Recording Videos on PS4

Share button > Sharing and Broadcast Settings > Video Clip Settings > Length of Video Clip

Don't think you can turn it off. 30 seconds is the shortest.

Aaaaahhhh! I see now. I've only ever started it manually. For anyone else reading this who missed it like me, if you long press the Share button (depending on what you have it set to), you can choose 'Save Clip to Gallery' and it will just save the last 'x' minutes of video to your gallery, where x is what you set the recording length to. So, Old Duck you can't completely turn it off but if you go to Video clip settings in the Sharing and Broadcasts section 30 seconds is the minimum.

Cheers, this is really useful to know stormy!

Thanks everyone! One more question - what's the file format / codec?
Media Info from one of my PS4 pro videos (it's set to 1080p recording)

If I do videos, I hope to keep them relatively short. I'm not a fan of unedited videos with 20 minutes of menu-clicking.
I wrote a small guide on NeoGaf how to cut videos on your PS4. I do that every time after I record videos to save storage and time:

Some tips and tricks for sharing content with the PS4:
  • Trimming videos significantly reduce the file size and build a good basis for directly uploading or editing them (e.g. with ShareFactory)
  • save a video after every scene you like (Share +

) --> when trimming the video you can jump right to the end and have the scene you want
  • trim your saved videos directly after your play session (as you have the scenes still in mind)
A small tutorial how to trim videos on your PS4 without using ShareFactory (many people don´t seem to know that feature):

  1. Select Capture Gallery
    icon_capture_gallery.png
  2. Select the game and video clip you want to trim

  3. Press Options and select Trim

  4. Start the trim process (choose the scene you want to save)

  5. Press OK (overwrite or create a new video). If you want to create a second trimmed video out of the same source file, choose the latter option
  6. Now you can upload a trimmed clip or use the clips as a basis for editing (e.g. with ShareFactory)

I use the share feature quite a lot, so if there should be any other questions, go ahead. I would recommend to set the share button control to "Easy Screenshots". Short press -> screen, hold the button -> open share menu and save the last x (depending on your preset) minutes of gameplay. (Settings) > [Sharing and Broadcasts] > [SHARE Button Control Type]

I only hope this forum PS4 players continue to upload various data like Nerix just did, even I could understand it.

I'm thankful that people are not saying, "Google it for yourself!" The PS4 forums in particular have been very helpful and informative, and having actually searched for these answers before posting the questions (I use DuckDuckGo, of course), I still find the forum the place to get the best answers.
