Exploration Scout

The OP has an interesting idea.

I remember the first time I tried an SLF in the Beta of the update, I flew one around and inside the wreckage of a ship in a USS. At the time I was thinking that along with combat orientated SLF's, what we also need is an explorer based ship launched craft.

My idea was to have a small ship that was basically a flying SRV, with say 2 ton cargo space, a scoop and weapons or perhaps mining lasers.

The thought was that it would be something useful that explorers could have instead of taking a combat ship that would have limited value.

So +1 from me and I think you should put it forward as a suggestion for FD to look at.
 
This idea would greatly enhance the interaction between players, it is extremely practical and does not require special expenses. A natural stopper for commuting between systems, may be an insufficient fuel supply due to the small internal volume of the small system explorer(SSE). Which barely enough to install the FSD and scanning modules due to the possibility of installing weapons.
 
And how to realise instance things for theese ships? Wing? Or something like commanders? How small one will fing again mothership if one fly away far enough?
As one of variants, small one can have something like mini-fsd, whichj allows to use hypercruise, but unable to jump between systems. So when mothership scanning cellestrial bodies, small ship can fly down to some planet and research something there. It mayt works.

Perhaps it makes sense to do in the game FSD 1 class. This engine will be very compact, without the possibility of hyperjump. But with the ability to install it in a fighter without weapons.
 
Well, no aswers from FDev still, but I think this is important idea for ED development.
Of course, if FDev intend to develop exploration in this game. But it's not happening... a very long time. Okay, this is the opportunity to do so.
 
I'm sure this idea is awesome! There are advantages for multi-crew. There is a new mechanics for explorers! I wish that FDev would add such a feature to the game. And the faster the better :)
 
great idea.

having an option for scouts rather than fighters would make multicrewing exploration viable.

the scouts could maybe display that landing schematic that pops up on your radar (so you can see the ground) but from a massively increased height.
this would make them very useful for surface exploration too, extending the range and detail which commanders can scan planets surfaces.

you could even give them the ability to scan data posts with their data scanner, as you cant use your SRV in multicrew, which is kinda limiting for gameplay.
