Having Navigational Issues

So I'm heading to HEN 2-23 for a mission but as I'm over 500 LYs above the galactic plane I'm having issues navigating. While trying to plot a course to a system 990 LYs away from my location, my ship couldn't plot a route to a system just a small jump away. I have a 29.95 LY range with a full tank and only 2 Boosts available.

my first thought is come back closer to Zero, but 500ly is not a great distance to be honest, perhaps your jump range is restricting you, im not familiar with the HEN 2-23 system surprisingly

It's a Wolf-Rayet star and there's the 17.9 million credit contract to take into consideration. I looked ahead closer to the destination and I feel I might not actually make it. The stars near there are sparse. Should I drop down to a planet and start scooping for Boosts?

The route plotter will only plot jump distances based on a full tank.
So route plotting can fail if, somewhere along that course, it can't find a way across a gap that is under 29.95Ly
As I understand it, for each step in the course, it will only consider next hops within 180 degrees of the destination, so it won't backtrack or jump sideways to get across a gap.

You can often manually get across gaps by selecting a star as your target but don't plot a course there. If the distance is under your current jump range with your current fuel level, you can just jump without plotting a course.
That can get you across gaps that are over your full-tank jump range but under your max jump range.

As Ken pointed out, 29Ly should be OK at + or - 500Ly but another thing that can cause route plotting to fail is crossing permit locked regions.
If there are a few permit locked system in your way the plotter has to skip them and plot a jump past them and you may not have the range for that.
You can tell if a system is locked by selecting it in the Galaxy map. If it's locked you won't be able to select it.

Try plotting shorter courses. Instead of all the way there or 1000Ly, try a 200Ly course in that direction. If you can't plot that, try 100Ly, or 50Ly.
Eventually you'll get close to whatever is blocking your way and you can manually plan a course around it.

HEN 2-23 os 1271 Ly above the galactic plane, ~8.4 Kylies away from the bubble. The area seems to me scarce and I suspect you'll need jumponium and make smaller jump plots. From looking at the galactic map now it looks like the closest systems to HEN are around 35 to 40 Ly away.

Your range will cause you problems in scarce areas, and you'll need to plot shorter distances and gather plenty of jumponium grades 1 and 2 should be okay.

HEN 2-23 is 1200+ LYs above the plane so I HIGHLY doubt there are any Permit Locked systems in my way. I really shouldn't have brought the Fighter Hanger and bought a DSS...

EDIT: I might just dump the mission and just run around my area scanning systems and return sometime later. I'll see how close I can get.

A DSS would have been helpful and fighters won't be necessary. But it is what it is, you can still make it. If plotting 800 Ly fails (and it can with that jump range, then plot 200 Ly and try extending the plot little by little (say +50 Ly from the last successful plotted point) until you reach a point where it fails again. Travel that distance and look for alternative routes around the scarce area or use jumponium. You will need plenty of it.

Yeah, OK. You may have a hard time getting that high up with less than 30Ly jump range.

I've been up to 2684 and down to 2757 in a stock DBE with a ~35Ly range.
But now that I think of it, that was near the core. I probably couldn't do that anywhere near the bubble.

I made this trip recently and bookmarked the route. But I had a 38 LY range ship and just made it. I needed quite a few boosts (12 big ones and a couple of the smaller ones), and there's a neutron star jump needed as well (luckily there's also one for the jump back). With my 40 LY I could get to within 560 LY and then the fun started.

So, with 30 LY and just 2 boosts, I'm afraid you're not going to make it. Many of the stars are more than 60 LY apart.
