Quince is even more broken than we tought

In ~1000 hours of play, the primary conflict in the game for me has not been part of the game universe, per se, but the conflict between doing what I want to do, and making credits in order to buy ships that are better at doing what I want to do. I've put in a lot of time; Quince just helps me spend less of my time on the annoying conflict that always drives me away from the game, so I can do what I want without the burden of wanting to be able to afford different ships.

I realize this is a variant on what a lot of people have already said, but it's just my .02

Casual - "game is a grind"

Elite - "Only if you make it a grind. I don't grind."

Casual - Leaves

Elite - Fly's to Quince

I don't like this grind for grind exchange.

How so?

Posted this in another thread as well but maybe you can answer me. The way I see it, the more I look at it the more it seems to be -

1 - Bubble: Take scan mission - Hyperjump - Scan - Hop back = Well done CMDR mission completed! *Pat on back*

2 - Quince: Take scan mission - Scan - Hop back = Waaaaaaaaaaa EXPLOITER!!!!!

What am I missing?

A missed hyperjump and off with ye heed?

Lol

Firstly it says "Take scan mission". This is NOT what's happening and you know it. Despite Frontiers failed effort to thwart scan mission stacking to beyond 3, people stack 20 and all missions complete at once. This is and it's game-wide, not just Quince. Quince only serves to highlight this.
Also the logic that the same minor faction would have you do what is essentially the same mission multiple times is illogical.

Then you have the tourist beacons. I take 3 sets of passengers and all want to go to a different beacon. But I can take them all to just one and all missions complete. Imagine this scenario if you're a taxi driver. See if the other two passengers pay you.

These are game mechanics that are broken and are thus being exploited. I will say again as this part doesn't seem to register with people.... The mission board system is a game-wide flaw. Game wide. All of the game... THAT is what needs fixing and will therefore fix Quince. The fix seems straightforward to me but FDev seem to be dragging their heels on this. This same flaw allowed Robigo and Sothis to flourish (althought Robigo made more sense as all destinations were pretty much different).
The logic isn't right and it's not about making people grind either because that needs looking at too.

So yeah you missed something and just read something you liked the look of.

Exactly.

Quince is functioning as intended. What you do in Quince you can do anywhere you like.

Hopefully people will stop yelling 'Exploiters' now.

As for FD fixing it, well, what's to fix? Get mission, run mission, get credits. All anything will do is drag the time out to get credits and we all know that is why any shortcut is just that: a way to save time, sorely needed in ED.

So apparently the Guardian Ruins scan bug isn't an isolate case. If someone in the same instance than you scan a randomly generated data point, it will also complete your missions as well, without you needing to even step a foot in your SRV.

I don't get how you're not seeing that this as duff game mechanics. That you can do it anywhere is irrelevant. It doesn't make it right.
I agree about the grind thing but if this is the way around it to alleviate peoples time restrictions then maybe the problem is somewhere else.
Also if you can't sink a reasonable about of time into this game then you bought the wrong game. Elite is and always has been a time-sink.

Hey, I see it. I however play the game as given to me by the FD Devs. Their duff-up, not mine.

I do however take umbrage at the fact of people (not you) labelling the behaviour at one particular system as an exploit when it is clearly not.

Exploit is the correct term for Quince behavior though. The passenger system works as designed, but clearly not as intended (stacking 20 missions to the same spot). Feel free to read more on https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Video_game_exploits (specifically the game mechanics section).

Expecting any kind of reset or wipe for it is just being delusional though.

I agree. And the game content is the same whether I spend 6 days or 6 months grinding out an Anaconda. I'm not missing out on any game depth by using Quince. About the only thing I'm missing out on is the on-going attempted brainwashing by the 'enlightened' fan boys.

Super sad exploit unmanaged, it does ruin the game for all... the get rich quick schemes. FD used to deal with this kind of thing in a matter of days, what happened?

How does it ruin your game ? I would say it does ruin the game for new players, because they will miss out the fun of the small ships, the progress they make with basic stuff, the archievements, the good feeling when you finally gain something for your hard work.
I mean even i did not use all the small ships for my progress ( i went sidewinder, Adder, Cobra MK3, Asp, Vulture, Python, T9, Conda and later serveral other ships ). The most money i did make with Community goals back then when i was in small ships.
Trading was mostly some rare trades with asp and later T9.
I had tons of fun using all thease ships, keeping em and buy new ones.

All this stuff a new player will not experience that way if he makes all this money that quick. He/She will rather buy the few ships that are most usefull for the different roles and use them.
I guess they wont bother with most stuff unless its nessessary and just looking for the next big money maker, with is kinda sad.

But i dont really care about it and it wont affect me. If they think this game is all about money ok they will later realyse it is not. They will say this game is boring and there to less to do.

