Any more ship kits, perchance?

Hey guys,

Has anyone heard of any news/rumors/facts of any more forthcoming ship kits? The ones we've gotten to-date have been good, but I was hoping that they'd have kits for all ships rather than just a select few. I know some ships would be difficult to create kits for since most of the kits really just tack on some extra wings and there are some ships that have more than their share of wings (some could even be called redundant (Beluga, I'm looking at you)). I just love the idea of being able to customize the look of your ship outside of a paintjob or skin.

Here's an idea: FD, I know, I know, this probably won't be possible, but dream with me for a moment. You know how we can now create our own commander (Holo-me)? This isn't a new idea; plenty of sports games, for instance, allow you to create your own player, some with very high levels of detail. How about something similar only you're creating your own ship?! Just throw together a bunch of different designs for different modules (thrusters, fuselage, wings, cockpits, etc) and let people assemble them as they wish! Yes, they may end up looking kinda Frankenstein-ish, but they'd be your own personal Frankenstein.

Any thoughts?

Fed Corvette was shown in the last beta. No news on anything and no timescales.

Usually theres new cosmetics every Friday, at least there has been for several months now. We all wait with baited breath as to what will appear each week.

I pray every day that I never need to see those stupid, terrible, ugly as sin looking "windows" on the side of the Cutter. Or that terrible taper at the midsection where it meets the wing. I don't know if there is a body kit big enough to fix the level of uggo it has..

You take that back!

As of right now we know there are at least a Corvette and FDL ship kits along the way.

They might be holding on to them for extra money for conventions though. Seems like they generally save big stuff for right before and during them or hold sales for them.

I'm constantly checking every Friday for the Corvette kit though.

Delaying the release of these kits doesn't make any sense to me. If it looks good I'll buy the one for my FdL, if there isn't enough combinations that I like then I won't buy it. I don't fly the Corvette so I'll not be buying that one. Holding on to the release isn't going to make any difference as to whether I buy the kit or not.

They won't sell those until after they try peddling all the rubbish paint packs and flight suits they came up with when they should've been monitoring beta bug reports.

Wish I could :) Those glass windows on the sides are atrocious and nonsensical for a combat ship of any kind. The fact they are covering the power plant (i assume) is a massive, MASSIVE, engineering drawback. The way the hull tapers when it reaches the wings heightens the bizarre proportions of the ship and again from an engineering standpoint (why not widen it and make the wingspar section the strongest structural part of the ship instead of the weakest?!). It looks like the hull is wearing a corset cinched tight around it's waist causing the nose section to seem swollen like it's trapped bloodflow. The dorsal bulge had a great opportunity as a bridge section instead of the nose cockpit which seemed more appropriate for a smaller ship. Though the nose section makes for ease of flight, you lose the sense of scale which a dorsal bridge gives you (looking out and seeing the deck stretch out ahead of you). Obviously hull packages could help re-adjust the lines as it does with the Anaconda (thank goodness).

I love the lines of the Cutter and am happy to justify the side "windows" by saying that the Empire sometimes puts form before function (plus, evidence that it was designed to be a pure shield tank). But I would be ecstatic if someday ship customisation reached a point where it was possible to move the bridge up to the dorsal bulge.

Y'know this is a question anyone can answer easily for themselves. Just take a look in the game files and the shipkit folder. For example I can already see that the Anaconda has a Raider kit. The Viper 4 will be getting flag skins and something named "Shockwave".

Every time there's a big update they push a lot of graphics files, that's pretty much the bulk of the DL. E:D isn't bloatware like another space sim I could mention.
