THE FORMIDINE RIFT MYSTERY (Part 4)

This message is not very uncommon unfortunately, i found a couple while scanning outposts for MEFs.

And BTW, i was meaning to ask this for a couple of days now in this thread, what was revealed after the Salomé event? Only those Old Woman recordings at Teorge? They are vague and dont say anyting new...
Was there anything else? If not, the payoff from the event was, well... nothing!

3 survived, and because one died, they reveal nothing? Im as confused as i was at 46 Eridani!

It confirms a few theories, discards many, and confirms the bad guys (although still not convinced the aren't the good guys) are an unknown behind the scenes group trying to run everything with the powers as patsies.

And with that sets us up for more hunting and book 3.

For that DrewC has summed up most options and questions we have now, it's those and look for anything new, such as a reaction to the reveal.

Unfortunately I think most of the community will just go back to normal business until something big is thrown at them, so pick your wild goose to chase, keep your eyes open and get tinfoiling is the order of the day.

Yeah you're right, it does confirm what once where just theorys.

I think we will have some answers when the book comes out. And some more mysteries too!

But i still think there should have been some more information. Especially from Raan Corsen!

So, what now?

Greetings CMDRs.
I'm about to (try to) be serious, so pay attention because it doesn't happen very often...

The first part of the Formidine Rift saga has come to an end, but there are clearly a whole lot of questions that remain unanswered. In addition, if I'm reading Drew's hints correctly (first time for everything, right?) then we, the Rifters, have the potential to create content by the act of investigation - if you look for it, they will build it, so to speak.
Right now, we're all kind of flapping around, speculating about anything and everything with no real direction and quite honestly, after following the Rift mystery for 18 months, this lack of direction really sucks.

So, I have a proposal for you all:

Let's quit the theorycrafting, tinfoiling and speculation for the moment and sit down and figure out what we actually know, and the questions we want answered. Once we have some kind of consensus ('herding cats' springs to mind) we can use that to create a new 'first page' of this thread. I say 'this thread' because I'd suggest we stick with it until the mods come along and unsticky it ;)
Additionally, lets keep the Thargoids and Guardian ruins out of this thread - leave all that stuff in the Canonn thread so we're not duplicating things.

Right then.

Stuff we know:
All the stuff from the Teorge logs and Zurara - which I'm not going to copy at this point.
Something in the Rift appeared to drive the Dynasty mission guys crazy
Salome is dead - confirmed by Drew 'Machiavelli' Wagar, so we can assume she's still alive ;)
Somebody rescued Salome from the prison convoy

Stuff we don't know:
Formidine Rift
What the Rift 'threat' is?
Is the "Rift threat" the same as the threat the Dynasty conspiracy tried to counter with the Dynasty expedition?
Is the Teorge information correct?
Who is behind the Dynasty expedition?

Salome Bio
Who is behind Salome's rescue?
Why was Salome special (1)? - Octavia and the body swap
Why was Salome special (2)? - What made her running around in the Rift a threat, where we Rifters can do it with impunity

Sirius/Wreaken/MetaDrive
What happened to Commander Falchion, and what link (if any) do they have to Metadrive? - I have no idea who this is :D
Where did all those Sirius Corp automated exploration probes go?
Why was Salome near 46 Eridani? What was she looking for in that area?

Materials
What happened to the meta alloys and tantalum?

Other stuff
We could, if we wanted, run around the Rift (and Hawking/Conflux) looking for ELWs and beacons, but I think that whilst finding them might be fun (assuming there's anything there) they're 'old news' and not going to tell us anything we don't already know.

If anyone has any other facts or questions the feel free to add them - but at this point I'm going to ignore any theories or speculation ;)

Bumpin'

Or Cmdr Zach could lob.. ahem strategically place on the front page for ease of access.

Worth all of us heading to 46 Eridani and checking the system? or nearby systems? that's the one place we haven't exactly focused our attention on.

Your making me feel guilty for being lazy now

:D i got lost trying to find it.

Also did anyone see where Salomé started off the event in this system? or was it just the main star?

Still I don't get the point of the DBX except the price , when i can go in my explo conda with a 51Ly jump range with a good array of defensive weapons , shields , SRV , SLF , cargo , AFMU , and a big fuel scoop.....

Why do you need all of that weight, size, and extra slots when you're intending to spend so much time outside of civilization that you're not likely to need that kind of hull and firepower? For me, the DBX stands out as having much better maneuverability, much smaller and lighter, better fuel usage and you have just enough slots for everything an explorer needs. It's also way better looking, and muuuuch much much muuuch cheaper. I've spent about 14 million on my DBX to achieve what you spend 150+million in an Anaconda.

Here we go, someone trying to tell others how to play the game. If we were in the explorer subforum, we'd have to have a drink after reading this... good job I'm in the pub right now. :D.

Sorry, but if there's a particular region I want to check out or explore, I don't want to be sat still waiting whilst still on the way. Even if I came across something interesting in system, I would rather be checking that out rather than sat scooping.

