THE FORMIDINE RIFT MYSTERY (Part 4)

'Exploring' is a term with a wide range of meaning - and nobody (on this thread at least) gets to tell anyone they're doing it wrong, so play nice kiddies :D

My take (for what it's worth):
If I take a plane to New York and wander around the city, I'm exploring it. I'm pretty sure that somebody found it before me, but as long as I'm going someplace I haven't been before, then I consider that exploring.

On that note, I've been exploring the Bubble recently. I found a system called 'Two Ladies'. I'm willing to bet most people haven't heard of it, let alone visited it - and of those who did visit, even fewer will be aware that there's a pirate faction there called...

Wait...I knew about something that you didn't?! That makes me feel accomplished. [haha]

I saw the system name on my nav panel while I was in the area once, and thought it might have a pair of close binaries. Was kinda disappointed when I honked there. Think I even got interdicted by one of the Boys on my way out.

F,K, and G are the most common but there are still ELW's around other types of stars. I've seen them around A type stars (rare). We all may have missed something given the odds. Happy exploring.

F & K, huh? I'd never given much thought to it. When I go hunting for Earth-likes I filter to class G simply because, I figure, Sol is a class G so Sol-like stars should be good candidates for Earth-like planets.

I agree with the FKG for ELW, but while it might just be RNG and me, I have more terraformable worlds around As than any other star type. My best paying system was an A with 2 ELWs, a water world, ammonia world and 6 other terraformable worlds including a couple of lifeless landable moons, with most of the planets orbiting gas giants. As they mentioned in the logs that they dropped terraforming packages I'd do the As as well if me out there.

I tend to travel AFG for the hits. Ks are a bit too common with lower % ELWs than FG for me and AFG usually only adds around 5 jumps per 1000ly when not is a sparse area.
F & K, huh? I'd never given much thought to it. When I go hunting for Earth-likes I filter to class G simply because, I figure, Sol is a class G so Sol-like stars should be good candidates for Earth-like planets.
I'm sure everyone has some observation bias from where they found things on their first exploration trip. I know the first time I set out I searched almost all G types only because I figured that's what Earth orbits. I didn't have much luck that way. My two best paying systems that first time out were F types. I'm not really sure what biased me toward K's. I do think a lot of people looking for ELW's search G type stars only so it's harder to get first discovery on them unless you go out pretty far.
To be fair, it is rather strange that both misspellings have replaced an n with an r... another final message from TOW perhaps... ;)
And the mystery begins! [where is it]

Why do Galnet claim that Salomé was killed in Arumclaw, when she was really killed in Anumclaw?

Same reason why Hitler was buried in an unmarked grave. They don't want Anumclaw to be turned into a shrine for the "Salomé Faithful" to make regular pilgrimages to.

Thanks for the reply - appreciated.

I'm currently on the way to the Frift, having gone to The Zurara and picked up the logs - then headed to the rim, and now on the way back. I've not yet been to the locations in the Frift. I'm headed towards:

EAFOTS GL-Y E2

EAFOTS RA-G B11-0

EAFOTS LZ-H B10-0

EAFOTS EU-R C4-1

I believe these are the locations of the beacons and bases - is that correct? Or do you know of any other systems I should visit? Cheers.

It's probably the Illusive Man and Cerberus who are behind it.. Oh wait.. sh*t - wrong universe..

Same reason why Hitler was buried in an unmarked grave. They don't want Anumclaw to be turned into a shrine for the "Salomé Faithful" to make regular pilgrimages to.

tinfoil ahead:

When you replace the first "A" in Anumclaw with "E" you get Enumclaw wich is Native American for "place of evil spirits".

Just coincidence?

does anyone have any information on the Hutton Truckers found message that has been mentioned since the 'event'? I cannot seem to find any more info on this

Although I always find it funny that discussion about taking your imaginary ship to an imaginary part of the galaxy to solve a fictional mystery isn't RP;)

What's that? IMAGINARY SHIP???

Perhaps a better phrasing would have been this thread has only limited RP.

Are you sure? Didn't he say he wanted somewhere that dealt with facts? :p

Well, we have facts .... about biscuits, speculation ... about the best biscuits, theories ... about dunking biscuits, and clues ... about where Rizal hid the last pack of Bourbon cream biscuits.:D

And occasionally solve puzzles about UAs, UPs, and .. other stuff.

