Season Ending Soon: PS4 Owners getting the short end of the stick?

So the "Horizons" season is almost finished. Which I presume means there will be a new "expansion"/"season" to purchase. Okay, I generally don't have a problem with this model[1].

However it means PS4 players are probably going to get "horizons" now, have it for 6 or so months until "new horizons" is released (probably December). PC players have been on horizons since Dec 2015, so I assume 2 years.

It seems like PS4 players will need to buy the game, horizons & new horizons in a 6 month period, while everyone else got at least 2 years for horizons.

Am I missing something? Has Frontier considered this?

[1] ie, Game makers need to pay for things, but users don't need to keep paying if they are happy to restrict themselves to older content.

You're still going to get all of the content that we PC players get but only after Sony moves the patch through plus the Patch on launch (V. 2.3.10) will add stability and Quality of Life for everyone. After that, we get 2.4 which will add content as the story moves forward. At 3.0, the following patches are going to overhaul the base gameplay. As for new seasons(3.0 and on), it looks like you won't be paying for a new chunk of content for a year. Most likely, that'll be supplemented with the cosmetics (paintjobs, Weapon/engine colors, Ship Kits, etc.).

It is not necessary to purchase horizons pass in order to play the (core)game.

If you buy the non-Horizons version, you get 1.1 to 1.7 (Community Goals to the current Mission System).

Unfortunately for us PS4 players, there's no way to avoid this. We're the last to the party after all so we'll just have to suck it up.

On xbox the main game was 30 quid at launch then horizons was a 20 quid upgrade so you're getting it ten quid cheaper :)

would you have preferred ps4 support be delayed to 3.0?
actually, you can wait out until 3.0 and make a single purchase, i bet at that point horizons will be very cheap or maybe even included.

you get the same as everybody, you just came in later. stuff happens.

now how about linux???

we are not technically last, nintendo didn't even get off the launch pad. and linux is still a pipe dream so be thankful we got 3 place and enjoy

Don't forget that when you buy Horizons, it's not removed when 3.0 shows up. You keep it. It's just an expansion.

If I recall, FDev would have to re-write E: DH for the Switch due to it's architecture.

come on, you will be surprised by how much we can do in 6 months. hell i wouldn't be surprised if half of us have fully engineered ships ready for anything. plus better late than never

Acidburn, you'd be amazed at how much a ship feels when you've got the modifications that fit your ship's play style. You might think that an Overcharged weapon is better but for a ship that can't turn well (or just like to snip Long Range may be more appropriate.

It'll also feel more like the ship is "yours" and more satisfying to fly.

Not last at all, you're leap-frogging the macOS version which is still waiting for Horizons.

i have already decided to be a full time explorer/alien archaeologist with a bit of smuggling/bounty hunting on the side. but seriously i can not wait for that first view of space when i leave the first mail slot

Indeed enjoy. For the money we get a hell of a nice game. A good night out often costs more. So why all these complains.

I agree. So you pay about £40 for a new game and get 100 hours gameplay which equates to 40p per hour! From what I have seen Elite Dangerous players have had 500-2000+ hours in the game which makes it even better value. To have to pay another £20 in the future for some new extra gameplay seems like good value to me.

Hear hear! I'm always boring people with this fact who don't game and they just don't seem to get it. I played AT least 500 hours of FO4. At £40 that's 8 PENCE PER HOUR. Cinema trip? around £15 for two hours. Rent a movie digitally? £3 for two hours. Yes, O.K. you have to factor in the console itself, but I got ten years out of my 360. Gaming is ridiculously good value entertainment.

i have 2 goals so far, look for the voyager's and pioneer 10. then go in to deep space and get lost for a few months exploring hoping i get at least one unique discovery before season 3. biggest long shot ever lol

My point was more on the time line here for PS4 owners.

I personally am a kickstarter backer, preordered horizons and am about to get the PS4 version + horizons. And it's one of the best buys for money vs time I've ever spent. I don't regret buying any component.

However if I need[1] to get a new season / expansion in the next 6 months for PDS4 I'll be a little miffed.

[1] need as in "want to keep getting the newly supported features"

Thats just life unfortunately. You go and buy a PS4 in June and then some schmuck does a July sale for a PS4 at $100 less!!!

C'est la vie.
