If that's the case, it's a decision by FDev, not Sony. There are games for PS4 that do allow you to use the keyboard for more than text. I don't remember which off the top of my head, but Tomb Raider and Final Fantasy come to mind..

I'm happy with my Logitech K810 multi-device keyboard. It's bluetooth, backlit, and can swtich between 3 devices by hitting one key.
