THE FORMIDINE RIFT MYSTERY (Part 4)

I have asked the discord to reign things in a bit. Can't crit the passion, but I do not want anyone to feel alienated.

If you fly a shieldless sidewinder or a modded corvette, you're welcome. Right on, Commanders.

Cheers,

Drew.

Drew, thanks for the sentiment. But Salome and Raan private army don't care.

Thank you, Mr. Wagar. The things I'm seeing on other sites are a little... unfortunate to say the least.

I plan to be there, unaligned or otherwise. I will do my part. If people want to go nuts trying to be Seal Team Rick, they can go to town, but not all of us are going to be OK with that, at all.

And awaaaaay we go!

Potter it turns out is on the 'Allied' side and was part of the force doing FoF ID and attacking anyone who did not meet two criteria: either no weapons (although people where still asking "Can I attack") or on there white list.

So the gankers are running the show, as suspected. Sad. Nothing like putting the wolves in charge of the sheep. Be amusing to see if they turn on the VIPs at least.

Last night Raan Corson appeared in open and moved to the T-Tauri system. At the time I was doing a tour of the five Generation ships discovered so far, in my normal habitat of Mobius. I wondered if I should head down. When Salome has popped up previously, I have tagged along and there were a dozen or so others, and everyone followed Salome to see what was going on. Someone else on my friends list was heading to T-Tauri and was relaying a few things Raan was saying to me. Other than that the place seemed quiet, so I decided to head down in my exploration Asp I was in at the time.

Earlier I has fired off a slightly accusational message to a few friends I have in the CoR leadership, stating that I think they had made a mistake by adopting a closed policy. But I will come back to that later.

On arriving at T-Tauri there were plenty of Commanders, it did not take long to be interdicted. My attacker was the capable Harry Potter. Now I don't have a lot of PvP experience, but I do have some. I was able to keep my 150Mg shielded Asp alive long enough to high wake out, however it was badly damaged and breaking up due to heat build up, owing to having gone into silent running prior to high wake to buy myself a few more seconds. This kept me distracted when I should have been low waking right away and making distance. So my 13% hull did not last the second encounter.

No matter, it was expected. But I did show me one important point, which again I will come back to. I saw another a friend from Lave Radio heading to T-Tauri. I have him a warning. He found out anyway in short order.

Afterwards I went onto the 'Allied' discord. Not to complain, but just to listen. Potter it turns out is on the 'Allied' side and was part of the force doing FoF ID and attacking anyone who did not meet two criteria: either no weapons (although people where still asking "Can I attack") or on there white list. The set up was actually impressive. They were very much trying to look after the 'VIPs' as they call them. But, again it showd me a number of key points.

So what did I learn from this fact finding, and where does that leave me?

I mentioned I had vented somewhat at CoR leadership. Understandable I got some vent back. Frustration that people where calling Drew's even a CoR event. "CoR don't have any influence on there apart from passing on bits of info that Drew wants the other participants to know" Put simply CoR are involved because Drew asked them to be. And yes, they set up the 'Allied' discord, but that is where there control stops. People are also talking a lot about PAC. I don't even know who PAC are, but it is not just PAC. It is the whole channel. The security operation had all sorts of people in it. And therefore we see some important points about this event:

1. CoR are not in control. If they ever were, they have lost that control. In the words of one of those high ranking friends from CoR "To be honest, I'll be glad when all this is over"

2. The 'Allied' defences is in effect now a private security force who are imposing there own rules and destroying anyone who does not conform to their rules, simply because they can

3. There was much chat about not shooting ships with [CW] in there names. This is Cobra Wing. Apparently Raan's own escorts. Raan was also on the discord but not in chat. Now ran was a normal player, whether he has evolved into one of these special NPCs now I don't know, but by the fact that he there and is apparently going along with this behaviour, means he is complicit in it and is happy for Commanders who want to help to be destroyed because they won't follow the dictates of this private army. I used to be happy with the idea of protecting Raan. No longer.

4. Drew has given his message about trying to be inclusive. It's a nice sentiment, thanks Drew, but it will be utterly ignored. The discord is no longer about wanting to help Salome, it is about the pvp people and there private army. Yes they appear to be genuinely wanting the VIPs to survive, but if you don't play be there rules, you are not invited.

5. I don't know if the other VIPs are involved in the discord or not. Nor do I know if they will be winged with them. But given there protection is more than happy to destroy anyone who is not on there list, or agrees to be a weaponless sheep, unless they come out and state otherwise, I must conclude they are also complicit in this behaviour. Which leads me at ask, "why would I want to protect them anyway?"

So there you have it. If you, like I may still do, plan to try and be involved and you, like me, won't agree to be a toothless sheep and relegated to a spectator, you will be attacked by Salome's and Raan's private security force. And whilst I would dearly love to be involved, as I love Drew's stuff, others are now in control, and you are not invited.

