Really want to solve the Alien Ruins mystery, but don't have a PhD...

I'm not new to Elite, I have been playing on and off since early access, but I am just a gamer with a love of sci-fi, canon and lore. I love the combat, I love the trading aspect, hell I even love pirates, but I can't devote that much grey matter to what is effectively Space Da Vinci Code (with extra spreadsheets). I've found the videos which explain vaguely what to do, and numerous spreadsheets and maps (thankyou for you efforts CMDRS) but they are just baffling to somebody who has very little idea of what it all means. Can anybody help, preferably with a simplified spreadsheet (A+B=C) or guide for the more simple players amongst us? I want to solve this, it's not even about the credits, I want to expand my Elite experience, beyond being the best combat sci-fi flight simulator I've ever played. I understand that the joint community has a massive compiled knowledge base, but not all of us have PhDs in codebreaking, and I understand that FD want this to be a deep and compelling mystery, but it seems (to me, again a simple gamer) that it's slightly unfair that we should all have to rely on third party sources to get the most out of this.
I'm not trying to be salty, I just want some help with what could be something amazing to experience, but will be denied to so many.
Thankyou in advance CMDRS

I'm somewhat with you, mostly because I'm unable to really be a hardcore player with my schedule. As an explorer still about 4,000 ly from Sol I'm out here just scanning planets and phenomena and it causes me to feel a bit disconnected from the player base and the community events since I only have a chance to play 2-4 days a week for an hour or two here or there.

I mean it's just hard to get engaged with all the lore that is happening all around us. I watch ObsidianAnt's videos and browse the forums and read the Frontier newsletters, but feeling like I'm actively part of the lore itself is another thing entirely.

It's exciting to watch the videos of the ruins and these events, though.

The mystery isn't as deep as folks make it out to be...some information from recent non events tied with oblique and seemingly vague comments from DB from the interview he did at Pax solves the entire thing for me.

There is no alien species, look at the reference material...DB has hinted that all these 'alien' cutscenes we've been subjected to could be just part of our imagination. He also stated that it was highly unlikely that two space faring species could exist at the same time.

Then there's the generation ships, rumours of a shady organisation (INRA) that uses some form of mind control whilst pulling the strings, manipulating the Empire and Federation, possibly the Alliance too although I fear INRA have plans for them. Then there's the rewriting of the existing Elite lore to start ED with a new history making the entire premise of the Thargoids just not happen

Aliens?

Nope, too much dilly dallying from FDev and cryptic nonsensical statements from DB in video interviews...what FDev will hit us with in the big reveal is merely a rework of powerplay and Engineers... humans all fighting and playing galactic politics with some alien tech INRA are using to enhance ships and control minds (.."Or maybe someone imagined these encounters, who knows!" <DB>).

It'll be as anticlimactic as a 40 year old episode of Dr Who... I can practically hear the thousands of mouse buttons clicking the uninstall button when it happens [yesnod]

I can help you with all off them, and almost finished them all (90 %) in a few hours of play

Did you ever play the first few games if you did you would know there is aliens

To be honest, I'm with you OP. I feel quite out of the loop. But I've recently moved into a new place with my partner and don't get much time at all to play ED (I already get stern looks when I log in and play a quick game of Gears!)

But then, I know my place. I'm good at shooting things. I'm gonna stick around in my home system and blast some wanted scum out of the sky.

The thread linked by Ian is a good place to start. Good luck mate. o7

..and that's precisely why a revelation of 'there's no aliens, LOL' is the one thing you can bet your bottom dollar won't happen.

Seriously mole what are ye smoking..

FD rely on their players for income right? Spending all this time slowly teasing the presence of aliens, only to turn around and go 'PSYCHE! No aliens for you, players!' would cause the biggest fecal meltdown & exodus from the game, of all time. There's been enough strain on people's tempers in the wake of the recent event*, why on earth would they ever want to stir the pot in such a manner.

There were a few vague comments from dev Michael Brooks when ED first came out that this ED might not be set in the same universe or time line as the previous games.

Yes, it's confusing sometimes. We have a "first Thargoid contact" tourist Beacon, a Jameson Memorial and what not. Still there are these comments like the ones from Michael Brooks or DB. From what I read after the last event folks are kinda fed up with all the mysteries that might lead us nowhere.
Chasing ghosts of a Lore that is unfolding at the speed of continental drifts.

You know me...always stirring the pot with conspiracy theories...this is the ED forum after all. Folks used to have to pay a penny to poke the loonies with a stick at Bedlam, now we can all do it for free on here [haha]

Just putting my thoughts out there Mung0. Recently, I'm still not sure if FDev have remembered they're not working on Planet Coaster half the time and just adding new park rides as content...Personally, I'd just like an 'Add aliens' button.

Haha that button exists, unfortunately it's only found on the updated hud with the changeable colour scheme [noob]