As for the rankings, well it is sure a bit sad that the elite ranks will become cheap to obtain, then again its a game.
You can always ask for a screenshot of the stats to see how much some player did work for his Elite rank. Because thease Mission stuff does not count for trading profit, for exploring (scanned systems and payout) and even confirmed kills might be less untill reached combat elite (because of the bigger ship).
But actually why really care about it ? I enjoy the game and thanks to solo and private group i dont have to meet griefers or cheaters.

You cant blame people for doin it, blame Frontier for that buggy or lame game mechanics.

In fact no... lets post this....
I only ask that you please read some or all of the comments on the YT video before you judge too harshly.
I won't respond to the same old tired arguments for this. Play your own way some said ? Fine... I did.
This is in protest at Frontiers silence, inaction and/or unwillingness to nerf or fix Quince as it bleeds out credits to all comers thanks to broken game mechanics (detailed in the vid).
Have at it guys....

And fear not for the victims, they are being taken care of as we speak (trying to).... it's all good.

Wow. That's some serious personal slight. I mean. Yeah okay it's broken, we get it.

But there is so much Ahab chasing Moby at the moment on this it's clear people just can't think straight and are turning a bit feral.

This is a symptom of the BGS doing what it does; stop whining about outcomes, wuery the input forces. Otherwise it's like children stamping their feet and then having a tantrum, why on earth would a developer consider such childish tirades?

The game is broken in so many ways. It needs some love from the developer. This, this purtitanical hellfire isn't helping. It will get some love now. They got the message.

Give them some time, for heavens sake.

I can't/don't grind doing the same missions for long, but would like to visit Quince in my Asp to experience some of the planetary scans (replenish on Specialised Legacy Firmware) and passenger missions. What's the minimum business cabin size for VIP tourist missions?

Give them some time, for heavens sake.

It's so easy just to say someone is whining because they make a complaint about something but I think to do is is to try and devalue the validity of the complaint. This is a legit concern and it's not whining. I've posted my thoughts on numerous occasions on this thread and it goes nowhere other than to listen to people talking about salt or being told to let people play their way. If letting people play their way is the way to go then that is what I went out to do. Only it wasn't really my way, it was an emotional response based on sheer frustration at the silence and inaction from FD on this. It felt like I was out of words and backed into a corner to do something to try and press the point. This video is the result.

Give them time? What to fix 20 missions all completing after one single action ? They've had 2 years to fix that !
As for the tourist beacons, fine. Time is ok for that one. But when there is silence you don't even know that they (FDev) acknowledge that there is a problem !
Quince is messed up and there can be no argument there. To make this about letting people make shed-loads of money if they want to is the wrong approach. That's just to turn a blind eye to it because it's a nice exploit for loads of cash. It ignores the actual issues of the game that some may not even care about. But I'm one of the ones that does care, and this video is how I strongly express that and it's not something I'm proud of either.
Discussion goes nowhere it seems. 42 pages and nothing from Frontier. Anyway 7 CMDRs lost ships, it happens every day. Those mostly harmless CMDRs in Beluga's and Pythons, I'm sure have their re-buys well covered so just a minor inconvenience. If not... well don't do Quince in Open unless you're prepared to risk your ship.
I wasn't the only one out there with the same agenda. And if you're a new guy with a big ship, flaunt it in Open at your peril. Others will target you for that very reason. Get rich quick pilots who are not equipped or ready to face or perhaps all the dangers of Open.

Stop the bleeding Frontier. You did it with Robigo (which was a different set of cicrumstances and nerfing was not the answer there), you did it with Sothis and you rightly fixed the skimmer/massacre mission bug... can we see some consistency ?

If as you say 'they got the message' then this video was worth every minute even though it pains me to watch it back.

I remember watching a video of yours a couple of weeks ago, you were trying to play Star Citizen, but everytime you found your ship after getting out of some installation, and then flying off into space from that installation, you kept getting ganked by someone who had been playing the game for a longer time than you, who was in a better ship. I remember you getting very frustrated that you couldn't just "Play your own way".

Way to go for turning into that ganker judge , jury and executioner.

Ye gods. Step away from the game and go have a holiday or something.

We get it, we really do. You have a problem with Quince that's causing you to become unhinged. It can't be good for your blood pressure surely.

FDev will fix this (and break sundry other things in the process) and you can get back to doing what you like to do safe in the knowledge that no-one else is taking the easy route to credits/rep/mats and having no effect on your game.

That is a very fair point. But it doesn't help fix Quince and the two things are not related. I'm sure those being killed in Quince are saying similar things. The reasons for the ganker in Star Citizen were for kicks, this wasn't. Lets not lose sight of the fact that this was a very limited strike.
In, 7 kills and out, finished. If I was in it for kicks I'd still be there.
