The Anti "Griefer" Tactics Thread (Updated Daily!)

Nice thread, you have taken the time to construct it in a nice, readable way so kudos for that and a rep thingy.

However, I think a lot of people are actively avoiding open not because they are bothered about rebuys and things, no, a lot are doing it simply to stick it to the "git gud" crowd.

Their inevitable superiority complex and explicit condecension is quite vomit inducing, considering this is just a game.

(In no way am I including OP in this description).

Surely Solo is better?

Not really...mobius is open play while solo is exactly what it says on the tin. Mobius gives us the option of interacting with others who dont wanna send us to rebuy without so much as a word spoken. If it werent fer mobius, this game would likely be intolerable ^

Nice effort op but likely too little too late in my case...open has already taught me everything I need to know, but yer bound to appeal to the naive players out there...good luck ^

Chance of getting griefed in Solo: 0%
Chance of getting griefed in Mobius: 0< %

Surely my Anti Griefer tactic is better then yours?

That's like saying you never get dunked on because you play tennis.

There's nothing wrong with solo or mobius but saying 'play mobius' in a thread about avoiding undesired interdictions (maybe you want to be interdicted sometimes, just not right this second) in open is pretty pointless.

+1 to DaveB's point about climbing out of the ecliptic, any time I enter a system where I suspect hostiles the first thing I do on jumping in is climbing up to gain time to assess the situation, plus it makes you a much less attractive target.

Kinda funny, whenever there is a thread about the bad bad griefers.....there is immedately a Mobius-lover in there too. :D

One thing I've found about Elite, ironically, which i haven't found in any other game...

The PVErs are actually so much more aggressively against the PVPers on here and other forums that i wonder who the real bad guys are!

Shooting someone with a laser in a game VS being compared to rapists and murders for doing it on the forum...hmm.

Problem with Elite is, its a game with PVPers in it, that is also played by very entitled PVEers who believe they have more right to an opinion within the franchise.

"With so many "WHYYYYY" threads I figured its time to consolidate good advice in one place in an attempt to prepare ourself and others in a positive way to play in OPEN."

Reading skills.

I'm a mobius player myself but even I have to agree with the OP here. Knowledge is power, and a good tool in defeating griefers is teaching people HOW to deal with griefers. Take someone unfamiliar with them and encourage them to try open witbout educating them and they're just gonna panic, die, and go leave open again for good, and simply telling them to "git gud" is insulting and unhelpful.

It's not a full solution to the problem, but good on the OP for trying something positive.

You make some good points about hyperbole... I think it's hard for some of us to see how it's fun for 4 people to jump on 1, even in a game. Equating it to real life is kind of silly. It's too bad the game doesn't have more for the pvp minded to do. I think a lot of the griefing/ganking is boredom at the top end of the game...

Well there is good people out there. Since 2 days there are patrols in Zeus interdicting wanted cmdrs or dropping on the wake of traders interdicted by pirates. Instancing unfortunately it's an issue and we cannot manage to get always proper Instancing

Aye i was just saying this in another post. For me, its because FD have tried to appeal to both crowds as if the game was 2 separate games. This means when they do meet, they just do not get on.

Eve, is very similar in many ways, the difference is in Eve when you get killed you lose a hell of a lot more than ED (pressing a button to get it all back) and yet there is not this hyper aggressive attitude toward the 2 player styles, its like ED has its own apartheid. No one at FD seems to sit down and wonder why this is.

True. They attack us on every occasion in the safe forum enviroment.
And also ingame, immedately they shout DIRTY DIRTY GRIEFER.
I think those people need relentless education.
Gonna start a Anti-Anti-Griefer event soon.
Compared to us they don't have the will to fight and enjoy the game.

I am genuinely torn about this.

I like to fly in open because there is no "solo" in the real Milky Way, but having tried engineers and found it appalling in terms of game play, I am reluctant to take my hard earned and barely affordable Keelback into a situation where some twelve year old (literally or mentally) with too much time on his/her hands destroys me and then boasts about it to his/her imaginary girl/boyfriend on Facebook/Instawhat/snapnowyou'vereallylostme.

I have decided to use the "meta" silent running mode - Open until I need to go to a known hotspot, at which point I silent run into Mobius PVE.

If Engineering was fun, I'd be up for it. It's not fun, it's bloody stupid, so I refuse to take part in it.

Hibachi.

One thing that's super easy to do, but so many people seem to cry about it:

Never, ever, go above 100 at heavy traffic stations, griefing sudokuwinders can't do anything to you if you don't go above the speed limit, they'll just end up blowing themselves up.

You believe everything what they have told you? :D