I'm not telling you how to play the game, it just doesn't seem logical to me that someone would call themselves an "explorer" if they're not.. well.. Exploring? You're more like an Investigator, going to points of interest to study it. Rather than being the guy that finds them..

Tsu got there first, followed by Raan and Yuri. Unfortunately, due connection issues, we could not get the Cobra to instance correctly with the protagonists.

Surely you know you could never have got one Cobra to instance with Raan and Yuri. They were on PC and Xbox respectively, which never share instances.

Guys, he's talked about the difference between Xbox and PC for purposes of the event at length. I'm sure he knew. Guessing there was a ship waiting for each on their respective platforms, and had instancing problems with all of them.

That was not my point.
I know there was instancing problems, I was there ^^

My point was : what Raan Corsen did at Tionisla during about 30 minutes (30 minutes in an instance, not trying to join one, while Salomé was blown up) ?

Someone argued that Drew gave an answer to my question. But I didn't read that answer. I read the Drew's post sfx quoted.

A while back Wace from Canonn, decoded and triangulated signals from the unknown probes to be pointing back to their home system, which he calculated as being Col 70 Sector FY-N C21-3. As you all know Col 70 sector is in the same neighbourhood as Salomé started her chase on Saturday. It's also where wreaken corp are doing other sneaky things. Would I be getting too tinfoily in suggesting all these mysteries are intertwined as different faces of the same dice?

I really hate having to argue on the forum, but it seems like you are being unnecessarily judgemental about how I am spending my time in game. I have been to many places in the galaxy many times, at different paces, and with different aims.

Seriously, check the exploration subforum (especially the drinking game). "You're not a real explorer if...X" comes up a lot.

I mean, I'm no Allitnil, but... ahem... who is? Besides Allitnil, that is... and even then, I wonder... :D

EDIT: yes the last part might be a little overkill (and only applies to those using EDSM), but I'm on the defensive and trying to prove a point... of sorts.

Also very rarely seen rogue cmdrs posting file dip in BOTH threads, and it justly being dealt with by players and Moderators swiftly. No-one in this game likes it so don't try and tarnish cannon because you're salty.
The first time I went on that thread, there was three or more pages of arguments over people in Canonn doing file-dipping. That was enough to put me off wanting to contribute more to their efforts.

How about an abandoned station deep in the middle of the rift that has the engineer's automated landing system, a player faction who's representative is just a sign that reads "back in 10", no refueling option- just restock/repair and a commodities market that only sells rare booze and cigars?

Edit: (oh, and a place to sell explo data)

Edit Edit: Greatest idea ever, they should just let us claim the Zurara! Not it on cleanup...
Sounds beautiful. I'd totally vote for that.

Barnards Loop is also accessible (I'm not sure whether it ever wasn't or not). The Horsehead Nebula is still locked though.
What was the specific sector the UP's were comparing their distance to? Is that sector locked?

We don't need no stinkin' etc...

I'm currently in negotiation (aka begging and being ignored) with FDev regarding a DrewC bobblehead.
Aw man, I want something for free! Get us a decal at the very least ;)

Very impressive discovery count! So far I've only been first to discover asteroids in the Coal Sack and that's about it. And I'm not trying to argue, I just didn't see what you'd consider as "exploring" to being what I'd consider to be "exploring", because it looked to me like you were "exploring" in the sense of going from point A to point B and nothing in between. I'm pretty fresh to the game and still haven't burned out on scanning everything I see and landing on everything and driving sideways on low grav planets yet, so I'm not at the stage where I just want to get from one side of the galaxy to the other in a quick fasion.

He did the sensible thing and docked. I was there. It has indeed been explained by Drew elsewhere, but long story short, RC was just waiting for the others to arrive - all of the characters were supposed to meet at Tionisla, most of the attention was on S and so RC was a long way ahead.

'Exploring' is a term with a wide range of meaning - and nobody (on this thread at least) gets to tell anyone they're doing it wrong, so play nice kiddies :D

My take (for what it's worth):
If I take a plane to New York and wander around the city, I'm exploring it. I'm pretty sure that somebody found it before me, but as long as I'm going someplace I haven't been before, then I consider that exploring.

On that note, I've been exploring the Bubble recently. I found a system called 'Two Ladies'. I'm willing to bet most people haven't heard of it, let alone visited it - and of those who did visit, even fewer will be aware that there's a pirate faction there called...

Out of rep, but spoken like a true leader.

Though, about the bolded bit... I like to remove from that statement, because I don't think it matters where you are.

It's a system, Col 70 Sector FY-N c21-3. Yes it's locked as are all the surrounding systems (last time I checked). It's in a ~170y thick section of the 'wall' between Spirograph/ the NGC group and Synuefe in the general direction of Guardian space. If the system itself was unlocked it would be reachable via a Neutron Star in Synuefe.

Yep that's a good find. Or not, i suppose. Guess it depends on your alignment :x

In other news, I've worked so hard today that I've prepared my contingency plan work for working at home tomorrow :D
