THE FORMIDINE RIFT MYSTERY (Part 4)

the means to do so blew up with Octavias ship, and was a pretty rare piece of imperial equipment. That and it would kind of fly in the face of killing Salomé as Drew promised. Do i think her information is lost for good? no. but i don't think Salomé is coming back, ever.

I wonder who The Dark Wheel will choose as new High Priest/ess for the cultists....

Anyway, if I happen to cross his/her path, I'll try to change him/her in a 'good' CoR Boss...with my guns.

Based on the work that has been done on the exploration subforum by the likes of Marx, Chiggy Vonrichtofen and many others, the more common places to find them MIGHT be more related to the masscode of the system than the star class. Proc gen systems ending D(x) are more likely than C(x) or B(x) to contain ELWs. This is something to do with the starting mass of the system itself, and seeing as the vast Majority of of F and A stars are mass code D, whereas G types seem to be split between D and C and K class stars mostly mass C, that might explain why F and A seem more common than G and K.

As for O an B, I think the biggest issue is for those is that brighter stars are relatively shorter lived compared to others.

You're all forgetting that the star whose class is shown on the Galmap is not always the ONLY star in the system, and therefore not necessarily the one that an ELW will be orbiting.
Unless this is explicitly addressed in the empirical data being quoted, then it's going to be potentially misleading.

The Galmap lists the class of all stars in the system.

If Hotblack Desiato was frontman, that would explain a lot.

Edited... Apparently his band (Disaster Area, for the non-HitchHiker folks), had a hit single called Spaceship Superstar, released under the name PRISM.

Salome was a member of the band, along with Luko, Hassan and Raan, and she was killed while trying to release a new single in the style of Vogon Poetry, and subsequently published by the Hutton Truckers.

Solved it.

Ah, so that's what the Black Friday ship skins were for... the black anaconda crashing into the star at the end of the concert!

I must admit those Imperial Cutters do match the description of the VIP ship by Ford Prefect. "Nice perpilex running boards. Had one of those pass me in xxxxx. I was going full tilt and it just cruised past, its star drive hardly ticking over. Then it crashed into a moon. Looks like a fish. Moves like a fish... Steers like a cow. Great ship though."

If our sun is a G-class, the spectral charts would imply that either side of that is a good place to look - so that would be FGK, or I guess a little further out on the charts would be A (left of F), but as A is hotter, it may push the habitable zone much further out. Other end of that is M, which is much cooler, and planets need to be closer in to support ELW (which you already said).

That is assuming of course that we are at the centre of the chart rather than to 1 side of optimal. It's all we know now but we could find earth is the outlying example of surprising being around a G unlike the rest of the galaxy.

But yes, As habitable zone is a lot further out. Found terraform candidates 6000ls out from the star in some of those, but not within mars obit on any I can remember. Plenty of HMW/MRW though.

Spocks point above does tie in well with my experience in game. Has served me well travelling as while I will explore everything in an area I choose to investigate, a few thousand LY travel on AFG only to get there and back normally pays more than the end goal.

I agree. The thing about Red Dwarf (M) systems is they are extremely long lived, so if any ELW exists (Trappist?) then it should make for a stable environment for life to evolve. Although there is also a theory that evolutinary jumps occur due to natural disasters creating new niches for life to evolve. Without the Chicxulub meteor killing off the dinosaurs then we really might have lizard people......

Back to my "Hidden Messages in Economic/Health/War reports, more tinfoilery.

Each part of the report is 10 items long.

The vain queen rides a giraffe that remembers her daughter's hero
remove "remembers" as this has been called out so many times it's its own mystery
leaving us with ten terms
take the lengths of each of the terms

3 4 5 5 1 7 4 3 9 4

Take the character at the position indicated for each item: (from this weeks galnet boom report 2-5-2017
3 Uru Federal Interstellar U
4 Avan Labour Union N
5 Wolf 359 Blue Travel Commodities 5
5 Union of Wolf 359 Labour N
1 Lords of Ngaliba L
7 Potriti Gold Mafia I
4 Cemiess Commodities I
3 Coquim Industry Q
9 Orrere Ring I
4 Eravate Life Services V

There you have it: UN5NLIIQIV

Perhaps I need a longer break...

Colonel Dalk Mustard, in the palace, with the sword.
"Attackers", with the lazors, in the prisoner convoy. (presumed and widely reported dead counts, I'd think)
Besieger, for the lulz, in Anumclaw.

So it's possible she survived the second attempt. But if we believe the rumors that she's actually Rebecca's clone then the Anumclaw death was the last one anyway. Of course, that's not to stop the CoR from propping up a damaged clone as their savior.

Maybe, but the IV kind of jumps out at me. It means four in roman numerals of course. LII is 52... Maybe there's something to it.

Well ... if he isn't directing the conspiracy then I still think he's complicit. Perhaps not willingly complicit but I don't think Jaques ended up where he's at on accident.
Jacques was aiming for Beagle Point wasn't he? AFAIK he ended up where he is as a result of a mis-jump due to UA bombing by players.