For reference. It is a piece of in character audio work, approved of by Drew that is purely for enjoyment.

I half-listened to it, because I was trying (& failed) to get Audacity to record it for later enjoyment. Did anyone record it?

Update: What people are doing

The Rift thread has always been governed by Wagar's Uncertainty Principle:

You can know where you're looking, but not what you're looking for
OR
You can know what you're looking for, but not whether it exists in game

...

Who is behind Salome's rescue?

Wagar's Uncertainty Principle definitely deserves rep!

If you mean rescue from the prison convoy, when reading it the first time, I was under the impression the "attackers" who destroyed the convoy were actually her rescuers. They ended up either killing the rest of the convoy and left no trace of the rescue, or the Imps were embarrassed and covered it up. Not in their own self interest obviously, but I certainly don't want to paint the Politicians/Bureaucrats/Businessmen of the galaxy of 3303 any better than the ones of 2017. I haven't seen evidence of inspired thought from nearly any of them.

I haven't re-read the material relating to this, but I do remember there were several special ship names involved, related to Greek mythology IIRC. I can't remember whether both sides or just one.
Sirius/Wreaken/MetaDrive
What happened to Commander Falchion, and what link (if any) do they have to Metadrive? - I have no idea who this is :D
Where did all those Sirius Corp automated exploration probes go?
Why was Salome near 46 Eridani? What was she looking for in that area?

Materials
What happened to the meta alloys and tantalum?

Perhaps the stolen meta alloys were part of getting into and out of Col 70? Everyone interested here should be watching the Protest against Wreaken. It is specifically targeted at Col 70 permits. It's RP all the way so stay in character in there.

Shameless self-bumpage.

It was Cmdr Assimilator1 & his list is at https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php/324796-THE-FORMIDINE-RIFT-MYSTERY-(Part-4)?p=5068355&viewfull=1#post5068355

You could also add analysis of Galnet history to investigate Teorge logs allegations of market rigging
And perhaps investigation of flowership hyperdictions in the Pleiades and their appearance at Distress Calls

Two sites I visited had a Data Point. Upon scanning both - including the one over the cliff, which caused me some problems - I just got various bits of data, firmware and whatnot. By the sounds of what you have said, I should have expected more - is that right (what would the intel packages be worth)? I was only there for the logs, and was planning on heading to an asteroid base in either Heart or Soul. But upon reading the logs, I decided to head back into the Rift for a bit searching, probably in vain, for a system with an Earth-like planet (in the area where the planets 'thin out').

BTW: WHAT STAR CLASS IS MOST LIKELY TO CONTAIN EARTH-LIKE PLANETS (ASKING EVERYONE)?

The FRift Alpha and Beta sites each have a data point that can be scanned to get an intel package (if you're lucky, it failed to load for the Alpha site for me & have raised a bug report; don't understand why each data point scan also gets three Modified Consumer Firmware). They are worth about 15 million each, appear in the Transactions tab as "Abandoned Settlement data package", but seem to contribute to trade rank rather than exploration (which is what I'm trying to push at present, went from 21% to 40% Pioneer yesterday so Elite finally in sight). The Alpha beacon is part way down the cliff, and so is one of the comms points for one of the message logs-best to watch Obsidian Ant's video of how to access those. Other sites are easy.

Why do Galnet claim that Salomé was killed in Arumclaw, when she was really killed in Anumclaw?

I think the clone that is responsible for Galnet is dyslexic. Possibly a genetic flaw picked up from some ancestal Historical Earth rag editor. ;)

Edit: or game developer

Hit the Lave area and you get Ks with ELWs. I've even seen the odd one around T-Tauri and Ms. But many of the A terraform worlds I've got tagged were in systems with the sun and first few planets already tagged as the habitable zone seems to be well over 1000 ls out from the sun and a lot wider than the others.

Ks as you'll know are down around the 500 ls, for an M you'll probably be able to scan one when scooping. But they all seem to rise with the habitable zone being further from the sun and a wider band for that zone running from the lowest as MKGFA.

