THE FORMIDINE RIFT MYSTERY (Part 4)

About the color of the hair and other things about the characters in Drew Wagar's stories. I think it was in the interview from Obsidian Ant where Drew Wagar explained some aspects of that. Definitively a good interview, a bit long, but interesting.

I think the short version is: Drew Wagar keeps the description of the characters vague so that readers can use their own imagination.

For me Salomé always had dark brown, almost black hair - dark hair. But thinking about it now it would make more sense to be dark blond - not pure blond and therefore a "broken" or "bad" color. Indicating that the owner of the hair is equally "broken" and not "pure". Would make, in my opinion and based on my limited knowledge about imperial society, a lot of sense.

You seem to be a bit misinformed, so I would like to clarify something I have seen you allude to periodically:

CoR =\= Dark Wheel

The Dark Wheel is a group from Elite lore, where as CoR is a player faction/group, nothing more. We are a group of primarily explorers and role-players. We 'adopted' Salomé as our fictional leader after clearing it with Drew, and the RP'd the story from there. CoR does not exist in any Elite related books or writings outside of fan-fiction.

From lore, AFAIK the Dark Wheel is actually widely speculated to be the "Circle Of Independent Elite Pilots" from the book "And Here the Wheel" by John Harper (Fantastic read by the way)

Anyways, hope that helps clear up that distinction.

Ok, no problem. Never said COR = Dark Wheel, always said Dark Wheel helped COR by setting the witch Salomé as their new Boss

Just as anyone can read in the official COR website

Maybe you should actualize your own lore [yesnod] so i wont be a bit misinformed

Can't rep you again.

There is a faction called "The Dark Wheel" in residence at Shinrarta Dhezra. Whether this is the same Dark Wheel of old is yet to be seen.

According to John Harper's And Here the Wheel, a canonical Elite novel, The Dark Wheel has 'always' been led by a member of the Ryder family. According to Harper's novel Alex Ryder, the protagonist from Robert Holdstock's 1984 novella The Dark Wheel had two sons: Oberon and Neptune. Oberon felt that The Dark Wheel should have ceased the quest for Raxxla and instead divert it's resources to finding an abandoned Thargoid outpost known as "Soontil". Neptune refused to give up the quest for Raxxla and there was a Schism. Oberon and his followers formed The Circle of Independent Elite Pilots and, allegedly, located Soontil and initiated an operation known as "Endure" which bears a resemblance to the some of purposes of Exodus/Dynasty ... namely getting the galactic powers to escalate a military build up under false pretenses to get ready for what they believed to be an immanent Thargoid invasion.

The CoR origin story strongly suggests that The Dark Wheel is behind the appointment of Salomé as CoR's leader ... but stops just shy of actually confirming it.

'Strongly suggests' ?

Come on .. from the short story of CoR, front page, page 20 :http://childrenofraxxla.co.uk/home/wp-content/uploads/2017/novella/TheChildrenOfRaxxla-Final.pdf

‘Enough,’ the woman said. ‘You may be the children, but this is not time to
be childish. Salomé has been chosen by those above. She is what you need at
this stage; more than just a leader, a figurehead and rallying point. She knows
the Empire, she knows the Federation and the Alliance. She has the diplomatic
contacts you will need. She can open doors that would otherwise remain
permanently closed to you. She is acclimatized to power. She can engender
loyalty and adulation. When the time comes, you will need more than ships
and weapons, you will need charisma, charm and admiration. The masses will
follow her, love her and… if necessary, they will fight and die for her.’

Yeah, I am only refering to recent actual lore. Not to old novels.

Just saying if the cultists don't want us to believe they are manipulated by The Dark Wheel and "those above" ... just don't say it on your official webpage. Just to not misinform the reader.

Yes. I've read it and 'strongly suggests' is the right term. From page 21 of the same PDF:

"The Children of Raxxla were not The Dark Wheel of course, who is to say who was or wasn't part of that mysterious group."

So for all the posing and earlier dialog it is still left as ambiguous as to whether or not the organization represented by the older woman (I assume she's supposed to be Rebecca) is or isn't The Dark Wheel. In any case ... it's fan fiction. Unless Drew's new book draws a direct connection I consider it wishful thinking.

