Noob question - Why are there no rewards for reaching ELITE status

Hi All

I am still in the early stages of playing the game. It has many positives and a few negatives, but then that is to be expected.

One thing I am puzzled at is that there does not really seem to be a "reward" for reaching Elite status - other than the fact that you have reached Elite status.

Seems a bit strange - after all if I rank up in the Federation or Empire then I have access to exclusive ships - could not the same logic be applied? Three new ships with a focus on the three different areas you can reach ELITE status on - Trading, Exploring, Fighting.

More than likely this has been discussed before - I did say I am new and still finding my way around the game.

But, given that there is a huge time investment in reaching those levels should there not be a reward?

Jameson Memorial is the reward (carries all non unique modules and all ships @10% discount)

Thank you Loki for your reply - but I am even more confused now, as I know that I can shop around and get 15% discounts at various places for ships already.... is there anything else you get for the hours needed to attain Elite?

Jameson's advantage is that it has all ships and modules. No need to shop around ever.....

It is useful being able to go to Jameson Memorial. While (with a load of shopping around) you can get larger discounts, Jameson Memorial has all ships and standard modules in their showrooms. The only thing that could prevent you from buying a ship is if it requires Rank (Federal or Imperial) and you have not achieved that rank.

I have bought all of my major ships there, and outfitted them there as well. My Asp Explorer is stored there, and when I take her out for a meander any Astronomical Data I get is sold there (barring a CG).

Back early on in the development of the game the higher paying missions were tied to higher rank along with the difficulty of the mission. It was more of an incentive to gain rank. Maybe in the future, development will be more rewarding regarding rank. There is talk of more meaningful military rank missions being developed. I for one am very interested in the coming changes.

As as others have said there is Jameson's, but over the last couple of days I have been thinking similar thoughts.
it would be good if there were "Perks", nothing game changing just a little extra. So say for exploration elite you could have an engineer that would combine an ADS and DSS into one slot with a bit less weight than the two combined, or a Life support backup unit that saves your cartographic data every jump?
For combat it could be an extra 5% on bonds and bounties handed in or another engineer that speeds up your basic scanner that shows if a ship is wanted.
And for trade an "Advanced Planetary Approach Suite" which gives you a docking computer and auto planetary landing (below 2.5g only)?
like I said nothing that would give an edge in pvp or anything game breaking, just a perk!

I LIKE this idea!

The 15% discount is a long standing bug associated with buying modules/ships in Li Young Rui systems.

I think it should only apply to modules (not ships) and only if Li Yong Rui is at the top of the power leader boards, but it is bugged.

longest standing "bug" in the game if it is a bug. It's been reported as a bug from the day it was introduced and it still stands. I'm very happy with it as it stands as my entire fleet of 32 ships is all discounted :)

But then you've reached Elite in trade and exploration, so why continue those traits.... ?

Are you saying once you reach triple elite you are done playing?

As for the OP, I think having all modules and all ships in the same station is a pretty awesome reward. I know as soon as I hit elite in combat I packed up my bags and moved to Jameson. And my home was in GCRV 1568, right next door to Diaguandri in LYR space. Maybe a special Elite paint you could pick for a specific ship (I'd like one for every ship, but let's not get to crazy) for each Elite rank.

It's a nice convenience option. Personally the prospect of a further 5% points off elsewhere is enough to make me not use Jameson's, but horses for courses.

Don't forget - your ship's total cost affects your rebuys too! If you visit the rebuy screen as often as I do, you may wish to hunt down the best discounts you can get ;)

It's one of those bugs that no-one complains about!

I'm not a fan myself and would like it to be fixed. After all, it makes every other discounted system in the game redundant, provided you don't mind a bit of travel.

[up] On reaching ELITE status, in anything, the CMDR is rewarded with access to the Founder's World system (the Shinrarta Dhezra system). There, at Jameson Memorial Space Station the CMDR can purchase any ship or module his or her little black heart desires, all at a 10% discount. A 10% discount does not sound like much until you realize your 10% "discount" on a fitted-out Gutamaya Cutter is enough to just about purchase and outfit a Python! Whenever I want a new ship I jump over to Jameson Memorial in the taxi, fly the new ship back and then ship the taxi. o7

I reckon as a perk, Elite status in any discipline should automatically grant you one of the senior ranks in the Navy Auxiliary of your choice....not both, as it stands, since that's just silly...as it is already :)
