THE FORMIDINE RIFT MYSTERY (Part 4)

Jorki, - enlighten me, how does that prove an imperial link?

The empire used to be a very male dominated society. Hengist Duval changed a lot of these rules and practices, although it was a slow start.

His first act was to allow women in the palace. As you can see form this old article, they weren't quite equal at that point.

'After many years in which women were not welcome within the precincts of the Imperial Palace, His Majesty has decided that he will permit their presence on a day-to-day basis in purely decorative roles. The theatre which once was used solely for performances of the Ais dances of Prono has been converted with shopping malls, sandwich bars and sewing rooms to make the invited females feel at home.'

Hengist became more of a feminist in his late years. :)

First the point of having a megaship. Many of you will remember hours eyeballing planets and some of our number crashing in a variety of ways and if lucky getting to limp home carefully in a beat up ship desperately trying not to lose exploration data, and those poor souls who just lost it. With a ship while we have no need for commodities or missions, a place to refuel, repair and sell data would have been a massive boon to all involved. That's just 1 simple use and while we now have bases near the rift, Colonia bases near conflux, we have nothing near the gap or anywhere else we may need to go in future.
Totally agree with you here on how useful it would be, but there's still shadows of doubt in my mind over using the Zurara for this role.

For some sort of memorial, the back end of nowhere means very little. The graveyard in the bubble makes sense. But so does sticking it to the man and saying "remember this ship you tried to destroy and kill its crew, it's just supported us in catching you"
Would be great material for Drew's book after Premonition.

For PMF, people don't want rifters categorised and lead. Fine. Let a few of us start a rifters support faction, not leaders. I'd quite happily start a PMF alone if I could as part of my RP is wanting to get my extended family off being stuck on welfare in a Fed world. It doesn't have to be the rifters but can be an associated PMF that has decided to support rifters and any other groups, explorers or people heading out to do their own thing away from the usual BGS wars and powers. Gives everyone a choice to join, support or just carry on as normal and a PMF with no implied leadership at all.
I'd love a base outside of the BGS, so no Pirates try to interdict me any time I'm on my approach to a station! It's so frustrating when I'm 2Mm out and almost there then suddenly I get interdicted and thrown off course.

On salvage, a bunch of relatively poor people in a loose association would not have the means or resources to build our own ship, even if the companies we think may be behind this were willing to take our business. Making do with what we find though does make sense.
It does indeed. That's why I previously suggested an Asteroid Base, because it wouldn't cost so much as a full station or outpost would. I'm still not totally happy with the idea of moving the Zurara, my partner last night expressed her disappointment at the idea that she wouldn't be able to go out and find the logs, and she isn't a Rifter or even really cares to investigate the mystery -- But she thinks the megaships are cool to see, and she would like to get the logs, not through some tourist beacon but through an actual ship, like the Gen Ships. I think just saying "Well if they want voice logs they can go to the Gen Ships" is just selfish.

On getting the ship operational, that shouldn't actually be too hard. It's the reactor that needs work and that's pretty much it. The bigger job is upgrading it to modern FSD which would be needed if it wasn't going to take months back to the bubble under current limitations. So if flying out to collect bodies, why not take repair goods out, bodies back.
It shouldn't really support a FSD. Capital ships don't even have FSDs and still use old school hyperspace jumps. The reactor and I believe Life Support are really the only things that need work.

And finally for docking. I don't know what limitations exist with the megaship model but from the logs, they had condas as well as sideys out there so by ingame description it should have facilities for them.
Yeah but we all know how good Frontier is at keeping their details consistent..

Or I could just get a bit of help and steal it.
And how would you manage that without first getting it to a safe dock that can work on it, and not get mind-wiped by airbourne hexedit?

If the general consensus is to let it rot, I probably will try and steal it if allowed by FDev before somebody else does or it gets totalled by the original owner to remove the proof.

If the general consensus is to get it to the graveyard I'll help.

If the general consensus is to reuse it to help the search, I'll help that to.
I think option 1 would be the most compelling for a story, we would steal it and use it in solving the conspiracy. Option 2 is the most respectful, and would leave it unharmed and easily reached by those who wish to see it and the logs. Option 3 is the most useful to us but probably the hardest to achieve.

All this talk of bringing back the dead? Guessing we're taking about returning bodies to the bubble rather than resurrection. It's just that the phrasing makes it sound like the latter... :D
I was actually thinking more along the lines of Monty Python. "Bring out your deaaad!"
Damn, I was going to post the video but someone beat me to it.

I don't want a rifter faction, I don't want us to own a megaship. I want to revive the Zarara so there is a station/outpost in the Rift for explorers to use, and make it public that it IS out there. My original idea was to revive the ship as a megaship, as Canonn are getting, but not a new one. In light that it has outdated drive tech, and we'd need a formal organisation to run it, I have amended my initial idea. Others have run with this though and are now suggesting we get a brand new megaship or asteroid base. No no no, I say. This was an idea of something for us to do until new mystery's are woven into the game, and a fitting extension of the story and assets created for us.
This is the most ideal idea to me. We as a group wouldn't really be able to just retrofit this megaship with new drives or anything because we don't have that sort of organization or funding. If we were to revive the Zurara I would feel much happier with it not being able to move as opposed to slapping on FSDs that shouldn't really work with a ship that size.

A new clue. Good spot! Now, if only I wasn't in the office all day, I could throw my efforts into helping :(

Who was the lady of fate in mythology?

Moirai / moerae in Greek. Clotho , lachesis and atropos

Ninja'ed while editing

Are there not Moirai sectors out there, or am I imagining that? Or something similar? Either I'm insane or I flew through a smallish region with similar names recently.

Edit... It is entirely possible my grip on sanity is dubious.

Yes there is - It is located at 34.3125 / -44 / -15.59375. (as per edsm) [up]

Also notice that all the fates have their own system - Clotho, Lachesis and Atropos

According to the Dark Wheel(the book), they were men.
...

were might be the operative word here...

I have a plan

Wouldn't even need to consider a safe dock for at least a year, and no risk of mindwipe.

Admittedly that plan would need to submitted to FDev (which it hasn't) and gain their approval with whatever other hurdles they wanted to add, but my plan is ready.

Just waiting to see what happens here so hopefully I don't have to submit it while hoping nobody else has already popped theirs in to use it for other purposes.

Although I must admit if stolen for use as a pirate base by another group of players the cries of outrage here would make me laugh.

Can't repeat it enough. Think to your old days. Explorers, by definition, do not have a family. Keep the Zurara as the Rifters Retirement Home ! Don't be silly !

Haven't said what I would do with it if I stole it, but taking on that mill stone isn't appealing so hopefully there will never be a reason to give that reveal. But you could be right.
