THE FORMIDINE RIFT MYSTERY (Part 4)

Yeah, remind me not to bother with the next 'event'...

I think you maybe wrongly assuming that there was a boolean outcome. Any make it vs none make it. It's entirely possible and in fact likely in my opinion that there were multiple possible outcomes each with their own triggers. At the very least 3: All die, Salome lives, Salome dies but others make it. Salome may not have imparted everything she knew to the other 3 and her death meant one extra set of clues passed through the other 3 to get back to the case of her making it.

For me the hunt is the most fun, I don't want to just read a Galnet article and race to a system with 1000 other people and click the scanner. So regardless of what my character may or may not have wanted the RL me views Salome dying and others living as the best possible outcome because it inserts yet another stage in clues.

Here's what I saw while you guys were interdicting me:

Looks like the interediction bug here. Is that the same thing you could see before?

There is another artifact of interdiciton which is like a transparent ripple effect that appears on screen somewhat like a heat haze, it can be full screen (large swathes of the borders) or localised (smaller effect), just like how the interditcion bug circle can appear at different sizes and orientations. That is what he is seeing.

Maybe Drew's a bit salty himself? He invested a lot of time into Kahina.

If he wanted Salomé to survive he would have take people of her friends list, as this did not happend her chances were extremely slim, and I'm sure he was aware. I'm sure it was more about to see how we players can go about it and influence the story, rather than trying to save her. We were experimented upon :)

Back to the regularly scheduled program.

We know what: the mega-ship in the rift
We know why: Plan B for the rich and powerful incase of an alien invasion
We know how: The cold war between the superpowers is a decoy for building massive fleets of warships and to get resources for the preparation, 3 different locations for an exodus

We don't know who is responsible for all this.

We don't know why "they" didn't try to stop the revelation of those Dynasty exodus plan ships settlement thingies. Apparently a few decades ago even knowing about Dynastiy would have killed or hexedited you in no time.
Now "they" seem to "don't care".

Is this good or bad.

Is it just because the organizers of this Dynasty exodus plan got all the money they wanted and everybody involved realized that it was a really stupid plan.
OR
Is it because it doesn't matter anymore. The Dynasty plan didn't work out (apparently), the FSD technology allows humanity to find and go to habitable planets in a short period of time and a lot of ELWs have been found in the recent years. The threat is so close, that silencing anybody who knows about the Dynasty plans is just a wast of resources.

Again, who is responsible and does it matter?

I know, there seems to be no riddle and the lack of greek mythology is deafening - but that's all we got.

Keep searching!
Let's find out!
Keep calm!
Be motivated!

Rebecca's Logs in Teorge play on the idea that those who are doing the silencing might no longer be doing it, because there's no point in trying to cover up the Aliens anymore. See here, on Log #7: "Could be they have let you found this message. Maybe the time is right at last. Maybe there is nothing left to hide anymore. I don't know if I've played them, or they've played me"

I think this is a good pointer at what might be coming in the future. The Dynasty plan didn't really work out well, given that there are logs from ships sent out as part of Dynasty that reported seeing things in Witch-Space, and one report (From the Rift) of seeing the Aliens themselves on the sensors. I find it hard to believe that Dynasty was designed to find places humanity could run, whilst running headlong into Aliens along the way.

Also, I still think Sirius is behind it.

There's really nothing to go on right now though. No indication of anything left in the Rift to discover. No indication if there is even anything in the Gap and Conflux. We're completely blind until we get the next breadcrumb. I mean if you want to go out and scour the rift for signs of something, more power to you, but you don't need a thread to say I'm out searching for a needle that may or may not be there in a colossal haystack. This isn't a criticism of anyone's judgment or anything, just kind of miffed that we don't have any leads we can follow.

I think the next steps are to continue along the R.R. Line and keep searching out that way, if there was any ships that went out further than the Zurara. There may also be other Mega-Ships in the Gap, and Conflux, and we should use the positioning of the Zurara relative to the Formidine Rift settlements as a pointer of where these megaships may or may not be. It might be a wild goose chase, though.

