News Elite Dangerous - 2.4 and beyond

Reading between the lines :

"We’re happy to be able to confirm that the next major updates following 2.4
We will be giving the Cobra IV some love because we know you want it
will focus on core gameplay, existing features, quality of life and other improvements!"

Do not release that roadmap. That was your problem with season 2. Telling the modern gaming community your plans has zero benefits. They will force you to stick to the roadmap despite better alternatives (such as delaying ship launched fighter and multi-crew for core gmae improvements first) and will still complain you dont tell them what is going on. Keep your ability to tailor each update to benefit the game the best at that specific time. Do not trap yourself again. Your attempts at pleasing the "community" will never work. Dont screw over those that arent trolls by forcing potentially bad updates on everyone.

The roadmap wasn't the problem, it was the addition of specific dates that caused the issues ;).

Positive news, especially about what will come beyond 2.4 (not really hyped about that one afaic) as the lack of depth and polishing to the core game has been highly detrimental to its evolution and has been a cause of the fanbase erosion over the last 2 and a half years.

Just a small question though: as the Anaconda's cockpit gets changed (although I have no clue of what was the exact issue with it), is there a chance the FDL's cockpit gets changed too? The off-centered seat is highly distubing and the canopy pillar stuck right in the middle of the line of sight is extremely off-putting. I sold the ship back because of that and I know many people did so too. A more well- thought design, in line with what we have on eg. the Vulture, would be extremely appreciated and would boost the FdL's sales. Any chances to see that happen?...

Really? You think the whiners made this happen?
That is like saying that prayer makes the sun rise.

Lets call them the more VOCAL Critics of the current state of the game. Players like myself and Mengy for example. They/we totally helped to make this happen. Have you not been paying attention to the forums over the last 5 months? When the community's discontent is at a high enough volume that it gets mentioned in patch notes, you know it is high enough to be taken seriously by FD.

And what was the overriding theme of that discontent? FIX the core game before moving on to more elaborate features. Sounds like Frontier is planning to do precisely that.

As for your analogy... Better luck next time dude. This one was an epic fail. Not even remotely close to an analog of this situation. ;)

I like this idea don't get me wrong but I'm worried that we're getting a mechanic upon a mechanic that's a total grind and a thing to use.
Same time it's about time that we're getting a narrative in the game story missions are not an option but an obligation !

Nah, if I want to be the "hero" of a story with a single driving narrative, then I will play Mass Effect or CoD. Thr beauty of Elite-going back all the way to 1984-is the ability to "do your own thing".

Naaah not buying it Fdev..

Fits the usual mo building hype with empty promises with nothing shown or detailed.

'We’re happy to be able to confirm that the next major updates following 2.4 will focus on core gameplay, existing features, quality of life and other improvements! We’re delighted to be investing a considerable amount of development and effort into making the core gameplay experience even better for our fantastic community or players.'

So people have to pay you even more to fix the broken car you sold them.. just dandy.

I agree, seems like smoke and mirrors, no content just like each weeks newletters.

Reading the OP I get this:
"Changes to things like C&C (aka C&P), PowerPlay, and other important stuff is coming SoonTM"

Wish I hadn't heard that for the last two years :(

Nice content and tone in Zac's posts, I'm feeling quietly confident for the future in a manner I haven't for a while, and very pleased to hear that the core gameplay is central to their medium term plans.

Good job FDEV, and pretty please, some love for exploration mechanics.

So, after a long period of silence we get... for 2.4, an announcement that there's going to be an announcement on 2.4 later this summer. But wait, for after s3 there will be an announcement that will be announced on the event that announces 2.4 which was announced now. Frontier are so meta.

Since the launch of Elite Dangerous: The Commanders a number of weeks ago, we’ve received messages from members of the community eagerly awaiting details about the 2.4 update and the future of the game.
Man, FD are so polite.

I think "members of the community eagerly awaiting details about...." could have been translated in many cases to "members of the community incessantly whining about...." [big grin]
