Haha, yeah, thanks guys. The company I work for had a clear-out (their first clear-out in 40 years) and they had amassed a room full of old computers including an IBM model 1 computer, complete. Someone snapped it up quick though but they still had several keyboards including a spare series 1 & 2 which I took home, unfortunately I couldn't get the series 1 to work. The key press on the model 2 has a beautiful metallic clicking sound and feeling that just pops under your fingers. Its only fault, the minus key on the num pad does not work.
While the IBM model 2 key press is beautiful the model 1 was simply spectacular! It had an even more metallic sounding key press and snappiness to it. I sometimes held it close to my ear and gently pushed the palm of my hand down on the keys just to listen to that sweet sweet crunch.

I'd highly recommend the IBM keyboards to anyone. All you need is a thing plugged into a thing and you're good to go. There is a company in the states however that bought the original IBM buckling spring keyboard patent and now make them brand new with USB connection for around £100. Be jealous no longer!!

Mechanical keyboards of gamers are the cream of keyboards. But noisy

:)

Very early C64 (notice the lack of colour sticker and VIC-20 style keyboard. I've had to replace the keyboard in recent years with another early one and the case itself has become discoloured but still works perfectly. Notice the later model 1541-II disk drive (which were a lot more reliable than earlier models) and the SD2IEC device which I added recently (basically load up a load of D64 disk image files - legal of course! And it acts like a second 1541. You can even copy stuff direct to floppy disk and back :) )

Apologies for the poor photo quality, think the lens on my phone camera needs a clean.

Yes! I owned both of those!! [woah] [up]
I also had a similar boxing game. This must have been around 82-83? I was in middle school back then.

Me too, I used to play these constantly, and can still hear in my mind all the beepy sounds. 82-83 sounds about right as I was in middle school. Looking at those pics on google really took me back.
I also recal owning an electronic pinball game all lit with red led lights (which were all there was then in far back land) ... I'm going to see if I can find it !

UPDATE, pretty sure this was it !

And i was handed down My Snes alongside with a huge pack of legos to my cousin. Alongside of that I had A C 64 which is broken beyond hope, And also have some old PCs in pieces, but i dont use them, and neither planning to put them together. What for? If i want to play old PC games simply use windows compatibility mode, or install a dos emulator. And also had some old atari copy "gaming console", with a lot of simple games like frogger, & co.

Old handheld quartz games? i had and still have some of em, some are still in working conditions, others with damaged liquid crystal scene.

Anyone remember these?

Ahem.... PICTURES!!! I WANT PICTURES!! :D

Yes, yes I do! That was our "family" gaming console. Wow, that's reignited some neurons that have layed dormant for many years.

You must spread some Reputation around before giving it to Flimley again.

Trouble is they don't always work, especially for a lot of mid nineties DOS games like Ultima 7 and Elder Scrolls 2: Daggerfall. Did manage to knock together a cheap Pentium II Win 98 machine that would run pretty much anything until it threw a hissy fit with my cheap 2GB Compact Flash card which I was using as a hard drive. :(

You can find them in related sites with patch ups so they can run or even converted to Windows mode, and since most of them classified as abadonware, or released from copyright it's legal.
Anyhow, i suggest Dos box if you haven't met with it yet.

Ah, shows how often I delve into playing classic stuff these days.

Yes, DOSbox is awesome, I'd also highly recommend it if anyone is looking to refresh themselves in some golden oldies :)

Well, okay then:

Some of you will have seen this machine in the thread where I started the restoration work; well here she is again, fresh from a deep clean and bleach:

Still a bit yellow in places, but still beautiful. And yup, that there on the left is an original Commodore made A501 RAM expansion:

Wowee! That extra 512KB will be more than anybody could ever need in the forseeable future! The battery leaked, but luckily did no damage to the board and surrounding components. A replacement battery (of the exact same type, for authenticity) is on order.

And... for Patrick's pleasure... I also found this:

Alas, it is with a heavy heart that I must report that Disk 1 has a read error, and the game will not load. I DEMANDZ A REEFUND!!!!111one gEt wiTH THE pr0gram Fronteer!*

It's not all bad though; I still have this:

I'm thinking of having it properly mounted and framed, if I ever have any money again.

And finally, just a little photographic fun I had while cleaning the keyboard:

*nah, just kidding. I'll settle for some free paint jobs and a ship kit or two.

Awesome ! I also have the box but for Atari ST and the map of the galaxy, of course. I have always been impressed by the Amiga 500 even if I had an Atari ST
I liked the characteristics of these two machines and their aesthetics

:)

That system looks nearly new now, congrats! What method did you use for cleaning your case? My old breadbox is looking the worst for wear as you can see.

Indeed. Both great machines, with their own strengths and weaknesses. But Amiga is better obviously, and Atari owners are the enemy! :p

I never kept up to date with what was happening on the Atari scene, since I was Amiga through and through. I remember the Falcon, but I don't think it sold well? And I have no idea what sort of expansion/accelerator options were available for Atari models.

Still; happy days, so many moons ago.

Colour restoration was done using a home-made retrobright solution - basically just peroxide cream (yes, the stuff used to bleach hair) with whatever variant of Oxi-Clean that you can get (in my case, Vanish) mixed into it. Brush it onto the plastic, wrap in cling film to prevent drying out, and leave it in the sun for a few hours. There are plenty of tutorials - just Google Retr0bright and peruse the multitude of guides!
