To FD. Advice on setting up Frontier account for PS4 launch?

Hi FD, just thought it might be good idea if you could give some advice for new users of the game on how they will go about setting up a Frontier account ready to go on launch day (or very early morning!).

If preorderers (?) can set this up before actual launch it nay help avoid a slight server meltdown (and disappointed CMDRs)?

Any tips/advice will I'm sure be much appreciated.

Just to hijack the thread slightly (soz m8) can you also confirm if we can use the same login as pc or xbox or if we need to setup a new account? I suspect not but will save asking on the day :)

I do not think you need to set up FD account for PS4 version, but i could be mistaken. Ps4 version will be handled by PSN system that means your cmdr name will be your PSN game ID and all customizations will be available to buy via ingame shop I guess since ps store will offer Frontier points as currency for ED. Also PS4 will preload ED one day or two before actual release will be playable.

I think the Xbox users had to still set up an Frontier account (Can one of those helpful guys confirm or deny? Arne?). I created one for the PC version and I assume I can link my PSN ID to this at launch so I wouldn't need a brand new account (I know I can't use my PC CMDR).

Mr Cynical raises a good point. Some advice from FDev would be appreciated.

STOP!

lol.

As far as i know, you can only make a account while being ingame.

Af course you can make a offical frontier account already. (you are going to use it if you want to make a support ticket if the bug forums can't help you anymore) but this isn't your ingame account like on PC.

First time you start the game the game will ask you to make a account, and to connect your PS4 account to a Frontier account, this is an automated process. And you only can do it ingame.

(this is how it works on xboxOne, and i came to understand this will be the same as on PS4)

You can create a Frontier account in advance, however you can't link to it until the game is released. Connecting to an existing account will still create a new PS4 commander save - you cannot transfer an existing commander.

Thanks Arne.

Can I use my existing Frontier account login details?

Ninja'd thanks Michael :)

I assume it wont do anything weird to the existing commander? (ie wipe it or sth) :)

Hold the train, I'm confused! Do I need to set up a Frontier account to play this game on the PS4? I'm a PSN Plus subscriber, shouldn't that be enough?

The first time you load up you just give them an email and select a password then it's done :) totally forgot mine on xbox lol 😁

monkey darling, most of us would probably flunk the theory and the practical exam for a pilots licence IRL, probably all the booze and dirty minds we have here ;) lol

I'm worried his mind is going and we're going to have to let him multicrew in our ships as he doesn't get his pilot's license ;-)

Hey now, you all talking like this is common practice. This will be the first game I've owned on PS4 (perhaps all Playstations) where having a separate account is mandatory. Oi.

Ok, next dumb question - I signed up here to be chatting with all you gents (and gals), does that mean I'm signed up for Frontier in general?

Nope, goto www.frontierstore.net and create an account there, you can then link it when you first fire up Elite Dangerous on PS4.

Nope, this is just for the forums. Only joking pal, I'd be happy to let you fire my guns <disconnects trigger from firing mechanism>

On serious note though the more checks and balances in place, the better for me. If I play FIFA its not mandatory for me to create an EA account but they're gonna bug me about it every time I try and play.