Saool... that makes an interesting read, and your experience is a worrying one.

I recognise - and thank - Drew, for his statement about the discord, and I would love to think that it will make a difference, but I'm sceptical. There is a lot of passion involved, and in truth, there always is where Elite is concerned, but I think some are taking it a tad too seriously. Roleplay is fine, but I can't imagine that the characters involved in Drew's novel are the type that would attract sociopathic, murderous pilots who would KOS any armed ship without confirming intentions first. So... roleplay taken a step too far.

As I've said in previous posts, I'd love to take part, but I'm not a sheep, or a goat tethered to a stake. If we are to roleplay, let's play our roles, not have them defined for us.

Anyway, I'll be watching on one of the twitch streams later on, and that's as far I'll go, I suspect, unless there's a statement from one of the sociopathic groups that points out we won't be shot on sight for being armed.

@Drew, I really hope this does all play out in the way you envisaged it, when you came up with the concept, regardless of the fates of the key characters. I'll buy the book either way.

I posted this elsewhere but this was the response to drew

@everyone crying to Drew because we said your ship will be killed for x, y, z reason isn't going to change anything. If you don't follow the plan we carefully crafted for safety and security purposes, your ship will be blown up. And it will be your own fault. If you want to help, be helpful. Don't be proud and stubborn. That being said, everyone is welcome to join, we're all adults so we can make our own decisions. Just know that you reap the rewards of your decision. If that means a 65 mil cutter rebuy cuz you couldn't swallow your pride, so be it.

The Earth Defense Fleet's goal in all this is to protect Raan Corsen. We don't expect his hand-selected entourage to be too welcoming of our presence though. When I talk to our Wing-leaders later this morning I think I'm going to recommend a "catch and release" policy:

1. If you don't appear hostile we'll ignore you.
2. If you attempt to fly behind Raan Corsen we'll assume that you are attempting to interdict.
3. If we suspect you are attempting to interdict Corsen we'll attempt a preemptive interdiction against you.
4. Once you've been interdicted by us we'll attempt to mass lock you for as long as we can.
5. We will not fire unless fired upon or if you have been positively identified as a hostile.

Sound reasonable?

Yes

I don't think anyone is crying to Drew. Drew reads the forums, same as everyone else, and can see how some players are feeling.

You can't say everyone is welcome to join, when that isn't the case. Threatening to KOS anyone who turns up to help, because they're armed, isn't welcoming.

And I believe the response was something along the line of 'classic wife beater thinking'.

Or put another way "everyone is invited to take part. As long as you come unarmed and don't actually take part"

That's what you get if you sleep with the devil.

I almost feel sympathy for CoR.
This is going to be a PR nightmare for them. Tarnishing their, already not really good, reputation and cast a really bad shadow on Salomé and her intentions.

We are free explorers, nobody tells us what to do.
Truth!
Freedom!

My main concern is that this group was advertised in erimus and drews post as the place to go. fine if its a group dedicated to their own agenda but when you point Most of the community somewhere it does need to be more inclusive

Or the "Git Gud" mentality.
Or classic "victim blaming"
But that's going to much OT for my taste.

Anyway, I guess everybody already learned a lot from this event. If nobody tried it, we would never know. To be honest, the last few weeks have been a lot of fun for me. The events leading up to this date have been interesting and fun. All of it outside of the game, but a lot of entertaining comments and discussions.

Almost. For some of them, like Erimus. It's not like anyone couldn't have foreseen (in a Premonition even) that this is the way it would end up going down. But of course the control-freak PvPerz in CoR were no doubt drooling in anticipation of exactly this, and how they would be in charge of it all to micromanage it, so I have no sympathy for them at all.

I made a PSA, to avoid any violence today. :D

My premonition for today's event, fair or not, will be a Galnet breaking news story about a path of carnage ripped across the galaxy confirming that Salomè, CoR and their allies are nothing more than terrorists by their killing hundreds of innocent Cmdrs and enforcing their rules on the universe.

Actions speak and ganking innocents can't be interpreted as anything other than what it is.

Lets just be happy that in real life VIP security don't feel the need to kill anybody who comes into sight of their client. They seem to be able to do the job without such tactics even though they would work there too.

It's a sad day when this makes Patreus and co look like the good guys in only targeting what they class as criminals while those that want us to support them will kill you on sight unless you follow their orders.

Yes I know it's allies rather than the VIPs or even CoR, but those VIPs and CoR won't get my support unless they make a stand against this behaviour as silence is still supporting it happening and makes them culpable in my book.

I think that we will see something very much of the same as we did before.

Maybe this video shows exactly what I mean.

The point is that every time we tried to run a live event we ran into same problems, and not pointing fingers at FDEV here, it's just how things work.

I don't think those people exist.

As I indicated before, this is not a CoR event. They set up the 'Allied' discord, probably with the best of intentions. However others have come in and are running it now.
