Greenhorn CMDR Ship Builds

I was thinking about a jack-of-all-trades build that's would be a good bang for a new CMDR's buck. I landed on a slightly-kitted Adder that's a meaningful mission runner and cred-builder. Nothing fancy or PvP worthy, certainly the type of ship that flies in a wing.

Thoughts? How do you intend to spend you first million?

not sure, i'm looking at having a long range explorer/smuggling DBX at some point, so would probably just save my first million

Actually I've already made my million, hence now, I actually have less time then money. My wife gets my money, Ed will get my time. Money isn't my objective (any more), keeping my mind (what's left of it) occupied is. So I recon onde I know how to not die, I plan to aquire a fleet of buses snd give you guys free rides at cost, so y'all can nap on those long expeditions to Colonia and beyond.

If we're going by a ship to use one you have around one million in assets? Cobra Mk III.

You definitely want to fit a D-rated power plant & FSD. Thrusters are optional. Leaving them stock is fine. Same for life support and sensors.

If possible, up my rating for the PD. Especially if you want to do some bounty hunting. You need weapon power for that. If only trading/passengers, a D-rated PD is all you need.

D-rated shields. They're not much weaker than A-rated, and much lighter. 16t cargo. Size 4 business cabin. That's your money earning sorted through trade & passengers.

SRV hangar so you can do surface missions. Module protection & Hull reinforcement, because it WILL keep you alive. Highly recommend reinforced alloys if you can, whilst working under around a million credits.

Multicannons & pulse lasers, all gimballed. If you can handle fixed, use them. Big savings to be made. Chaff and point defence.

This ship can do a lot in this build. Just keep it light. Reconfigure & specialise at a later date, when you have a bigger balance.

Try to buy from Li Yong Rui space. 15% discount on all ships & modules = more outfitting choice & cheaper rebuy.

All good advice :) I tend to D rate any new ship with maybe the fsd A rated as d rated modules are cheap and the lightest available for the ship (unless you undersize modules)

Then I normally add more expensive higher rated modules as I'm earning credits in the ship or after I'm happy with a build I've tested on a website :)

It's also worth trying to have at least double the price of the ship when you buy it as well as cash set aside for rebuy!

I know i'm going to grab an iEagle as soon as possible, I have seen a few builds but unsure what my first Mil would be spent on upgrading that ship. Research needed.

I'm with you. The Adder looks like my SUV IRL, and the stats are actually not bad for the price. I also like the idea of flying something unique (most people skip over Adder and go Cobra). I like that I can use this ship to try just about everything - mining, cargo-hauling, taxi service, bounty hunting, exploring, etc.

The Adder is also the baby sister to the Fer-De-Lance ;)

Don't discount the Hauler. It's a great little ship for all you budding explorers out there, capable of a 30ly jump range without engineering. Mine took me to Sag A* and back. D rate everything bar the power plant and jump drive, spring for the advanced scanner and head out "that-a-way" :)

Paint it with pirate skins, fit a cabin. Ferry wanted criminal scum.

I was going to post a build for an Adder.

But frankly, at a million credits, the only thing an Adder has over the Cobra is a much cheaper insurance premium.
