti- Salomé faction "heavy lifting" wings, assuming they use it, it theoretically increases the number of folks that should be able to get into the instances with the actual main characters. If the networking doesn't explode first. Or if you are there on your own and manage to get into an instance, you could use it to have some spectators tag along (or fire your turret, if you have one and haven't been ganked by the PAC or other Salomé Defence Genocide Wings first)

I know. It's as if PAC haven't considered the possibility that only interdictors and enemies might end up instancing with the VIPs... and that their PvPers can't get into that instance. :D

Except that their "pre-approved PvPers" will all be in wings, and therefore not able to take on crew!

Good point, forgot that! Even their scouts are in wings. Maybe they have started assigning us low-life independents to fly designated buses for spectators? Without weapons of course.

Out of rep, as usual, but this, +1. And kudos to Drew and Erimus for making it happen.

Anyone with weapons is not trusted, unless part of the inner circle. If not part of inner circle, die.

Anyone not trusted, without weapons, must fly small unarmed ships. They may then interdict any other ships, armed and large or small... and run away or die.

That's what it boils down to, unless you multicrew, and then you can watch someone else die or run away.

Maybe the VIP's will multicrew and not wing up? You just might get front row seats.

Well.. you get to fire someone else's heat sink launcher, if they're still allowed to carry one.
It's something.
