Let's All Do The Kongga!

So last night I finally managed to get access to Marco Qwent - hurrah! And quickly got up to rank 3 with this blighter. Hurrah!

Seeing as I'm in my 50LY Conda, I decided to scoot along to Kongaa to purchase the 25 Kongga Ale bribes for Lori Jameson.

Ah! But there's only 24 for sale here! It's a Rare Good so yeah maybe they just had 24 then and there. I bought the 24 and went to bed.

I look at the market this morning - no more Kongga Ale for sale - so yes indeed it looks like I can purchase a maximum of 24 Kongga Ales and the market will not make that extra 1 I need to take to Lori.

So now I have to jump to Shinrarta, hand Lori my 24 Kongga Ales, hop back to Kongga, buy 1 more Kongga Ale, and scoot back to Shinrarta, to hand Lori that 1 last Ale she so badly needs.

Now don't get me wrong, I'm not butthurt about this, it's literally just 5 or so jumps in my AwesomeConda. I'm just curious about the reasoning behind this particular design decision.

FDEV, is this meant to be some kind of additional fun thing? It seems to me to be deliberately designed to increase the amount of time taken in that one task. It looks awfully like the decision a game designer would make in order to troll a player. Just askin', FDEV :)

Like I said I don't mind doing it - I'm asking FDEV about the decision making behind that particular mechanic.

I can understand why Rare Goods might be - well, rare - and having a limit to how many are available.

But this seems deliberate - they set the limit to 24 Kongga Ales, but Lori wants 25 of them, for example.

Qwent - wants 25 Modular Terminals, missions offer them 4 at a time - so you need just that one extra mission in order to get enough of them for Qwent.

That sort of thing. :)

I repeat - not moaning - just curious if it was a conscious decision on FDEV's part to make the number of Things You Need To Get As Engineer Bribes just that little bit awkwardly numbered compared to the Number You Can Get At Any One Time ;)

Why did you not buy 24 Ale the second time ? Not quite awake were you ?
Easily been flogged and given you some money...
;)
Cheers Cmdr's

Edit : Not to mention if you do the Jameson run also it makes some good round trips!

I'd hazard a guess and state that that falls firmly in the 'Oh hell we did not think that through' filing cabinet.

I think it is thought through, and this was decided. I don't think the maximum will always be 24 either. I think it could be as low as 12 (or possibly even 6) depending on the state of the system.

Yeah I'm still at Kongga with my first batch of 24, haven't been to Lori yet :)

I just loaded the game earlier to see if my 'limits' theory was correct - which it was - and now I'm back working and spouting off here ;)

I'll play later tonight.

Well originally engineers asked for much more. Wasn't there originally some engineer that asked for 200 tons of some rare commodity that had max amount sold to player like 5 tons?

Yes, I think that was Didi Vatermann, a very important engineer since she does the G5 shield booster mods.

In the original 2.1 she wanted 200T of Lavian Brandy....50T is annoying enough.

It's an odd design decision alright, maybe they're hoping for more interaction between commanders for the rares. Probably not.

Anyway if you're still at the station then get a collector controller, fly outside the no littering zone (10 K), wait 10 mins (for the rare to respawn), dump a few in space. Fly back - pick up the extra you need, fly out and use a collector limpet to pick up the ones you dumped.

Ninja'd - again :D

LOL! I like the idea of dumping some of the Ales and going back to collect them - nice :)

Why, yes....it would be nice if we got to drink 1 or 2 of them. But sadly they are bound elsewhere. I found the rares shipping quite tedious (several engineers demand them to unlock).

Much preferred the exploration and mining requirements.

Possibly got something to do with current state of system/station?
I seem to recall I did this in one run....I could be wrong tho'.

Yes Boom can produce more rares, it should in fact but having just delivered 720 tons of travel guides to Colonia the Boom state at Bluford actually halved the spawn amount - a bug no doubt.

You know for just 1 Patau82 is spot on you could just manually scoop it the collectors are really for getting max amounts for Rare's CG's.

Words of warning though, in case you use this for other rares. Wait 10 mins as I said because the canisters degrade in space so the % integrity will only last about 10 mins. Even 10 K out from the station the limit for dumping is 20 at a time. If you dump 21 then 1 will exploded instantly, 22 and 2 will explode and so on.

This means if, for example, the rares allocate 10 at a time the most you could get is 30 and the first 10 you picked up will be close to exploding from degradation. Having 2 or more collectors helps a lot if going for the max amount.

Or I can finally make use of my 2nd account for something - he's been sitting in limbo for ages doing nothing - it's about time he did some work, the lazy blighter ;)

Kongga is currently in expansion, hence the full allocation. Expansion grants the same effects as Boom - in a boom you get the max allocation of a rare good without having to wait 10 minutes.
