NPC killed me twice inside station - what should I do

I was in a passenger ship with mods, shields and boosters but no weapons.

I had no fines.

I was leaving a station slot slowly in my liner and I was hit from behind by an NPC which caused me to jam in the slot as that stupid npc kept trying to get out, I was then destroyed.

How do I stop this from happening?

How is this fair?

Shouldn't NPC's give way to human players?

Why is there no proper air traffics control?

I lost so much money and stuff as I didn't have enough money to cover the loan to get it all back.

This isn't fair.

I can safely say, I've never had an NPC hit me up the bum in a docking area.
I've crashed in to the back of them, many many times, but never the other way around.

If you're flying slow enough to be hit up the bum by an NPC, you're flying too slow. Lol

Speed up some, but stay below 100m/s, NPC's only fly very slowly in the docking area.

Once you've cleared the pad, zoom your scanner in to as close as possible and look for contacts coming in and out of the slot.

Also, never ever, ever ever, ever fly without adequate money to cover your ships rebuy.

Fly safe, fly smart!

The lack of a clearance UI or other mechanism to see how far from the slot you are in a big and long ship like the liner means that you can't go fast. over 100 is insta death. I've also thought i was clear but the tail was still in the slot and I got damage / fines. So telling me i'm going too slow isn't useful, helpful or accurate. in a vulture I can go in and out over 300 no problem. You can't do that in a liner!

It is a game. Until you figure out a solution when you get stuck in a mailslot and cannot get out quickly exit the game to the main menu. Do not wait until the station opens fire. Upon return you should be in space outside the station. A little help when learning the game goes a long way to avoiding some expensive rebuys and starting over!

There is an element of practice here. If you have one, look to see how the docking computer aligns the ship on the way in, now you have a calibration for where is safe. You can fly faster. Just wait until your tail is clear behind before you pitch, roll, or yaw.

The NPCs are annoying, but if you take off, align with the slot, check your radar and then go (or wait behind one and follow up his tailpipe just below 100) you'll be fine.

I've been rear-ended once, when took off from the pad and before the radar came back I'd been hit. Doing less than 100 prevents fines/death, but going too slow makes you an obstruction.

Ah, the Beluga Liner by any chance?

That kinda makes sense. Lol

That said, I boost my Anaconda in and out of the docking slot constantly, without a scrape. Usually. :p

You just need to learn how to position yourself, which simply takes a bit of practice.

Admittedly, I still make the odd mistake. Just yesterday I accidentally boosted instead of lowering my landing gear and ended up tangled in the toast rack. :D

But like Hooplah said, if you get stuck in the slot, especially from no fault of your own, just log out. There's no shame in logging on a station when you've become stuck due to some NPC being a bit simple.

If you lost too much, I suggested contacting support, they're really good, and will likely reimburse you for you loss, or atleast one of them.

Use to have a similar problem with the Anaconda getting stuck in the exit as the station rotated. Stopped it happening by lining up the a few ship lengths away from the exit (to allow others to easily pass) and then boosting out when it’s clear of other ships. You are given a lot of time to exit so you should never have a problem.

That shouldn't be happening, unless you have rotational correction OFF in your functions panel.

lol it was funny to read.

I don't understand how you went into such situation. Usually NPC slow down when you and avoid you when you come at them.

I usually Boost from inside the station to get out of it after aligning to the exit. And i do that in an Anaconda. You need to learn how to go faster with your ship.

Thank you for contributing to the unfriendly atmosphere around here.

I'll grant that the act might be much easier in solo when there aren't any players around acting unpredictably, and that M&K controls lend themselves better to the exercise, but I can totally assure you that boosting in and out of a station in a beluga is not only systematically feasible (after a bit of painful training), but also the only thing I find fun in the whole passenger hauling buisness.

That being said, I won't go on a "Git Gud" rant, because people with those words on their lips are usually insufferable [censored].

This is just a situation where you'd expect the AI to be not "that" fiercely stupid, but it just is, and it is a sad thing, because in this case it will punish you for flying safely.

If a player gets reared by another ship as they go 30-70m/s in a mailslot, it's not their fault. In any realistic scenario, no-one wants a heavy liner/transport truck to leave or come in a port or a parking at full speed.

The practical way to deal with this now is indeed to just practice lining the beluga better, but ultimately you shouldn't have to feel pressured to skim the speed limit as you leave a station in the biggest ship in game... FD should improve their NPC AI.

you are in a beluga of the sounds of it... can I suggest you put some sort of shields on it to avoid the problem entirely? even if they are super small and weak they will soak up some of the impact damage.

as for rear ending... if you are in a beluga everything smaller than you stops to give way. since you are the largest playable vessel in the game that includes anacondas, vettes and even the cutter...although rare. just how fast were you going? think of it this way..if you were driving in a 100km/h speed zone and someone was going 10...someone eventually would rear end him due to server difference in speed...or kill others in the process of evading it. or be stuck in traffic for the next 3 hours...there is not positive outcome for REALLY slow speeds.

but otherwise I am sorry for your loss, you will get there eventually!!
