Video Hints at Space Legs Development

+Anaconda has recently taken on an internal cosmetic revamp. There seems to be a grey area as to why, or when it may be addressed(it looks worse.)

Are they related?

Good point. Actually I hadn't even considered the military modules! That changes the list up even more drastically.
Edit: it would be hard to argue that a Shield Cell bank would occupy the same space occupied by a module protector or extra hull. Very different things, physically!

I'm not sure how that can be true (I've heard the same btw) on account of some ships having had their internals changed up and no alterations on the outside:
T7 and DBE come to mind.

Having some numbers change has nothing to do whether the internals of the ships have already been made. Do you think that just because they add another internal compartment, that they need to add it to the interior of the ship. I doubt that it will change at all. Whether they have actually mapped out the ship or not is another matter though.

As far as mapping goes, and I know this isn't exactly what you mean, do you non-VR players know that if you poke your head through the back wall/door of your cockpit, that you can see your cargo bay, hardpoints, and so on sitting in place within the ship?

Some pictures would be very relevant to the topic at hand.

Actually, it does. That is precisely what it means.

As much as I, too, want to see a quality implementation of space legs, this video isn't evidence of anything except that a graphic designer employed by FDev once crafted a nifty-looking sci-fi environment.

Will do. I'm at work for a few more hours, but I'll capture some of the placement of internals when I play later tonight (W. Australia time)
On that note, I haven't clipped through the wall of an Anaconda since the cockpit was revamped, I'm curious to see if there's anything new back there

I've never seen any of it so am very eager to see what you post!

There was a video floating around of a player that had used a direct X modification that allowed them to fly freely through the ships in VR.

As far as I can remember the fighter bay, with it's elevator doors, seemed to align with the doors located at the back of bridge. The SRV hangar was present too.

I can't find the video anymore, would like to see if my memory is not playing tricks.

I hope I haven't talked it up too much. It IS interesting, though

Yeah, exactly. So when those things retract, they're still visible internally. If nothing else, it shows that they could wall up the rest of the available space and create a walk-through environment without having to rethink the layout.

Yeah it would be awesome.

Right the stations are not designed with the level of detail for walking in first person. So depending on where we're allowed to walk that area would be redone or added as new space-legs areas.

I'm guessing there will be a loading screen between entering or exiting the ship. I'm not even sure we will have access to to the landing area, at least not initially.

And those habitation rings are vast, like GTA maps. For one, the amount of work to keep it detailed is too much whilst also keeping each station varied. But also, what the hell would you do in there? It would literally need to be a new type of game.

Yep. Maybe if NPC gatherings were more fleshed out you could go to the lounge to interview potential crew in person and likewise pick up the more secretive jobs face to face. Honnestly, I'd want the ship to be the internal space that's fleshed out the most and for that NPC crew (as proper crew) would need a serious design upgrade. I'm not holding my breath, but it's what I'd like to see.

I quickly held the HMD up towards the roof, centered the view up there so that I could move the HMD through the floor. They're only short but you get the idea

What a fantastic game - it's clear for all to see.

Buy an Idris!

...whoops... wrong thread... soz...

Full marks for providing the video, but if anything that tells me that they DON'T have the internal layouts done in any detail. The stairs in the Cobra appear to end right at the SRV-bay/cargo-hatch; that will have to be redesigned if they want to make an internal ship design that can be walked around. The two lower weapon bays on the Asp-Scout appear to block the door to the lower cockpit, probably on the Asp-Explorer as well. There are probably loads of other similar issues if you look for them.

Cobra and Python. Are talking about another video?

Sorry, I should have made it clear, my observations of the Asp-Scout are my own and I don't have a video. But the main point is that there are already internal elements in some of the ships are appear to be too close together to allow a neat internal layout and I am sceptical that FDEV have done much work on the insides beyond the cockpits and maybe some very superficial plans. I'd be happy to be proven wrong though!

David Braben has said the ships have been designed to accommodate walking around the interiors. I can't link the video but he was pretty specific in the video.

He also said the game is based on "accurate" scientific concepts wherever possible.
