THE FORMIDINE RIFT MYSTERY (Part 4)

I can't see Drew making this into an interesting book finish. The whole PAC (Puppies Are Cute?) plan sounds boring.

Drew created Salome's story, but it is the players who are deciding how it will play out, and our PAC actions will determine how it'll end.

If it's boring in game, it'll be on Drew to turn into something interesting for the book.

Personally, I hope they all get EMP'd to a standstill by the flower ships, then wiped out, because it'll make for a more palatable and interesting ending.

Or maybe taken away for some invasive alien experimentation. That might be a different book though.

Yes it'll be interesting to see how he's going to spin being guarded by a bunch of trigger happy, muder-hobo, vigilantes into something positive. Looks like my character was right and she really is the villain of this story.

To all commanders that take part in today's event: Good luck and have much fun!
(Please try to preserve the Rift-related kowledge that Salmoé has)

Ha ha ha. I just realized.

The event has already started. Maestro Wager is the conductor, and to some extent we are all part of the orchestra.

Orchestra's can be a bit fickle though ;)

Certainly is not the most diverse moral landscape to build a story on, when the cure for ganking is,,,ganking and all the interesting aspects brought by independant players is squashed out of fear. Dude may as well give up and write a 40k war fetish book, that's what this will basically turn into :( "ego-pew, ego-pew, ego-pew".

I have asked the discord to reign things in a bit. Can't crit the passion, but I do not want anyone to feel alienated.

If you fly a shieldless sidewinder or a modded corvette, you're welcome. Right on, Commanders.

Cheers,

Drew.

Good on you. Their attitude was not going to make this a fun event regardless of which side you're on.

Honestly ... considering the sheer number of people who will be online and in-game at the same time ... it will be a shame if Frontier doesn't drop some kind of big surprise on us. It would certainly quell some of the criticism that Frontier's content is only experienced by a limited number of players and then everyone else just watches it on YouTube.

I have my fingers crossed that the Guardians make an appearance.

Taunt her for her dark hair. The freak.

KABLAM!!!

If Salome doesn't show up for the event, we now know that she will be at the nearest hairdresser's getting EVERYTHING done to her hair!! [yesnod]

And have some Rep for being straight up :D

Oh and while we are at cheap jokes: The event will start 1.5 h later because Salomé needs that time to find the right dress for her mood today and fix her makeup and hairdo, then decide what color her accessories should have …

Thank you so much for this.
.
I am willing to accept when I sign up for an event that I might need to use a specific ship/loadout and have priorities assigned etc. - Distant Stars was equally demanding in its own way. I do not want to be asked to behave in a way that amounts to treating other players with disrespect. The number one rule for the event is not 'Salomé must live at any cost', it is 'have fun'. I look forward to meeting new people and having an enjoyable experience this evening, whether any of the protagonists survive or not.

Now if only people would talk, rather than shoot on sight. ;)

The Earth Defense Fleet's goal in all this is to protect Raan Corsen. We don't expect his hand-selected entourage to be too welcoming of our presence though. When I talk to our Wing-leaders later this morning I think I'm going to recommend a "catch and release" policy:

1. If you don't appear hostile we'll ignore you.
2. If you attempt to fly behind Raan Corsen we'll assume that you are attempting to interdict.
3. If we suspect you are attempting to interdict Corsen we'll attempt a preemptive interdiction against you.
4. Once you've been interdicted by us we'll attempt to mass lock you for as long as we can.
5. We will not fire unless fired upon or if you have been positively identified as a hostile.

Sound reasonable?

This is what it should be like also if you are a member of edf are you allowed to have your own ship and if its not quite up to spec do you rip commanders to shreds? I believe this is neccessary to take part

Indeed it does. If everyone could have this adult and level-headed about it, (almost) everybody would have been happy to take part.

Reflections after last night

Last night Raan Corson appeared in open and moved to the T-Tauri system. At the time I was doing a tour of the five Generation ships discovered so far, in my normal habitat of Mobius. I wondered if I should head down. When Salome has popped up previously, I have tagged along and there were a dozen or so others, and everyone followed Salome to see what was going on. Someone else on my friends list was heading to T-Tauri and was relaying a few things Raan was saying to me. Other than that the place seemed quiet, so I decided to head down in my exploration Asp I was in at the time.

Earlier I has fired off a slightly accusational message to a few friends I have in the CoR leadership, stating that I think they had made a mistake by adopting a closed policy. But I will come back to that later.

