Planetary Landings - Gyrocompass please

hello there,

navigating while descending to a planet or with the srv is kinda painfull, there i no real oreientation, only 2 numbers and you have to play whirling top until you find what you need.

there is already our little radar/scanner, why not a little overlay that at least indicates north/east/south/west and lat/long plus and minus? this would realy, realy help when looking for POIs.

thank you.

Isn't there already one? At the top it shows your orientation.
0° or north.
90° is east
180° south.
270° is west.
Then you have the up down angle.

Admittedly, it'd be nice to have an N, E, S, and W above them, but once you get used to it, it's pretty easy.

You have a point.

yes, but it's hardly compareable to some "real" navigation.

also it think it would be better to have stuff at one place (at our radar in this case) then splitting up, and just blow up the ui with a worser solution (excluding the up and down angle here).
with those degrees you still have to memorize where lat, long+- is and there is no real reason to do so, because humankind has better solutions since a few hundred years, this new invented wheel here is just like putting squares on your car to drive.

It is comparable to real navigation, as it's based on real live airplane HUDs.

Many HUDs do have a compass that includes N, E, W, and S instead of just the degrees, but I already said I wanted that. I prefer it all being in one big HUD instead of it being on the radar display.

Thing is do people in the future use N S E W. I fine with the numbers it fine. It like the clocks we use today. Most clock are digital clock with number. Not the Common clock that use hands years ago.. If you ask some children today they can't read the common Clock. It like they don't teach cursive writing. If you hand any teenager today to read Cursive Writing they are clueless. Unless that school teaches it.

@Galactic Fork
everyone has his favors, if you like it that way, no problem. but i think the least majority of players isn't a real life pilot, so using a system that is common to many (or extend the existing system with some realy (with 1 L again) minor tweaks) would help a great bunch of people - without the need to memorize things again.

@miketuppen
nice find, thanks.
again a tool that helps to workaround the flaws [up] this also shows that it would be great to actualy setup POIs and have a little helping dot for navigation/orientation.

@Lestat
thats actualy kinda sad. our schools here in germany still teach it, it's an given, writing cursive is faster.
and for the clock ... well, many stupid parents don't teach their kids basic nowdays. thats the world we are living in [wacko]
