Wanted: Interesting sights!

Hello fellow Commanders!

Since i've started playing Elite:Dangerous around Christmas, i'm fairly new to the game. I have done a short exploration trip to some nebula about 6kly north-west of the bubble, but nothing spectacular yet. Time to change that!

I'm planning to do a trip to Colonia, and from there to Sag A*. Then i would return back to the bubble with some detours, probably through The Conflux to look at those weird bases. Now i would like to ask if anyone has some points of interests along the way? Beautiful sights, spectacular stars, rainbow-colored nebulae, extraordinary landable planets or ELW's from your wildest dreams, all are welcome!

Thank you kindly!

I did this trip over last Christmas after playing for about the same amount of time you have. Amazing trip, you will truly appreciate the scale of Elite once you are out there!

The last 10,000ly home did see me itching with space madness to switch ship and do different things. Though it's quite an achievement, do it! :D

Always keep an eye out for discovering your first undiscovered earth like world.

How long did it take you and what ship were you flying? I imagine everything is pretty well discovered along the route to Sag A* though..

The word (acronym) "ELW" is uttered, thus I am summoned.

You might want to add Droju IG-M a103-0 (FD by CMDR Veersarge) on your way back, or perhaps on your way out. It's the only known ELW that orbits a solitary L dwarf star - no other primaries in the system. Its proximity to the dwarf star and the light's hue on the atmosphere are quite the sight.

Between Jaques and the old bubble, there's also Prua Phoe UT-H d10-47 (FD by CMDR Maleks), where an Earth-like moon has a very close orbiting landable moon of its own, with volcanism. And then, on your way to Sag A*, there's Eoch Pri AC-B d1-18 (FD by CMDR Guywano), which as far as I know has the closest landable moon to an ELM.
Also, if you don't mind taking a slight detour to the West when you're starting out, IC 1396 Sector RU-F d11-7 (FD by CMDR Pearcy) also has such a configuration - and a tourist beacon as well.

I'd recommend visiting all four of the above, they are all extremely rare sights.
Oh, and if you don't mind flying away from Sag. A* after you get to Jaques, Dryaea Flee GC-D d12-3089 has an Earth-like moon orbiting a ringed gas giant very closely (currently the record holder), completing an orbit in just 1.26 days. The system is also inside a nebula, so plenty of colours in the background.

Not at all, go downwards slightly or upwards before planning a route to Sag A, nearly every system you jump into will be undiscovered mid way through the trip.

I took out a brand spanking new Anaconda. It felt like a real achievement to finally earn it. So I was ready for a long trip out. Plus it can just hold EVERYTHING! Next time I explore on a long trip I'll take the DBX or the Type 6.

I was goning to post my selfie by the Sag A black hole, but I'll let you come upon that sight yourself for the first time :D

I guess i'll go up then, since i don't want to get stuck in the badlands below the galactic plane [noob] Still doubting if i'll take an AspX or an Anaconda. Thanks for the info! [big grin]

Also near Colonia is this Ammonia world which is the largest yet discovered in the Milky way and has a gas giant in orbit around it!

Perhaps the rarest and most unusual-looking planets in the galaxy are the "Green Giants", a tiny minority of life-bearing gas giant planets which glow with a vivid, fluorescent-bright green colour. I only know of four:
- Blua Hypa HT-F d12-1226, about 14,500 LY away and 1500 LY West of Gagarin Gate.
- Bleia Dryiae HF-W b35-1, about 5000 LY from Sol, just past the Lagoon nebula enroute to Colonia. Probably the best-looking of the three accessable ones.
- Col 285 Sector VU-M c8-1, at only a few hundred LY away from Sol it's barely outside the Bubble, but it's only got a tiny hint of green to it.
- Supermoose's Lost Planet - he took a screenshot of it but forgot to note the system details. Location unknown.

Near Colonia, I recommend checking out KYLOALL BF-A F2322 and Eol Prou KW-L c8-32, both of which have unusual gas giants.

Oooh, more mysteries! I know and have visited the Great Glowing Ball of Kyloall (the two other GGBs I have registered are at Gru Phio EL-Y e21 and Wrupu CW-N E6-68, neither of which I have yet visited), but I hadn't heard of any "unusuals" being found in Eou Prou. Tagged for visiting on my next voyage.

Oh, that's cool, I didn't know some of those, I'm on the lookout for them - the Eol Prou one I listed is of the "green glowing" variety.

When i did my trip to Colonia i started off towards 49 Cygni before heading up to one of the en route space stations (Sacaqawea) and then onto the Great Annihilator, Sag A*
and then onto Colonia.

there are loads of Neutron Stars/Black Holes and ELW/WW's go scan in the area (the majority of which are all waiting for your name to be attached to them). just filter the gal map for A,F,G & non sequence stars

my total trip was 2,632 jumps (on eco mode for the majority, hence the high number) and probably 2,500 of those systems were first discoveries.
just head a couple of 100ly off of the beaten track and its all unexplored.

you can do the trip in any ship you like flying.. I did my journey in a 36ly Cobra MkIII.

My next outing is going to be in a 43ly Dolphin...

Who knows where that might take me... perhaps i get some inspiration from this thread myself.

Interesting sites are mentioned and thus I am summoned :D

Seriously though people - a lot of noteworthy locations are being suggested here - please feel free to add them to the Galactic Mapping Project thread as well. We don´t have nearly enough Glowing Green Gas Giants or other oddities listed ;)

DeBeeste, you should be able to find a lot of other interesting stuff there as well - interactive map is found here.

Well, since you're in the area and asked for it... there's a nice green planetary nebula, surrounding a Neutron Star, slightly north of Sgr A*: Phrio Prao ND-S e4-952

I was there in October last year, but unfortunately the logs from that time don't contain the planetary data.

I think my Ammonia world has the record for largest mass not largest in size (although I need to submit it to Elite online).

Will do Corbin thanks for the heads up