I just find that Ms have a very small % chance and Ks isn't large either, it's just that with there being so many Ks there are in actual numbers if not % a lot of ELWs floating around them.

A stars, for me anyway, have about the same % of ELWs as Ks, but a better % of metal rich and terraform world than the rest and there are a lot less of them to have to look at.

Blah blah blah 'For Salomé, she lives but thrice' blah.

What? She only lives Thrice?

From Dark Wheel HK:

DW1: 'Oy, last Salomé model clone died. We need a new one, ASAP.'

DW2: 'Forget about it. Only three copies possible before severe degradation of DNA.'

DW1: 'Sorry, forgot about that. The last one wasn't even a god pilot. I think degradation was early on this model.'

DW2: 'I know. To bad really. The first to were marvelous. Could you swoop down to Achenar and fetch that medallion. I want to put it in the retired agent cupboard.'

DW1: 'No problem, you nostalgic git. I'll be back for lunch.'

I think I know who is behind the conspiracy! A power above the Empire, Federation and the Alliance.

It isn't Sirius!

It's Jaques. He's older than the Alliance. He's outlived Presidents and Emperors alike. He has deep ties to the Federation and the Empire. He's ancient ... he was born something around the year 2900. At over 400 years old he's seen everything. He was already old when Peter Jameson first took the controls of his Cobra Mk III and when Alex Ryder began his quest to find Raxxla. Heck, the first mention of Raxxla was only 86 years before Jaques was born.

His first mention in modern times was on 7 FEB 3301 in an article titled "Long Lost Station Returns". Where was he at for all of those years? Could this timeline crisscross with the Dynasty Expedition? A followup article on 12 FEB 3301 asks,

What mysteries will the enigmatic cyborg see on his long travels? Emma Hallows, asked Jaques those very same questions the robotic barkeep responded- "If people want to know my story, they'd best come buy a drink and find out for themselves."

19 FEB 3301
After a week of wandering in HIP 110620 the Jaques Starport is now making its way through HIP 110079. GalNet is still no closer to learning the reason behind the station's unexpected return, nor can we ascertain where the cyborg barman's ultimate destination may be.

We don't read about him in Galnet for over a year and when we do ... Jaques is preparing to jump all the way to Beagle Point. We all know what happened next. The "misjump". Jaques goes missing. Mystery and intrigue. Commander Cly makes the momentous discovery that Jaques is near the galactic center in the EOL PROU nebula. His station instantly becomes a rallying point for explorers. A new community is born.

We're now beginning the sixth month of the Colonia Expansion Initiative ... after which a total 45 factions will have taken up residence in "The New Bubble" ... fulfilling everything that Exodus/Dynasty set out to do.

Now ... pull out your galaxy map. Draw a line from the Core Worlds to Colonia. Now mark the Conflux abandoned settlements on that map. It's almost a direct path.

The Dynasty expedition set out in three directions. Only one of which turned out to actually be viable: The Conflux. The other two missions, the ones to the Rift and the Gap, were terminated.

The Colonia Expansion Initiative is the logical conclusion of Exodus/Dynasty. Jaques, who was alive at the time of the first Thargoid encounters and remembers first-hand the devastation, spent those missing years preparing a place for us in the EOL PROU nebula ... the perfect place to hide humanity from the threat that Jaques knew would eventually come and threaten humanity if it didn't find a safe harbor in time.

Okay ... maybe not entirely a serious (I did kind of warn you just above the spoiler) but it seems like a pretty consistent theory.

Yes... she lives but thrice part...

Drew said she was killed, but how many times has she died so far - twice? One more to go, which means....

i really like this idea, have some rep CMDR o7

I don't think that's the fact she went into the Rift that was a threat . I think the isuue is that she went there and in the Distant world expedition while having find out secret informations from the Imperial databank.

A lone or a bunch of "Rifters" going to roam the far end of the galaxy with bare potential clues are not a threat cause the chances they stumble on something is very low and even if they do so , there is little for them to relate the discovery with Imperial secret affairs.
But if you process the other way , begining by knowing a secret and going to find the proof , that's another matter.

As for the Jacques theory I find that interesting too..

Jaques knows everything, but I don't think he is behind it. He only cares about saving him self and a decent amount of customers for his bar. :D
