Today's SALOME event - Can someone sum it up pls.

Well, in some sense it would make a fitting book about the immensely logical world of Elite: Dangerous: “On this day the supporters of Salome declared across the galaxy that they will murder any member of the Pilots' Federation who is not in their group and who is flying a ship with weapons. This announcement was met with much salt and confusion for everyone in the galaxy has always been flying a ship with weapons, and most pilots had no idea who Salome was or where this group of apparent lunatics suddenly came from. Meanwhile another group insisted that they will kill Salome and also any of her supporters, especially ones identified by lack of weapons on their ships. In the end a lot of ships got blown up, mostly for no reason at all, and there was some more salt and confusion. Then the event ended and no-one still knows who Salome is or what it was all about."

So, if someone who doesn't care about this event happens to fly around in their usual ship, the supposedly "good guys" are going to gank them under the assumption that they must be an enemy? That doesn't even make any sense roleplay-wise (which I kind of thought this event was supposed to be about), since all the armed NPC ships should also be shot down. Mass-murder day across the galaxy!

If you can tell me how to distinguish a CMDR flying around accidentally in one of the critical systems during the critical period from a CMDR flying around in one of the critical systems during the critical period with the purpose of stopping Salomé and cashing in on the bounty before they have actually shot her down, please do so.

Personally, I would suppose simply stopping (i.e. interdicting) them and keeping them out of SC for the few critical minutes would be sufficient, but I bet even this suggestion will provoke a cry of outrage.

What's wrong with your suggestion? Isn't it far more logical in-character, too, that Salome's supporters don't go around murdering everyone just because they might be out to get the largely insignificant 5M(?) bounty on some neverheard person?

I saw her log in for a few minutes, in a PG, then log off. That was pretty much my entire involvement in this ordeal. I wish I could help but I have to adult today. I have a feeling she would survive this, so many players wanting to be the one to take her out. I hope she survives though. Good luck to everyone protecting her.

To those who aren't, you can stick it where the stars don't shine! lol

Just curious but will the part of Salome be played by one of FDev?

What I mean is will it be an NPC or will there be a human behind the controls....that might make a huge difference.

With respect, that's not my problem. It's yours (collective "you" referring to the group in question).

What you've effectively done is say "We don't care which side you're on. If you didn't sign up with our clique you're the enemy." You've chosen to somehow "claim" one side of a supposed community event for your group, taking participation on that side away from players otherwise inclined to join in.

If that wasn't your intent, your RoE are badly designed and they need modifying. As they stand, you've got allies who won't be there because you took this approach and you've ruined the event for anyone who isn't part of your clique but wanted to be there on the same side you're on. You've turned a community event into an epeen waving contest for your group and there's cmdrs out there, myself included, that want no part of that.

ETA: This has become the "poster event" for why FD should never introduce in-game support for clans/fleets/corps/guilds.

Why cant people just be absurdly fanatical about Salome, either for or against? I dont see anything wrong against RP'ing a bunch of devout zealots, kinda fits even in the lore. If you're gonna back out from everything someone is being zealous about you wont be part of anything...

From my point of view - nothing of course ;)
And given the numbers as far as I know them by now (and the discord in the Discord this morning, haven't checked for the last 5 hours), this is probably how it may play out.

The risk still stands, though - there are some very experienced PvP players on either side, and the safest way to survive this will be the ability to run anway fast and not get tempted into shooting anybody (or -thing, should it come to that).

Fair point, and I'm honestly not going that far - it isn't the zealotry that's the issue. It's commandeering their side of the event, a bunch of kindergarten bullies saying nobody else is allowed in the sandbox at recess. That's why I'm bowing out. I've got plenty of sand to play with elsewhere and I can't be bothered scrapping with the snotty and zitty kid that thinks he owns that part of the playground.

Will this be streamed live?

Yes, the following streamers will be covering the event:
CMDR DJTruthSayer
CMDR Hughmann
CMDR Malic
CMDR Selezen
CMDR Nicou (Eng Français)
CMDR Rithwald
CMDR Natsu Dragneelx (Germany)

Where abouts are you as I have a spare PC (Nottingham) and enough deskspace and band width for two to play.

Forgot to say it depends on if you are defending or bounty hunting !

Hmmm.... have you ever participated in a CZ CG? I tried to avoid them so far, but the few times I was there, it was either kill or get killed. And I learned that, if I approach a CZ CG in open, I will be interdicted and at the very least questioned by CMDRs supporting either side. If I enter the CZ in open, I will have to face enemy CMDRs. If you want to play this as a community event - it is a large combat zone.

As for the clique: on my last count (5 hours ago), that clique had ~2000 CMDRs. Almost all of which will run exactly the same risk of being shot down as anyone else if they are found to carry weapons. You never know who is going to go traitor for a measley 5 MCr (and probably a stab in the back from Patreus himself). And joining that clique is easy - the links are there in both the (now) official thread and on Drew's site.

Yes, the approach has some very strong resemblance to the old "Kill them all. Let God sort them out."

Yep, I have. Turned in enough bonds to be mid-tier, got blown up a lot. It's all good. But what you;re doing here is different. I wanted to come along and shoot your enemies, fight by your side. You're saying I can't unless I join up to your group. Furthermore, you're saying if the group doesn't recognize me as a "PvP pilot" then even if I'm in the group I can't bring my guns to the fight. void fork( that);

That sir is a very kind offer...have some rep.

Unfortunately I'm unable to take you up on it for a large number of reasons, distance and other commitments (i.e. looking after my children) being the main ones, but I thank you none the less.

Have fun at the event!

Especially PS4 and XBox players aren't the type of players who want to solve endless riddles. That's a big player group and they loose interest in the game pretty quickly.

I'm an Xbox player and you certainly don't talk for me. By making these sweeping and completely false statements it shows just how obviously ignorant you are. I hate to break it to you, as you seem to dislike this game so much, but there are many Xbox players that love Elite as it's something different from the modern trend of boring 'hand holding' games where you get to be the hero all day long. It also requires intelligence and imagination to get the most enjoyment from it, so I can see why your struggling.