On arriving at T-Tauri there were plenty of Commanders, it did not take long to be interdicted. My attacker was the capable Harry Potter. Now I don't have a lot of PvP experience, but I do have some. I was able to keep my 150Mg shielded Asp alive long enough to high wake out, however it was badly damaged and breaking up due to heat build up, owing to having gone into silent running prior to high wake to buy myself a few more seconds. This kept me distracted when I should have been low waking right away and making distance. So my 13% hull did not last the second encounter.

No matter, it was expected. But I did show me one important point, which again I will come back to. I saw another a friend from Lave Radio heading to T-Tauri. I have him a warning. He found out anyway in short order.

Afterwards I went onto the 'Allied' discord. Not to complain, but just to listen. Potter it turns out is on the 'Allied' side and was part of the force doing FoF ID and attacking anyone who did not meet two criteria: either no weapons (although people where still asking "Can I attack") or on there white list. The set up was actually impressive. They were very much trying to look after the 'VIPs' as they call them. But, again it showd me a number of key points.

So what did I learn from this fact finding, and where does that leave me?

I mentioned I had vented somewhat at CoR leadership. Understandable I got some vent back. Frustration that people where calling Drew's even a CoR event. "CoR don't have any influence on there apart from passing on bits of info that Drew wants the other participants to know" Put simply CoR are involved because Drew asked them to be. And yes, they set up the 'Allied' discord, but that is where there control stops. People are also talking a lot about PAC. I don't even know who PAC are, but it is not just PAC. It is the whole channel. The security operation had all sorts of people in it. And therefore we see some important points about this event:

1. CoR are not in control. If they ever were, they have lost that control. In the words of one of those high ranking friends from CoR "To be honest, I'll be glad when all this is over"

2. The 'Allied' defences is in effect now a private security force who are imposing there own rules and destroying anyone who does not conform to their rules, simply because they can

3. There was much chat about not shooting ships with [CW] in there names. This is Cobra Wing. Apparently Raan's own escorts. Raan was also on the discord but not in chat. Now ran was a normal player, whether he has evolved into one of these special NPCs now I don't know, but by the fact that he there and is apparently going along with this behaviour, means he is complicit in it and is happy for Commanders who want to help to be destroyed because they won't follow the dictates of this private army. I used to be happy with the idea of protecting Raan. No longer.

4. Drew has given his message about trying to be inclusive. It's a nice sentiment, thanks Drew, but it will be utterly ignored. The discord is no longer about wanting to help Salome, it is about the pvp people and there private army. Yes they appear to be genuinely wanting the VIPs to survive, but if you don't play be there rules, you are not invited.

5. I don't know if the other VIPs are involved in the discord or not. Nor do I know if they will be winged with them. But given there protection is more than happy to destroy anyone who is not on there list, or agrees to be a weaponless sheep, unless they come out and state otherwise, I must conclude they are also complicit in this behaviour. Which leads me at ask, "why would I want to protect them anyway?"

6. This private army may have good intentions in there own minds, but like all such unregulated groups consider the law to be in there own hands. I listened to one commander in particular who was looking for any excuse to attack people. As I said even people unarmed, who fit there own rules of engagement "shall I attack him, he's not on the list". Some where offered a chance to disarm, other, like myself just attacked. So like some private security force in post was Iraq, they are making up the rules and they go along, simple as there is little you can do about it.

So there you have it. If you, like I may still do, plan to try and be involved and you, like me, won't agree to be a toothless sheep and relegated to a spectator, you will be attacked by Salome's and Raan's private security force. And whilst I would dearly love to be involved, as I love Drew's stuff, others are now in control, and you are not invited.

We've pretty much left it to each of our members to choose what kind of ship to bring. I'm taking my FAS which is certainly NOT a PvP build. I'm an Elite: Explorer not a Combateer.

I Ninja'd the first Formidine Rift thread a year ago last January after it had gone silent for over four months... and I've been active in these discussion ever since. Nobody has any right to shoo me away from this event. Or anyone else. They have the right to shoot me out of space but not the right to intimidate me or make my participation seem unwelcome.

I think the rifters are in danger of being muscled out of the event i first posted in the first fr thread as well and have followed closely ever sincei cant say ive been an active member but have spoken to salome in game (when she was in tionisla but it doesnt feel like they want everyday players involved (the community that is not drew/fdev)

That makes far too much sense as an approach. Can't you at least come up with something more controversial and excluding, or is that the secret part you are telling only the chosen few after prescreening and indoctrination is completed on them? ;-)