Secondly, there's the Bubble itself. I think it might be worth investigating the factions that are involved. Sirius, INRA, etc. Sirius I think is the best candidate right now based on our findings so far.

So here is a question: is there anything left in the Rift to search for?

I mean, we've found the Zurara, we know about the Dynasty Expedition, we've located the beacons and base camps and now we know what they were for, have we pretty much solved the Rift mystery in so far as what is out there to find? Sure there are still political questions and such to learn but that's all bubble stuff really. Does this officially wrap up the search out in the physical Formidine Rift itself?

I think if there's anything left in the Rift to find, it's past the Zurara, and further afield along the R.R. Line.

I think somewhere along the way SDC managed to sneak into PAC and, very brilliantly, molded PAC into exactly the beast that they wanted them to be.

IMHO...
That Discord channel seemed a schoolyard ruled by 9yrs olds running high on sugar. I see nothing brilliant about taking a candy from a child.

But the real tragedy here is... CMDR Masheikh Scytale has lost his, let's say, main love interest... :(

Thanks again for being the "control subject" for the experiment. There may be some side affects so if you notice that you start growing a carapace do not be alarmed ;)

Reminds me of something I said to a friend back in the early 1990s. We were talking about doing something difficult and I told him, "It'll be like taking candy from a baby." He said, "It won't be that easy." and I replied, "No ... but it will be just as much fun."

I'm not that cruel in real life ... but maybe SDC is. It is, after all, just a game ... no matter how serious we treat it.

Hi Folks,

Apologies for delay in responding, as 1, I was knackered, and 2, I've only just finished carting all my computers and network gear back upstairs where they belong.

I'm posting here first out of all possible locations because you are the folks who've been following this the longest and deserve the explanation first. A few things went awry last night (inevitably) and as a result of that not everything was as clear as I would have liked.

The objective of the chase was to reach the Tionisla system from 46 Eridani. All four protagonists had that goal. There they were to rendezvous with the Cor Meum Et Animam Cobra that was positioned in the 'Encrypted Transmission' tourist beacon (in lieu of not having a graveyard at this point in time).

That Cobra would (rather like the EAFOTS transmission in Galnet) give off a transmission, requiring the protagonists to seek the Teorge system, there to find the transmission logs left by Rebecca.

Tsu got there first, followed by Raan and Yuri. Unfortunately, due connection issues, we could not get the Cobra to instance correctly with the protagonists. Thus we had to give the clue manually. As you all know, the logs had already been found by this point (ironically) by one of you. Spoilers of course, but the show had to go on. Thus the message was revealed, but not in the way I had hoped or anticipated. The logs are server side content which had to be placed in prior to the event, so there was always risk this would happen.

Salomé was due to make one of her customary speeches on arrival, but alas, she was killed. More detail would have been contained therein. That avenue is now closed. We did intend to reveal some of that along the way, but it proved simply too hectic to do so - we had no let up during the 2 hours. It was constant and exhausting. Dozens of PvPers were interdicted out of Salomé's way by allied forces during that time.

Whilst Harry Potter did finish Salomé off, her ship was badly wounded after almost 2 hours of evading interdiction by hardened PvP players. Her hull was intact, but despite exhausting an AFMU (refilled twice) and using all our stored Jumponium, when she was interdicted that time she suffered fatal damage to chaff, weapons, and FSD drive. We also suffered from the wing partners not being able to dewake alongside, thus she was alone, damaged and without weapons or means to escape. The result at that point was inevitable.

Cheers,

Drew.

Thanks for the update Drew.
Despite the technical difficulties (and the mountain of salt that the forum turned into) it seems a lot of people had a lot of fun.

Can you confirm whether or not we've found everything, or if there's stuff left for us Rifters to investigate?

Thanks to see that, in spite of Salome's demise, you're still with us.