TBH, I think the intended destination makes the case way more than the final one. If you're getting away ahead of the upcoming invasion you'd probably try and get as far away as possible.

Jacques does however seem happy with his final destination and no longer intending to go to the far edge of the galaxy. Perhaps his encounter with 'they' changed his mind. (Whether that change of mind was from seeing things clearly or as a result of a Machiavellian manipulation is a whole other question :) )

Also, for who 'they' are, the most likely match seems to be the 'caretakers of the galaxy' which Halsey claims to have encountered.

Best match for that seems to be the Guardian Exiles. - ecologically minded, unified biological intelligence and artificial intelligence, already ahead of us technologically, with an increasing rate of development, and then a further 2 million years worth of evolution and development from that point. (I'll probably turn out to be completely wrong of course, but it is a very good match. :) )

I can't help but wonder what phrase Halsey would have used if it hadn't been for the success of a certain awesome Marvel film! :D

An odd, slightly off topic, question if I may: Is it ever stated in Reclamation, (or elsewhere), what color Kahina/Salomé's hair is? Or is it only ever referred to as 'dark'?

No. The text never specifies the exact color of Kahina's hair. It is assumed black thanks to the accompanying visual media that Drew chose to use in his Kickstarter promotional media.

In his interview with Obsidian Ant he said he keeps character descriptions vague on purpose so our minds fill in the blanks. An interesting decision.

This is similar to something I've been pondering. How to sift through the various motives. The motives of semi-fictional characters and forces within the background story, FDEV's motives for responding to player actions, and player motives.

For instance was the bombing just a tremendously convenient player action giving FDEV an out to make Jacques jump to Colonia so that he could end up fitting his own goal to go to Coloniea while appearing to want to go to Beagle's Point. Or did FDEV just adapt to the player action and toss him to Colonia. If he really was meant to go to Beagle's Point has his misjump to Colonia changed the story or is there simply no story to change, ie he's not really part of the narrative, just background.

There was a description of Rebecca's hair in the hospital scene though wasn't there? Something like grey whither a few strands of her original color? I thought it was brown, but I can't look it up at the moment.

I think I know who is behind the conspiracy! A power above the Empire, Federation and the Alliance.

It isn't Sirius!

It's Jaques. He's older than the Alliance. He's outlived Presidents and Emperors alike. He has deep ties to the Federation and the Empire. He's ancient ... he was born something around the year 2900. At over 400 years old he's seen everything. He was already old when Peter Jameson first took the controls of his Cobra Mk III and when Alex Ryder began his quest to find Raxxla. Heck, the first mention of Raxxla was only 86 years before Jaques was born.

His first mention in modern times was on 7 FEB 3301 in an article titled "Long Lost Station Returns". Where was he at for all of those years? Could this timeline crisscross with the Dynasty Expedition? A followup article on 12 FEB 3301 asks,

19 FEB 3301

We don't read about him in Galnet for over a year and when we do ... Jaques is preparing to jump all the way to Beagle Point. We all know what happened next. The "misjump". Jaques goes missing. Mystery and intrigue. Commander Cly makes the momentous discovery that Jaques is near the galactic center in the EOL PROU nebula. His station instantly becomes a rallying point for explorers. A new community is born.

We're now beginning the sixth month of the Colonia Expansion Initiative ... after which a total 45 factions will have taken up residence in "The New Bubble" ... fulfilling everything that Exodus/Dynasty set out to do.

Now ... pull out your galaxy map. Draw a line from the Core Worlds to Colonia. Now mark the Conflux abandoned settlements on that map. It's almost a direct path.

The Dynasty expedition set out in three directions. Only one of which turned out to actually be viable: The Conflux. The other two missions, the ones to the Rift and the Gap, were terminated.

The Colonia Expansion Initiative is the logical conclusion of Exodus/Dynasty. Jaques, who was alive at the time of the first Thargoid encounters and remembers first-hand the devastation, spent those missing years preparing a place for us in the EOL PROU nebula ... the perfect place to hide humanity from the threat that Jaques knew would eventually come and threaten humanity if it didn't find a safe harbor in time.

Okay ... maybe not entirely a serious (I did kind of warn you just above the spoiler) but it seems like a pretty consistent theory.

This might be genious. It might be worth re-reading the logs from the Conflux expedition and comparing them to the Rift logs, and seeing if Conflux had as much alien-like activity being noticed. If Conflux had less, or none, then it would indeed make it a good direction to head in should the thargoids hit the fan. And, Jaques probably has enough wealth to fund entire expeditions like that, given his lifetime and station.

It doesn't answer why he had to keep it all secret and sabotage things afterwards, though. Doesn't seem to be his style..

Players? I think you'll find it was a player and one who had an advantage over others, always knowing your characters location and of course this would facilitate instancing.

I don't wish to insult you but in my view both you and Frontier look very foolish and silly right now.

This debacle of yours has, in my view, damaged the IP of the game.

completely fabricated, was an insult from my point of view, sorry my coldness