EDIT: Page 666. I feel a chill ... ;)

Again. Never said CoR were the Dak Wheel. Mudding the waters?:)

Sure you read it ?
salomé called by name to go to Tionisla graveyard, led by Luko (who I suspected to be a DW agent," always where and when needed". Introduced to CoR as their new Boss by a clearly identified Dark Wheel 'agent'.
Its...written.
Just re read it. :)

fan fiction ? Official CoR webpage ?
Ok..what you want. I give up.

Bye

As I mention above, there is a difference between lore and fan-fiction. The CoR novella is FAN-FICTION and hence not official lore... it's a 3rd party piece of fiction, from a 3rd party website, written by a 3rd party, and run by a player group. Not to mention that is CoR's OLD website anyways, and therefor no longer the 'Official' CoR website (See my sig.)

As that novella, and indeed any fiction written on CoR's website (old or new) is fan-fiction, then it is not official lore. There is quite a bit of fan-fiction regarding the ED universe out there. Why you would take this piece as lore and not any other makes no sense.

So for the purposes of this threads tin-foil regarding on going mysteries in-game, you MUST separate the two, and stick to official lore that can or could tie into the game, which includes the connection between The Dark Wheel and CoR.

Be as it may, from your post to clarify 'recent actual lore fan-fiction' nowadays there is no link/connection between CoR and the Dark Wheel.

So today we learned:

1) CoR =/= Dark Wheel
2) Fan-Fiction =/= Lore
3) Rift thread = place for official lore in order to accurately tin-foil !!! :D

Yes. I've read it. It is clearly meant to lead the reader to believe that the older woman in the story is a member of The Dark Wheel but it simply isn't spelled out in unambiguous terms.

And yes ... it's completely fan fiction. Not official lore and not recognized as canon by anyone outside of Frontier. The only novels/short stories that are officially recognized as canon are the ones that received licenses during the Kickstarter phase of Elite: Dangerous. My understanding is that Frontier doesn't even consider the original The Dark Wheel novella by Holdstock to be canon anymore.

Premonition stands a chance of upending things. Once it's published it too will be canon. Drew has the opportunity to confirm CoR's internal history or completely contradict it with a new origin story. It will be interesting to see what direction he goes with it.

And, of course, GalNet is canon so Salomé's Dark Wheel medallion is an actual thing but whether she received that from CoR, the older woman or someone else entirely is yet to be seen.

Ok. No problem. We must no read the player factions' webpages because anything there is caution to be rubbish. Only the forum thread is canon. Understood.
Now, please tell me how the Senator Kahina Loren came to be the CoR"s boss. Is there an official version ?
Please.

I would assume that the official version will be recounted in Premonition. Drew is going to have to explain how that happened somewhere in the text of the new novel.

I can't believe it... READ please..

Shinrarta Dezhra?’ The woman laughed, her scorn plain to hear. ‘You think
the Dark Wheel advertises on a station board in plain sight? That we need
rookie pilots to drag a couple of tonnes of thrumpberry flavouring across to
Hutton orbital? A trivial ploy to keep the founders amused.’

The Dark Wheel ..... WE .

Ambiguous ?

Yes. Ambiguous. She never actually goes as far as confirming that she is Dark Wheel. Her language is just shy of actual confirmation and leaves the opportunity for plausible deniability. Like I said ... it is strongly suggested that she's Dark Wheel. The afterward on the very next page, which I quoted, should be enough to make anyone reading the short story question whether the woman was actually Dark Wheel or not:

"The Children of Raxxla were not The Dark Wheel of course, who is to say who was or wasn't part of that mysterious group."

Page 500!

Time to start the "Forrmidine Rifters' post Salomé tin foil" thread, me thinks.

Z...

No! It isn't page 500 ... it's page 666! Fix your forum view to match mine, gorramit!

EDIT: Personally I think we should wait until Premonition is published before starting a new thread. Everything we think we know now will be upended then anyway :)

I notice most of the... "Intruders" have left us, now...
