After convincing myself that I would only make more runs Because I Was Having Fun Anyway Whether Or Not I Managed An Improved Time, and a half-dozen aborted attempts... I clocked 6:22.

Unofficial soundtrack is here, I highly recommended firing that up in a background tab before watching the below.

Back to you, Nookie! Think you can break the 6 minute barrier? (Or anyone else who's been waiting in the wings or rising through the leaderboard?)

Whereas I on the other hand am now consistently getting worse and Worse and WORSE.

Four runs this morning, all over the half hour mark.

Bleurghhhhhhhhhhhh

Might have to stop doing this before I start to hate it.

Oh dear, me and Raiko are making the team look bad ... for the record, I think you can probably put Aken B., Cookiehole, Bruski and Foxtwo all down as team Buckyball (as long as they don't mind ... I know people sometimes have multiple allegiances).

I know the feeling, haven't beaten my first posted time. get points where it looks good, i.e. racing for 6 minutes, eta 15, and then clip a rock or my computer decides to repeat the last move I made suddenly.

In other news, I have updated our donation tracker/site on Just Giving https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/CandyCrewGuild. We will be hosting our live stream on my twitch https://www.twitch.tv/darthraijiin on Saturday/Sunday, I have updated these details in the OP as well. We are also thinking of extending the prizes from first place to maybe up to 5th? stay tuned on that, as it's TBD. Anyway, I just got home from work, so I will be up for awhile still, get those times in, and I can update the board again tonight! good luck everyone.

Cheers Raijiin. I've done a bit of race promotion on the ED Community and Hutton truckers facebook pages (oooh, Lave Radio, forgot that ... I'll do that in a minute) as well as on my own (although god knows what my friends and relatives will make of it) and I've put my money where my mouth is over on the justgiving page.

Flive fast (and give generously) everyone! :D

Ok, after seeing all the incredible sub-10 mins times, I was wondering what kinda times we'd get if people "cheated"?

So I went and cheated.

So... here's my start pic:

Duration: 4 min 28 secs.

Given all the recent incredibly super fast times, this time may not even seem "cheaty".

But here's the full video of the cheat :)

(might need to let it finish processing first)

Anyway guys, don't get bent out of shape, k? I just did it for fun, and this is not a submission of race times :D

Ok, after seeing all the incredible sub-10 mins times, I was wondering what kinda times we'd get if people "cheated"?

So I went and cheated.

 disgraceful behaviour! :p

I guess if we weren't such an honest bunch of people then the race submission could include before and after "total SRV distance travelled values" (I think I used that for the first Total Recall event).

Incidentally, on the subject of flying a ship from Kings Holdings to Lopez (or more accurately, from Lopez back to Kings Holdings, which is what I've been doing), I've been getting much better (and faster) at jumping into SC, then angling down to just above the horizon, then spinning upside down so I can eyeball the approaching station, then flipping back and dropping down just above the station ready to request docking permission. It's an interesting little manoeuvre and one I've been considering making a Buckyball race out of (provisionally entitled something like "Planet Hopping"). If I could find a nice planet with 5 or 6 dockable bases on it then a race requiring the pilot to visit all of them (in any order) could pose interesting decisions about whether to hop between them at low altitude (as just described) or get up out of the drop zone in order to then do full glide approaches.

Unfortunately at a certain point the distance traveled gets to be a pretty inaccurate measurement as mine appears to only read out to the nearest 100kms.

That's a cool idea. I think the most bases I've seen on one body is 4, but there must be some with more.

-- EDIT --

A quick troll through EDDB turned up HIP 72043 1, which has five, plus an orbital station: https://eddb.io/body/15604

That's about 134 ly from Sol, though -- there may be closer options.

Please put my entry under the "Buckyball Race Club" team. :D

I didn't notice team was an option, and I'm not sure I'll have time to run again before the race is over, since we've got guests this weekend.

Also, my head is exploding from the sub 10 minute times.

Ok, New updated Leader board, pretty sure it's correct, maybe? The field is getting bigger which is dope. I think that a lot of us at CCG are still waiting for tomorrow to submit a time. I might do it tonight if I like my run, idk, but the idea is to do it while streaming. I have added a few people that I know are interested including me without times at the bottom until then. I'll probably be tooling around in open tonight if anyone wants some pointers or anything. I gotta get some more practice in and maybe collect more repairs for tomorrow, 23 might not be enough. Also my practice time yesterday probably isn't going to cut it anymore, it was only a 6:55, didn't even bother submitting it. Gotta go fast. Oh, and thanks Alec for helping out n such. Getting the word out will help heaps. also, update on prizes, we will be doing top 5 spots for prizes, but the prizes are secret. :)

While the SRV can be really frustrating at times, the feeling when you realize your flyving has improved quite a bit is hard to beat :)
A couple of attempts today, one live race with Aken B. during which suddenly another commander appeared overhead in a battle with the system defence force resulting in a pretty epic setting (unluckily we both had to abort the run due to bad landings).
And a nice improvement time-wise; I certainly won't challenge the top slots, but 10 minutes doesn't seem that far out of reach anymore compared to when I started.
I've been seeing speeds above 80 m/s more frequently during the last few runs and while my landings haven't gotten much better I seem to be able to get my SRV pointed back in the right direction in time a bit more reliably :D
